On May 27, 2001, Mick Foley's autobiographical "Foley Is Good" was the number one non-fiction book on the New York Times' best-seller list. Foley's second book picks up where "Mankind: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks" left off, chronicling the events of his career up until publication, but it also contains a surprisingly well-researched indictment of the Parent's Television Council and the reaction of the mainstream press to professional wrestling.

The Death of the WWF

Friday Week 1, May 2002

In August of 2001, an English court ruled that the World Wrestling Federation had broken its long-standing agreement with the World Wide Fund for Nature regarding the use of the "WWF" initials. Despite filing an appeal two months later, the McMahon family eventually gave up the fight and on May 5, 2002, the World Wrestling Federation was rebranded as World Wrestling Entertainment.

 

(For added realism, now is the time to go to Edit Data and rename the WWF to WWE. Change the logo, too, if you've got one.)

Get The F Out

By the end of 2002, the McMahon family had successfully rebranded the former World Wrestling Federation (WWF) as World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). A clever ad campaign, in which viewers were encouraged to "Get The F Out," was the main driving force behind the company's attempt to prevent brand confusion.

Nice ones sp, although I think there should probably be a net change either positive or negative between WWE's rebranding. They lost a lot of money on merch because of it, and although the "get the F out" was clever, I think they took a bigger hit losing their iconic letters.

Its your narrative so your welcome to set it how you like, but for the sake of talking about it i think that the impact of the WWF re-brand into the WWE had atleast inititaly a much greater effect than the one suggested above.

 

Its hard to say what the effect should be set at as we dont have a great breakdown of the actual numbers and related consequences... but i think it would be fair to suggest a greater prestige crash of crash and an unbalanced recovery once the ad campaign's started, while they did lessen the effect of the whole thing i dont think it still took a few years before everyone for the most part stop'd calling them WWF, same with the old WWWF / WWF, and i think alot of old time fans were realy turned off by the words 'entertainment' been added.

And i also did some big ppv events like the Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Survivor Series, etc.

 

Gonna try to plan stuff ahead so i can use these if i can.

You guys both make some good points. I had initially thought about a popularity drop event, but I'm wary of doing anything that could cause an overnight drop in size. The cash drop isn't a bad idea, though. I'll probably try and incorporate that.
