Blitzing Strategies not working?

Recommended Posts

Real quick since I'm at work. But I created a league using real teams (the pstats 1.1 by Ice). Chose Akron and went 3-4 defense (as suggested by game) In DEF strategy, under blitzing strategies I chose to blitz FS (who was a blitzing safety anyway) 100% of any blitz called. I simmed through 1st week, checked stats and he had no pressures, checked the blitzing strategies and that 100% dedicated to the FS had changed to distribute it thoughtout the blitzing group. Is there any reason why it doesn't save it even though I made sure to press Save changes twice to make sure?
how do you mean the play is changed? If you use the pull-down then choose a play or click suggest and click call play how does the play differ?
Approximately one of every eight or ten play calls ends up being different than the one I actually choose and call from the pull down menu. I call one certain blitzing scheme and as soon as the offense's play starts, a completely different blitzing scheme appears on the visual representation of the D.

We may have sidetracked here a bit, but my problem is with simming in that blitz strategies don't save or the game changes them randomly. This is the screen where you choose who you want blizting on blitz plays and give them a percentage. I gave my FS 100% of the blitz responsibility and after one week of simmed games when I go back to check it to maybe change it to blitz my ILB I find that the game has defaulted my blitz strategies to what looks like default or suggestion. I.e. My FS is set to 10% while every other position gets a portion of blitz assignments.

I had the wrong play thing too. Then I realized sometimes when you switch to a different formation and the top play is automatically selected, if you click call play and dont actually click on the play first, it will either call the last play you ran or pick a suggested play. So if you are going through formations looking for a particular play and the play is at the top of the formation play. DONT JUST CLICK CALL PLAY. Make sure you actually click the play first then the call play button. At least thats what if was for me. Hoope that helps.

I think this is what I was doing, so this may not be a problem.

Oh well, that didn't work. I made sure I did everything and it still changed gameplan on me after a simmed game. Interestingly enough I don't know if people will complain since I'm guessing most here play their games out? No matter what DEF strategy I choose, it changes after a simmed week.

So basically I set it from the Budget all the way through to scouting.

I am beginning to understand this game a little better, but there are some interesting problems and results. It is not limited to DEF strategies as I've found some things with both OFF and DEF Gameplan and Strategies. The problem is that the sim results differ greatly from the played (but letting CPU call your plays) games. I tested this by specifying only 1 formation to be used on OFF on all phases (in/out run, short/med/long pass). I chose Singleback. I then chose to run 100 % with my RBs on in/out runs and evenly distributed short/med/long passes to all my players. I do the same with my DEF, go 4-6 formation 100% of the time and blitz 1 player 100 percent of the time. When I sim the game the it doesn't look right, nothing seems to have come from the result of my gameplan. However when I play the game and let the CPU play it (I choose super fast so I can get reults quickly) the game goes almost 100% with my gameplan, the singleback is called on every offensive play and the 46 is called on every defensive play. I absolutely thrashed the other team just running those 2 plays, even though their QB had a field day going 300+ yards on only 13 passes or something. Is this going to be the case in the final game? I guess it will be considering the simmed games are over and done with in 2 seconds per game (on my PC that is) while the played games take about 1 minute, hard to think that the sim and play engine are the same. I did this as the selling point for me was gameplan execution, which I had lots of problems with in TPF and seem to be having with BBCF demo.

The engine's are exactly the same - it would be way too much work to make two completely different engines anyway ;). I'm thinking there may be a problem with the AI using your strategies in certain cases. Did you make sure to select the "use formation strategies" toggle and not the "use offensive playbook"? Also, make sure that your %s for players/coverage actually are plausible with your formations. IE, the game will be forced to override if you select 5-2 and blitz your WLB 100%.
The engine's are exactly the same - it would be way too much work to make two completely different engines anyway ;)
I figured as much, just weird that it would follow my gameplan, and especially since the results are different.
I'm thinking there may be a problem with the AI using your strategies in certain cases. Did you make sure to select the "use formation strategies" toggle and not the "use offensive playbook"?
Definitely, I haven't even touched "use offensive playbook" as it wouldn't let me save changes. Keeps rejecting the save saying "please set the total play percent for the displayed type to 100% before saving" - which I have. I've tried setting each type to 100 and 20 (*5 types=100) and still get the same message.
Also, make sure that your %s for players/coverage actually are plausible with your formations. It isn't just retricted to DEF of course as it also happens on OFF. I will set up my gameplan and strategies and save before a game then I will run a sim, then reload and play it out (letting AI run my gameplan) then post the PBP file for each game here. I will list in my next post what OFF formations I use and also DEF and basically a general overview of my gameplan.

WARNING - very long as I've found other issues while testing In OFF strategies I've chosen to use 2 plays, both 50/50 on all types (i.e. in/out run, etc). I Form is showing blue, so one of me strength formations. Also running Quads, showing red, a weak formation for my team. I've set running strategies for 100% carries to my RB(s) on both IN and OUT run. I've set all four passing targets (for passing strategies) at 25% each on Short, Med and Long passes. For DEF I chose to go with 4-3 (weakness) to target all plays. My strength is the 3-4. Choosing to go 50/50 for blitzing one and two players on normal, run and pass. Went 50/50 on my FS and SS, since all plays in the 4-3 have double safeties this should eliminate you suggestion of the game overiding my set strategy. After simming the game and looking at the logs I've discovered that the game does run with my gameplan, not 100% but close. Here is the sim result (see attachment "Sim PBP" & "Sim Gamelog") Sorry, just realised I can only hyperlink these files and I don't know how to upload anywhere to hyperlink from. The only thing that stood out for me was that it ran some OFF formations that I didn't specify, like pro set, singleback...but those were far and between. Also, the one that stood out the most was the thrashing I gave them considering the defense I went with, yes I know it is Hawaii but my PITT team isn't any better. For those not interested in looking through the PBPs here is a break down of the games. Offense Of the 50 plays (not including punts, field goals) the following formations were used (with number of times used in parenthesis) I Form (28) Quads (15) Singleback (3) Pro Set (3) Note that I chose IR (Inside running) gameplan, hence more running plays out of the I Form. What is interesting in the first game (simmed) is the stats in the gamelog .vs the PBP log. Gamelog shows my 1st string RB had 34 carries for 204 yards, PBP however only shows 15 carries for 130 yards. Also interesting that gamelog shows my QB had 16/26 for 244 yards passing, 4 TDs and 1 INT and zero sacks. PBP lists 18/28 for 253 yards, but 2 of those passes were penalties on OFF with DEF accepting them, both penalties total 15 yards while the plays totalled 9 yards. So, 253 - 9 = 244 yards...NO problems here. PBP also shows he had 1 run for -4 yards, which should have been a sack, at least I would interpret it as a sack. There was no penalty following that play so I'm confused. Here is the play: Pittsburgh ball, Q2, 2-9-PITT27 (14:33) 14-0 QB E. Kimrin runs right end for -4 yards (OLB H. Shultz). A very weird sequence of play occured during this game, here is a copy and paste from the PBP. Pittsburgh ball, Q1, 1-4-HAW4 (12:11) 0-0 RB D. Garcia runs right guard for 4 yards ****Touchdown!***** Pittsburgh ball, Q1, 1-0-HAW0 (11:44) 6-0 Shad Cloman converts the PAT. Pittsburgh ball, Q1, 1-10-PITT35 (11:44) 7-0 Shad Cloman kicks 66 from Pittsburgh 35 to Hawaii -1. Riall Bleier to Hawaii 13 for a 14 yard return. The Defense will accept the penalty. It is now Second and 14 at the Hawaii 9. <<- what penalty occured? Pittsburgh ball, Q1, 1-10-HAW12 (10:33) 7-0 woah, wait a minute it was Hawaii's ball... RB D. Garcia runs left guard for 12 yards ****Touchdown!***** Pittsburgh ball, Q1, 1-0-HAW0 (10:02) 13-0 Shad Cloman converts the PAT. And another one Hawaii ball, Q1, 4-9-PITT43 (00:59) 0-14 Eppie Lee Punts 30 yards to the Pittsburgh 13 yard line, where it goes out of bounds. The Defense will accept the penalty. It is now Second and 7 at the Pittsburgh 16. <<- again, what penalty are we accepting Pittsburgh ball, Q1, 2-7-PITT16 (00:18) 14-0 <<- 2nd and 16? sounds like an OFF play is missing, a 1st and 10 play that resulted in a 3 yard gain, hence the 2nd and 7 RB D. Garcia runs right end for 10 yards (DE M. Betts, CB N. McDaniel). Looks like there are some missing lines of plays, also noticed that penalties seem to cause the most errors in the PBP, see below log from same game. Hawaii ball, Q3, 3-1-HAW47 (02:52) 0-42 QB M. Haddad completes a 49 yard hook to WR H. Schlesinger (OLB D. Arth, OLB D. Naponic). False Start against OT Chon Saimes on Hawaii. The Penalty is for 5 yards. The Defense will accept the penalty. It is now First and Goal at the Pittsburgh 9.<<- wait a minute, hello refs...we accept the penalty...hello Anyways moving on, as I was looking through the played results I realised that the PBP is missing a lot of plays, there is some missing time off the game clock or a team would receive a punt and immeditely punt it back, but it would show a 4th down. These are all probably known issues, which is why I haven't created a new thread.
