Caninrok
Hi all. So I've been considering trying to do some mod making for 2010 (probably just for personal use, unless it actually comes together well before the next TEW game!) I thought my first step would be to really dig into the default database to try and better understand it from a gameplay and game balance perspective. Well, I just finished my first step and thought I'd share the info in case any actual modders could make use of it. For this basic analysis I singled out the active male wrestlers who have already debuted at the start of the default database. There are 1007 of those. I then took each stat individually to find out the basics: Each stat's highest, lowest and average values. As well as where the top 10%, 25%, 50% (the median stat value) and 75% (or in other words, the top number of the bottom 25%) start. Brawling Highest: 92 Lowest: 2 Average: 42 90th Percentile (Top 10% are at or above): 64 75th Percentile (Top 25% are at or above): 54 Median (Half are better and half are worse): 43 25th %tile praguepride
That's pretty badass. Great job and I hope that mod makers use this when planning their stats. Now you have ranges to work with. It's pretty interesting to note that to be in the top 10% of most skills, you just need stats in the 70's. Not the 80's, not the 90's, but in the 60's and 70's range. Hopefully this will help deflate over-inflated stats and improve the overall quality of all mods.

Caninrok
Wow, even one comment as positive as the above three and I think I'd definitely have kept going. Now, I've got no choice. Especially considering it was pretty easy and just took some time. I'll post more as I put it together for myself. That's pretty badass. Great job and I hope that mod makers use this when planning their stats. Now you have ranges to work with. Hopefully this will help deflate over-inflated stats and improve the overall quality of all mods. That was the first and I think most important thing I noticed as well. I think its a bit of a mind-bender for many people. The stat scale runs from 1-100 so people naturally assume that the top ten percent of workers should have 90s and up. But for most stats that's simply not the way it works.
praguepride
It operates like a bell curve. I doubt it's a perfect one but in a proper bell curve, 50% of the population should fall between 40% and 60% with it degrading exponentially from there
Derek B
In terms of raw data this is a pretty nifty set of stats that should definitely help point out to mod makers how to better balance out their mods. It needs refinement into some better categories to be a truly valuable tool, but it's pretty nifty so far. I'd add things like: Aerial and flashiness for lightweights (and below) Puroresu for people active in Japan only General stats per weight class (what are super heavyweights good at really?) Age related stats (average psychology for 20 year olds vs 35 year olds) Hardcore stats for psychopaths only Stuff like that could be invaluable as a guide in how to better balance a mod. I've always been put off real world mods by seeing overinflated stats that tend to lead to midcarders being able to put on main events. I think TEW2010 will finally be the game that gets real world mods that are balanced perfectly with the game itself and should lead to awesomeness as a result. DaceSenoit
I agree on all points, DerekB. Thanks, Caninrok, this is exactly what I had hoped to do as soon as TEW10 came out. Most MODS I've played have stats that are too high and maxed out, and it seems that the fans demand this, without taking into account that workers will improve just by having matches over time. Any chance we can have an Overness stats breakdown? (another aspect where some modders fail)
Caninrok
Ok, just threw together a quick bit of info. This is basically the same information from my first post but I've averaged the various stat groups that get shown when you are browsing workers: Rumble, Technical, Flying, Entertainment, Performance, Physical, Camera (as these are the men, I've given Camera with and without sex appeal) Rumble Highest: 80 Lowest: 4 90th Percentile (Top 10% are at or above): 51 75th Percentile (Top 25% are at or above): 41 Median (Half are better and half are worse): 30 25th Percentile (The bottom 25% are at or below): 20 Flying Highest: 93 Lowest: 1 90th Percentile (Top 10% are at or above): 67 75th Percentile (Top 25% are at or above): 56 Median (Half are better and half are worse): 33 25th Percentile (The bottom 25% are at or below): 13 Technical Highest: 95 Lowest: 1 90th Percentile (Top 10% are at or above): 62 75th Percentile (Top 25% are at or above): 49 Median (Half are better and half are worse): 31 25th Percentile (The bottom 25% are at or below): 15 Entertainment Highest: 92 Lowest: 0 90th Percentile (Top 10% are at or above): 69 75th Percentile (Top 25% are at or above): 60 Median (Half are better and half are worse): 48 25th Percentile (The bottom 25% are at or below): 36 Physical Highest: 93 Lowest: 17 90th Percentile (Top 10% are at or above): 71 75th Percentile (Top 25% are at or above): 66 Median (Half are better and half are worse): 58 25th Percentile (The bottom 25% are at or below): 51 Performance Highest: 95 Lowest: 19 90th Percentile (Top 10% are at or above): 78 75th Percentile (Top 25% are at or above): 72 Median (Half are better and half are worse): 64 25th Percentile (The bottom 25% are at or below): 55 Camera /w Sex Appeal Highest: 79 Lowest: 3 90th Percentile (Top 10% are at or above): 62 75th Percentile (Top 25% are at or above): 55 Median (Half are better and half are worse): 47 25th Percentile (The bottom 25% are at or below): 39 Camera /wo Sex Appeal Highest: 100 Lowest: 5 90th Percentile (Top 10% are at or above): 73 75th Percentile (Top 25% are at or above): 62 Median (Half are better and half are worse): 52 25th Percentile (The bottom 25% are at or below): 41 In terms of raw data this is a pretty nifty set of stats that should definitely help point out to mod makers how to better balance out their mods. These are great ideas, and since I'm actually enjoying this for some reason, I'll do those all next. If anyone else has somethings they're curious about let me know, I'll see what I can do. I've got plenty of time on my hands for the next week or so. And if it actually helps anyone with a whole lot more time on their hands make some great mods for us to enjoy then then it will definitely have been worth it. praguepride
Also, once you're done with that you can go by style as well. Figure out what makes a brawler vs. psycopath, or a cruiserweight vs. spot monkey. Then modders can be provided with a chart of starting points. "Oh, you want a lightweight, middle aged brawler in North America? Here's some good starting points for their stats."

"Oh, you want a lightweight, middle aged brawler in North America? Here's some good starting points for their stats." You know, technically the games quick add feature does this for people already. But I have a suspicion that actually seeing the breakdown of the default database like this will help modders and, perhaps even more importantly, players to really *get* what a properly balanced approach for gameplay purposes looks like. Of course, there are so many more details in something as complex as TEW than just the worker stats. The game world setup, the number and level of companies, ppv cariers, tv carriers etc. must be pretty important as well when trying to get a good balance. Caninrok
Ok, here's a somewhat random selection of information. Also, was poking around and the overness one will actually require some work. Doesn't seem to be an export/spreadsheet that includes overness for workers. Can be done of course, thanks to the niffty new features of switching to numbers instead of letters (though I play with letters normally) and showing pop instead of skills with a simple click. But if anyone sees something I've missed as to exporting workers popularity to excel please let me know, it'd save time. Now the info: Interesting trivia: There is only one active male giant and there are only 2 active very small male wrestlers at game start. Caninrok
Actually there are two! Bruce The Giant and Marat Khoklov Technically you are right. I should point out that for all these stats so far when I say active wrestler I left out the semi-active wrestlers. I assumed they'd throw things off as they were not likely to stick around long enough in-ring to really affect things too much. Actually looking at it now, there are only 5 semi-active wrestlers at game start so they probably could have been left in without affecting things too much. This is awesome and a sure five stars. A break down for the women would also be appreciated (I assume they weren't integrated for a reason) Yeah, I left out the women because I assume that they will show significant differences and they are usually used against other women. I thought it would give a better view to do the men and women separate. As its been mentioned at least a couple times here (and I intended to include it anyway) I'll try and put them up next. After that I'll probably tackle the overness issue to get that big one out of the way. Any other suggestions? Feel free to add them anyone. Or, feel free to contribute your own findings in this thread. I'm sure mod makers will appreciate any useful information they can get there hands on. Caninrok
Ok, here are the women's stats. These are breakdowns for the already debuted active female wrestlers in the default database. I've done all the analysis for the women here that I've done for the men in my above posts. By virtue of being done second, I already knew what I was doing and so you get all the women info in one place. A note about these statistics. It should be remembered that not all stats are made equal. As noted in the game's help file, some stats are more weighted more than others. Also, I assume certain stats such as business and booking could be inflated somewhat in a mod and not adversely affect gameplay nearly as much (perhaps not at all? There can only be as many bookers and owners as companies after all) as say, inflated brawling stats. Already Debuted, Active Female Wrestlers: 129 There are no semi-active female wrestlers. Caninrok
Ok, here's the big one. Worker Overness. This one was less fun because I had to create it manually - as I said above I couldn't find anyplace to export the workers popularity stats to excel. The skills stuff wasn't so hard because it was just a lot of cut/copy/paste and some basic formulas. Anyway, I've got the base form for active male workers so in future it won't be so bad. Also, there are only a small fraction as many women workers so making that batch will be quick. I don't want to sound like any expert here as I've never made a mod for anything ever, but another issue I realized must be taken into consideration is that the base database and, by extension, the game have been designed to work a certain way and that way may not best reflect the real world. I'm thinking specifically of the fact that Canada has its own viable wrestling scene which is just not true in the real modern wrestling world. It is simply an extension of the USA really and has nothing larger than a small promotion to call its own. In the Cornellverse though it has 2 cult size promotions and they are the 6th and 7th top companies in the world. Also, it should be remembered that the default database has no global company and is a much more competitive industry overall than the real world which has WWE (global!) and pretty much no true competition, yet. My point with all this is that these overness stats reflect a game database designed for play in the world of cornellverse and, while I hope they are useful, would obviously need to be altered if you were trying to fill the WWEs roster with workers who drive a global company. I will eventually look at worker overness by company and company overness to help out in this area as well. Anyway, enough rambling here's the stats for popularity: All Active Male Wrestlers, 1007 USA Highest: 94 Lowest: 0 Average: 14 Top 10% starts at: 46 Top 25% starts at: 22 The
