so MAW is set to 80% matches angles. my first show, every angle bombed, giving me the impression i shouldnt have run them. but i have to. so any adivce on the types of angles to run ect? or should i just change product to allow matches only?

MAW is new for me, i usually play one of the bigger feds.

What did the message say?

IIRC with 90/10 match/angle ratio you need to have your guys to be quite popular for the angles to succeed, I think it was D+ pop or something in order for them. But you are using 80/20 so there shouldn't be that problem. I'm guessing that MAW doesn't have that many entertaining guys in the roster, you should atleast avoid any overness based angles unless Rip Chord is involved.

This.

With angles in a company like MAW, you shouldn't have too many, they should revolve around your top guys (lots of Rip Chord!), and should probably never, or rarely, have a guy rated on his overness. Have entertaining guys cut promos, menacing guys look menacing, and stick to that.

I havne't played MAW in 10 yet but in 08 I basically used Rip Chord as an authority figure and used him at least twice per show, instead of one worker taunting another, I had him do it in front of the other in Rip Chords office, or another good way is to have Rip Chord to start the show and announce the main event (make sure to do them on screen so they get the pop bonus)

Remember to write some new angles that fit your promotion and workers skills ;)

The only bad thing in the Rip Chord -scenario is that he's too popular compared to the workers. He starts with B popularity all over US. Here's few examples of what I mean:

1.) Beatup backstage, 2 persons, both rated on overness. You'd need a guy that has C to B- pop in order to not look bad (due to the angle being rated on overness) next to Rip who's at B pop.

2.) Promo where Rip Chord is the subject and rated on overness; You would need a entertaining guy to pull it off, preferably C to B- in entertainment category. If the guy who's doing the promo and is rated via entertainment, you need to have good skills to compare with Rip's overness.

3.) Menacing angles: Same thing but the Menace stat should be somewhere near C to B- to pull it off properly, otherwise the worker will look bad.

All in all: If a guy on the roster can actually pull of an angle with Rip Chord in it, go for it. Otherwise don't as it will have some very serious negative effects as Rip will just out-shine them with his B overness. In the MAW roster there are 5 guys C+ to B- in entertainment so put them in a promo where they are rated by entertainment and Rip Chord is rated by overness (Or use anyone you like but Chord's popularity is a thing that you should really drain out).

Findlay O'Faraday and American Patriot can also pull of succesfull Menace -rated angles :)

Here's my MAW test show results:

Rip Chord is in the ring. Out of nowhere, Findlay O'Farraday hits the ring and attacks. The assault is quick and brutal, and leaves Rip completely destroyed. C-

(Menace - Overness)

In a match that had an average crowd reaction but featured terrible wrestling, Findlay O'Farraday defeated Ricky Douglas in 6:19 by pinfall with an Atomic Spinebuster. E

(Domination)

In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Generation X defeated Ace Youngblood and Citizen X in 11:37 when Jay Chord defeated Ace Youngblood by pinfall with a Generation Gap. D-

Generation X cut a backstage promo. E-

The segment wasn't very good to begin with, and this crowd really turned against it. This segment brought the crowd's mood down.

In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, American Patriot defeated Mean Jean Cattley in 17:45 by pinfall with an Inverted Piledriver. American Patriot makes defence number 1 of his Mid Atlantic Championship title. D

(keep strong)

Rip Chord is in the ring. Out of nowhere, American Patriot hits the ring and attacks. The assault is quick and brutal, and leaves Rip completely destroyed. D

The segment wasn't very good to begin with, and this crowd really turned against it.

Overall grade: D. Rip Chord was used too much, increased popularity.

Notes: So it seems that the tolerance level is actually even higher than what I had imagined: Faraday's attack (Menace: B) was okay but American Patriot's attack scored a disappointing D (Menace: B-). The promo totally bombed and I perhaps know the reason why: With this procuct setting any angle that hasn't a single person rated by Overness will be frowned upon. So all-entertainment angles simply won't work, you always need to have one worker to be rated via Overness. Faraday gained 2.5% overness while American Patriot got 3.0%.

My interpretation of MAW is that it's old school to the extreme, so think about how territory system promos went. You didn't really have skits and love triangles and all this other sports entertainment stuff, it was mostly either the announcers hyping up a match or an interview/press conference.

MAW: Bad can still be good

Remember, this a small fed so a show that would be horrible for SWF isn't all that bad for MAW. I had a D- show that increased their popularity while that same rating would kill the bigger companies.

In real life a promotion this small would take years if at all to achieve the next level. I personally know the people who work for and run the current Mid-Atlantic titled promotion in my area. The larger of the two took 8 years just to be considered the top indy promotion in the "Piedmont Triad Area" of North Carolina (not even the whole state) and they have actually changed names 3 times during that span.

The way they "got over" was when they switched to the Mid-Atlantic name they brought in "Mid-Atlantic Legends" like Johnny Weaver, Nelson Royal, Don Kernoodle and others as personalities and/or a rare match.

It also helps that the owner was trained and worked for OMEGA in the '90's. Omega was opened and operated by Matt & Jeff Hardy pre-WWE full-time run. Also, in addition to the Hardy's, he is personal friends with Hurricane Helms and Shannon Moore and all four have been known to "pop in" from time to time while having time-off.

It's a long process in the game too but it can benefit by doing what others on here have said (by using Rip Chord). If you can get anyone else who has a high popularity in the area then you can keep from over using Rip Chord (not sure if him being over used is possible, yet).

And as you expand from this area hire workers who have exposure in the area you're targeting. I created smaller tv companies to aid in exposure for smaller promotions. I did this to represent local tv stations while the existing companies I would assume represent cable networks. And since there was an abundance of U.S. tv stations I transformed one into a global company (after all, WWE is shown in more countries then most other forms of American entertainment, american football is a good example, and isn't affected by "language barriers" when they're on tour).
