This is indeed a June 2000 scenario, but I began the game two years ago in January 1998. Most of the data before September 1998 is lost so as a result I will go as far as then. I’ll post a timeline to help get you to where we are now. Before September 1998: WCW’s roster is greatly changed with the release of many undercard workers Owen Hart in one of the biggest bidding wars ever, signs with WCW Eddy Guerrero is released due to drug problems Sean Waltman is released Kurt Angle is signed Shocker is signed Super Crazy is signed October 1998: Edge, Christian Cage, Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy join WCW with Developmental deals. November 1998: Diamond Dallas Page wins the World War III battle royal match and earns a WCW Title shot at Starrcade. December 1998: Diamond Dallas Page defeats Hulk Hogan to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. January 1999: Rick Rude returns to in ring action and has a series of matches with friend Curt Hennig. After the match up Hennig attacks Rude, turning the feud into more than just a comeback match. Hollywood Hulk Hogan is released after losing a match to the Giant in a Loser Leaves WCW match. Lex Luger is released. February 1999: Bret Hart turns Heel. WCW purchases ECW from Paul Heyman for $5.4 million. The Giant is released. Bill Goldberg is released. March 1999: ECW invades WCW Kurt Angle is released Chris Candido, Justin Credible, Lance Storm, and Rob Van Dam sign with the WWF. Randy Savage is released Ric Flair wrestles Paul Heyman. WCW Saturday Night and WCW Thunder are cancelled April 1999: Animal and Hawk def. D-Von and Buh Buh Ray Dudley to win the ECW Tag Team Titles Juventud Guerrera loses his mask to Jerry Lynn. May 1999: Chris Jericho wins the WCW World Heavyweight Championship from DDP in a Triple Threat match which also included Owen Hart The Slamboree card included many interpromotional matches such as Shane Douglas vs. Sting, LOD vs. the Dudleys and Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Jerry Lynn. June 1999: Perry Saturn and Alex Wright are released. July 1999: Chris Jericho successfully defends his WCW Title against Chris Benoit in a Ladder Match. Roddy Piper ‘s contract quietly expires. August 1999: Sting ends his feud with Shane Douglas, defeating him in a steel cage match. September 1999: Sting defeated Chris Jericho , ending his nearly six month reign. WCW Nitro ends its run on TNT. Tony Schiavone leaves WCW. October 1999: WCW Nitro begins on TNN. WCW Thunder returns on TNN. Owen Hart defeated Sting, Chris Jericho, and Booker T in a 4 Way Elimination Match to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. November 1999: : Taz wins the ECW Championship from the Great Muta ending their nine month on and off again feud. Booker T wins the WCW World War III Battle Royal battle royal match and earns a WCW Title shot at Starrcade December 1999: Paul Levesque joins the WCW in yet another heavy bidding war against the WWF. Ric Flair wins his retirement match against Sting. Due to him having a World Heavyweight Championship match back in November, Booker T cannot challenge for the World Title until Mayhem. Regardless he defeats Owen Hart in a non-title match at Starrcade ’99. January 2000: WCW and ECW are separated into two companies once again. All PPVs are reffered to as a WCW/ECW production from this point forward. ECW Hardcore TV returns on UPN. Dean Malenko joins ECW. Booker T defeats Owen Hart for the second straight PPV, this time he won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. February 2000: Shawn Michaels unretires and returned to active competition. Rhino debuts in WCW. March 2000: Rey Misterio Jr. loses to Bret Hart at the third straight PPV in a respect match. Hart accepts to shake Misterio’s hand. April 2000: Taz ends his feud with Steve Corino, defeating him and retaining his ECW World Title in a Loser Leaves ECW match. Sting pins Paul Levesque to win the WCW World Heavyweight Title, Booker T, the reigning champion was not pinned. Booker and Levesque start a feud. May 2000: Curt Hennig finally wins the big one. Hennig defeated Sting to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Taz defeated Rick Rude and Scott Steiner in a Three Way to retain the ECW Title. This was the ME of Hardcore Heaven the PPV formerly known as Slamboree. Kurt Angle returns to WCW. Has a decent push but I’d like to see him with the U.S strap. Dreamer is a dude that just appears and disappears from tv and no one cares or really is upset. I’m not too big on Dreamer but I did enjoy his stuff with Raven. This was an average brawl. Rhino dominated a majority of the match and won with his spear. I see Bam Bam as a Midcarder, maybe a guy that should flirt with the ME but probably nothing more. Benoit is a guy I’m surprised hasn’t had the WCW Title yet. He’s had chances and we’ve been teased but hey at least he’s not stuck in the Midcard anymore and neither is his buddy Chris Jericho. Benoit did a pretty good job selling in this match and may have oversold a bit, but BBB is a big guy so I bet his punches should require more selling. But that’s because I still not used to Rey getting flat out squashed like he did two or three years ago. That just doesn’t happen anymore and I think it’s a good thing. These guys had a match that certainly was watchable but much like the match that preceded them it was a forgettable affair. That’s not a bad thing. Much like The Rudos’ turn. WCW took two guys who were sitting in the Cruisers’ collecting dust due to their inactivity and bam! They’re in what looks like to be a chance of a program with the Tag Champs? Sounds awesome. And this match was just that, the crowd could have been in it more but that’s nit picking. Shane Douglas. http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae314/Brees_Sharper/ShaneDouglas.jpg I can’t figure out WCW’s plan with Sabu. Is he a singles? Or a tag wrestler? Either way it’s good to see Sabu wrestling even if most of the time he is without the benefit of weapons. Shane Douglas is another guy I really like. But he hasn’t been in a real major program since the ECW invasion pretty much. Scratch that he had a huge feud with Sting last year. Back to the match, though. Douglas tried to keep Sabu grounded. Guess what happened? It didn’t work! He beat Shane with an all out aerial assault. Maybe not all out, but he did launch himself several times. Booker T. http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae314/Brees_Sharper/BookerT.jpg It’s kind of odd seeing this match especially considering we’ve seen it on PPV a couple times already. Levesque has been given some chances since his departure from the Fed. at the WCW Title but hasn’t gotten any shots since last year. He’s just one of those guys you kinda forget about and the same could be said for Booker. But they have been in the ME scene just flirting with the World Title. The dirty finish was expected but the length of the match was not. It went about 10 minutes and I think could have went another five. But it looks like they want to save the primo match for GAB. Sting. http://i983.photobucket.com/albums/ae314/Brees_Sharper/Sting7.jpg(Non-title) Unless another guy like Scott Hall or maybe DDP is added to the feud it looks like we have our World Title match for GAB. It would probably be better if Hall or Page were left out of this match. A Three Way or a Four Way always seems like an awkward match. A Three Way more than a Four. This was the longest match of the night at about 16 minutes maybe a little less, maybe a little more. I don’t really keep track of the time. But it really flowed nicely and the timing was spot on. The crowd was hot, this was a great match. I gotta go with this match over Levesque and Booker. I liked both of the finishes though, to keep the babyfaces strong with the dirty tricks.
