The Fall: Extended Edition

Recommended Posts

...March 2001...

At the height of their popularity, with their former enemy WCW vanquished and purchased, the WWF is riding high. It is undoubtably the most powerful promotion in the history of professional wrestling. But questions are being asked about the WCW sale. The U.S Securities and Exchange Commission begins a month-long investigation.

...April 2001...

The wrestling world is in shock. The World Wrestling Federation is hit with a three-hundred million dollar fine, after it was revealed that Vince McMahon and AOL-Time Warner executive Jamie Kellner colluded to intentionally lower the purchase price of WCW. Stockholders and investors deserted the WWF, leaving the McMahon family with a humbled empire almost overnight. Disgraced, distraught and heartbroken, with a roster of wrestlers angry at the McMahon's mismanagement, the WWF was effectively shut down. Live events were cancelled, and television contracts were torn up. The McMahons go into isolation.

In the months that follow, promotions across the United States shut down left, right and centre. Without the support of the WWF, OVW, HWA and MCW close shop. After the loss of millions of casual fans, promotions such as JAPW, APW and UPW can't support themselves. Even promotions with a more hardcore following, such as XPW and CZW close down. Some owners say they'll be back when the industry bounces back. Others leave for good.

It is now January 2002.

The effects of The Fall are still ongoing, but there is cause for optimism. The National Wrestling Alliance, once facing extinction, has re-amalgamated under the leadership of Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes. WWF loyalists Steve Austin, The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels join the returned Shane McMahon to form Fusion Pro Wrestling. And on the west coast, Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan use their connections to form the American Wrestling Federation.

This new 'Big Three' is joined by independent federations across the country, and two exciting new touring promotions. In Canada, a rejuvenated Stampede takes the country by storm. The wrestling industry has definitely bounced back from its perilous lows, but for how long?

Can you guide your promotion through the wreckage of The Fall?

Or will the professional wrestling industry collapse for good?

Just had a sim through the first few weeks. There's obviously a few quick ones to fix - if you run through to the second day you'll see the AI is firing people from a few feds straight away, so you may as well cut them from the feds before the game starts (except Rudy Boy Gonzalez being fired from Lone Star, he should be there).

Worker popularity definitely needs to be dropped significantly, this was a mistake I corrected in my later mods. I don't subscribe to the 'this database must exactly mirror Cornellverse for it to be good' idea, but in 2001 the only workers with 90ish USA overness are Austin, The Rock, Hogan and Goldberg. I'd put Flair (in the NWA regions) and Triple H just under that.

The 80-90 overness bracket is way too populated too, I can definitely see low-mid 80's for some of these guys (Savage, Piper, Sting, Steiner), but guys like Shamrock, Hardys, Eddy, Jarrett, Rey Jr should be about 10 points lower. And what's Batista doing there? :)

They're probably the main things to look at. And sex appeal for the guys too, it's based off the old 'Looks' attribute so The Great Khali is at 90.

Batista sneaked in because I imported extra workers from Jimmy_Shakerz Know Your Role mod and there were a load of doubles due to the same character being entered under a different name. I deleted most of them, but good ol' Batista snuck through.

I probably need to lower stats and popularity for workers yet to enter the game world, come to think about it. How much do you reckon I should reduce the m by?

The rest of the issues that you pointed out I'll get to work on straight away. Thanks for the input.

Loving the mod, quite funny playing it on the demo with it starting in 2010. Got all excited about pushing Mr Perfect (as he was still alive) then he dropped dead of an overdose on the day he was due to take the AWF IC Title off The Giant :(

As I say, loving it tho, cant wait till I can afford to get the full version.

Just one thing: The mediafire links are labeled the wrong way round in the first post. Not important like, just thought I'd say ;)

It seems that all of the ages are current day ages, not 2002 ages (ex. Al Snow is 45, Undertaker is 44, HBK is 44, etc). Also, like someone else said, there are a lot of present-day guys that managed to slip in (Sydal, Striker, Abyss, Amazing Kong, Ricky Ortiz, Santino, Manu, etc)

You sure you're not playing it on the demo? All the ages are correct on my database, but if you've only got the demo then you can only play it for one month in January 2010 - which would explain the ages.

  • 2 weeks later...
  • 5 months later...

I kinda wanna cry now. I've been editing a game for myself of The Fall, because it was pretty much the bestest mod ever and After The Fall just made it ten times better.

Oh well guess I download this one now instead! :) Might keep working on my own to compare the two and see how I did. :p
