Why do they expect long match lengths on TV?

Recommended Posts

I get the too short penalty on every single match, even though on TV matches usually do only go 3-15 minutes. Even my 15 minute match was penalized for being too short. Why on earth are they expecting 20 minute matches on TV? That almost never happens in reality.

I also can't seem to figure out how to fix "penalized for holding back slightly"; every single worker on my roster is doing it, and there's nothing telling me why or what to do about it.

Each person on the card is expected to wrestle for a certain amount of time. Main Eventers in USPW have to go atleast ten minutes to not get penalized. I have no idea why your 15 minute match got that penalty.

As far as the holding back thing goes. Its part of their personality. Some workers hold back on t.v and go all out on pay per view. So it just so happens the people you have on your roster are those types of people.

Fans aren't rational. If they want to see a match go for 20 minutes because the wrestlers are popular or talented, then that's what they want, and they don't stop to consider that its a TV match and thus would logically be shorter. Look at the bright side- the bonus you got from having two good wrestlers matching up is greater than the penalty you got for ending the mach before they saw as much as they wanted.

As far as holding back, Adam has said that wrestlers naturally hold back a little on smaller shows, as they save their best for the big events.

I look at it this way - it's not that the game is expecting a 20 minute match, it's that the match would be better if it was longer. This is a method of making sure that longer matches (which would have the opportunity for more of a story, more drama, more spots, etc) have the potential to score higher ratings than shorter matches. Of course, if your workers have poor stamina, then it's a balancing act (you'll get penalized for short matches, but penalized for tired workers... conflicting demands, such is life).

This is just my take on it though.

This is an excellent post that gets the official Derek B Seal Of Approval. :D

The worst part of the Dirt Sheet is everyone trying to fix every little thing... there are some things that can't/shouldn't be fixed, it's just part of the way that things are and always have been. You can't win them all. :)
