"Why do I want to be a wrestler? Because it is the only thing I can do and still live with myself." - Ian Butler

Background

Chapter One - The 20/20 Report

Mid March

  • ABC begins airing promos to promoting a special primetime edition of 20/20, the subject is Pro Wrestling. It is scheduled to be aired the week of WrestleMania

Late March

  • After much conjecture and worrying by the pro wrestling business and fans alike the special report is aired.
  • The report was widely lauded for it's even handed reporting and the honesty portrayed by the wrestlers, the show was an instant success. And was seen as an honest view into the wrestling business.
  • For the first time on the national stage the society surrounding wrestling was exposed to the American public, and surprisingly they liked it. For many years Wrestling was seen as an oddball form of entertainment a niche that is primarily for the young and the sociopathic.
  • The center peice of the show was the amazingly candid interview of then 21 year-old Ian Butler. Ian was simply a small time independent worker who was attending a wrestling school to work on his skills. Ian's interview made national news vaulting Ian onto the national stage. His now famous "Why I Wanna Be A Wrestler" speech was a window into the soul of the pro wrestler, and the pro wrestling fan.

Chapter Two - Don't Try This At Home

Mid April

  • ABC announces that a new pro wrestling based reality show called "Don't Try This At Home"
  • WWE and TNA confirm that they are not involved with the production.
  • Former WWE superstars Tommy Dreamer, Rob Van Dam, Lance Storm sign on to be trainers on the show.
  • Former TNA cast members Homicide and Melissa (known as Alyssa Flash) also join as trainers.
  • Ian Butler is the first name announced to be on the show.

Early May

  • Don't Try This At Home debuts to average ratings on ABC. The show is as well recieved by critics as a reality show could be. The show's originality in displaying what it takes to be a professional wrestler was well-recieved by the wrestling community.

Mid June

  • Trainee Dylan Riley seems to intentionally attempt to injure Jean-Paul DuBois during a match. A brawl ensues involving the male participants, Ian Butler gets a clean hit in on Dylan.

Mid July

  • After much time spent with their particular teams facing each other Rob Van Dam's trainees are eliminated in favor of Homicide's trainees. RVD does not take the slight, lightly, as both men almost come to blows on camera.

Late July

  • With Don't Try This At Home reaching it's finale it is leaked by Ian Butler on the show that he has been contacted by both the WWE and TNA, he states that he will announce who he will sign with during the finale.

Don't Try This At Home Finale

  • A special tag team match is held pitting the four winners Team Lance Storm: Jean-Paul DuBois and Ian Butler against Team Homicide: Dylan Riely and Miguel Felipe
  • Also aired was a match between the two female winners Sasha Fox and Alicia Summers, whom were both trained by Melissa.
  • After The Match Tommy Dreamer announces with a sly smile that this will not be the last time we see these guys wrestling.
  • Ian Butler grabs the microphone and announces that he has signed a pro wrestling contract, his trainee mates have signed contracts as well and they will be working together, for a new pro wrestling organization.

Chapter Three - Enter WrestleFest

Early August

  • After the shocking announcement of a new promotion on the national scene was made the question remained if there would be on television, who exactly would own the promotion, and even what the name was!
  • Rob Van Dam announces via his website that the promotion will be called WrestleFest and is a joint venture between Tommy Dreamer, Lance Storm, and an unnamed investor.
  • Mid August
  • WrestleFest's website launches, it's family friendly product is very apparent from it's tone and design.
  • Tommy Dreamer in an interview confirms that WrestleFest will in fact be aired nationally on ESPN2 on Wednesday Nights. However, no Pay-Per-Views are planned.
  • The card for WrestleFest's first show is released in preparation for a September launch.

Special Feature - Meet The Winners of 'Don't Try This At Home'

Ian Butler

Where Are You From?

I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the summer of 1989. That's about all you need to know.

Where Did You First Come In Contact With Pro Wrestling?

The first memory I have of pro wrestling was the old ECW intro. I had no idea what it was, but I knew it was something fun. I saw guys jumping off of ropes onto other guys, hitting each other with chairs, it appealed to me. My brother and I would sneak downstairs every saturday night and watch it while mimicking the moves. From that point on I was just absolutely in love with wrestling. I was lucky enough to witness the Monday Night Wars, and since my dad had an illegal cable box we got all the Pay-Per-Views for free. It was a happy childhood.

What's Your Favorite Wrestling Moment?

This may sound a bit hackey but my favorite moment was Bash At The Beach '96 when Hogan turned. I was a total mark at the time and I'll admit it, I cried. But when I look back at it, it was just an absolute stroke of genius by all of the parties involved. It was the greatest turn in wrestling history. It will forever be imitated but never ever duplicated.

Who Is Your Favorite Wrestler?

Mick Foley without a doubt. He would do anything for the fans, and he always put his heart behind every word he said and every move he performed in the ring.

What Do You Say To People Who Think You Don't Deserve To Be Where You Are In The Business Today?

I agree with them. But I will say this, I promise that I will not disappoint, and one day I will prove to everyone that I am worthy to be where I am today. I'm monumentally lucky, I'm lucky that ABC showed up, I'm lucky that Don't Try This At Home happened, I'm lucky that WrestleFest came into existence, and that I've made fast friends with many of the guys here. My trainer, and now boss, Lance Storm and my other boss Tommy Dreamer. I've got another boss but, you'll just have to wait for that one.

Jean-Paul DuBois

Where Are You From?

I was born in Montréal, Quebec, and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1987.

Where Did You First Come In Contact With Pro Wrestling?

My first contact with wrestling was actually watching my older brothers fake wrestle in the living room when I was really young, I mean really young. I never really became a wrestling fan until I was around 8. Now please don't laugh at me for this one, but the match that made me fall in love with wrestling was Duke "The Dumpster" Droese vs. Steve Dunn on Monday Night Raw some time in 1995. I don't know why, but something about that match captured my imagination and to this day I have no idea what it was.

What's Your Favorite Wrestling Moment?

Chris Benoit winning at WrestleMania XX, sue me.

Who Is Your Favorite Wrestler?

Owen Hart was always my favorite wrestler. He was so much better than Brett, and I'll never forgive Vince for making him do that idiotic entrance that cost him his life.

What Do You Say To People Who Think You Don't Deserve To Be Where You Are In The Business Today?

I'd tell them that if they worked as hard as we have, and got the breaks we got, they would be just as happy as we are. I understand the idea of paying dues, but I'll never get mad at someone who through sheer luck of the draw gets an opportunity that they had prayed for. I got the opportunity, and I still had to prove myself to my trainers, and my teammates. So the best way I can put it is this: just watch me.

Dylan Riley

Where Are You From?

I shot out of my mother's womb in the back of a car in a WaWa parking lot in Camden, New Jersey some time '86.

Where Did You First Come In Contact With Pro Wrestling?

I was a big time ECW fan, never really followed WCW or WWF. Me and my boys from home started our own backyard fed before it became cool. We made a ring out of four old mattresses, plywood, duct tape, busted PVC piping, and rope we stole from construction sites.

What's Your Favorite Wrestling Moment?

When I won the Henry St. Heavyweight Title from my best friend Josh. I won it after legit breaking three fingers after a botched DDT...don't ask.

Who Is Your Favorite Wrestler?

I haven't found one yet to be honest. You'd think I'd say myself or something right? I'm not a douche, I'm just ass.

What Do You Say To People Who Think You Don't Deserve To Be Where You Are In The Business Today?

Well I'm a man of few words. So I'll just say this: [expletive deleted] them.

Alica Summers

Where Are You From?

I was born in Los Angeles, California in 198?.

Where Did You First Come In Contact With Pro Wrestling?

I grew up in the 90s in a home with four older brothers, it was kinda hard to avoid. I remember my parents forcing me to watch WCW because they thought WWF was too 'edgy' for me. I also remember my brothers taking me to an XPW event for my 16th birthday, it wasn't that much fun, but it was certainly an adventure. After missing the whole Attitude Era and never knowing what Hardcore wrestling really was, that was a bit of a shock to the system.

What's Your Favorite Wrestling Moment?

Any time Trish Stratus entered the ring, I can tell you right now she's the reason I'm a wrestler today. Watching the evolution of her skills and being so damn hot, I knew that I could do it. Of course with a smaller bust size.

Who Is Your Favorite Wrestler?

Trish, obviously! I suppose my other favorite wrestler is AJ Styles, if he wasn't married...

What Do You Say To People Who Think You Don't Deserve To Be Where You Are In The Business Today?

Well I know I'm lucky, but I'm not going to waste the chance of a lifetime that's being handed to me. Making it is about grasping even the thinnest string of chance and hoping that following it will lead you to the beautiful tapestry of success.

Sasha Fox

Where Are You From?

Velva, North Dakota.

Really?

Yes, really.

Where Did You First Come In Contact With Pro Wrestling?

In my teens actually, my family and I were on vacation in Buffalo...

Really?

Yes, really. We were visiting my 2nd cousin, but as I later found out it was actually my parents on the run from the State Authorities. Something about multiple armed robberies, I never really asked them about it. Where was I? Oh yeah so we were in Buffalo, and the local radio station that was just randomly on in our rental car and the DJ asked a question, to win free tickets to see a wrestling show that night. I still remember the question: 'What year was the Spanish Armada?' Random question, right? Well even more randomer my father knew the answer immediately and pulled over to call the radio station on a pay phone. He got on the air, screamed "FIFTEEN EIGHTY-EIGHT!" and the rest is history.

What's Your Favorite Wrestling Moment?

Watching my father bumble around in his pants for a quarter, I never really understood why he wanted to win those tickets so badly, and more shockingly why he didn't scalp them. But of all the moments in my wrestling fandom, that is my favorite as it was the moment that started it all.

Who Is Your Favorite Wrestler?

Hmm. I'm going to go with Bam Bam Bigelow, that flaming tattooed head, that flaming leotard, Greetings From Asbury Park, he was the best. I guess second I'd put Hacksaw Jim Duggan HI-OH!!!

What Do You Say To People Who Think You Don't Deserve To Be Where You Are In The Business Today?

Now, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum, what might be right for you, may not be right for some. A man is born, he's a man of means. Then along come two, they got nothing but their jeans. But they got, Diff'rent Strokes. It takes, Diff'rent Strokes. It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.

Pre-Show

KENTA VS Andy Sumner

Andy Sumner was completely outclassed by KENTA in this match up. KENTA's arrival was seen as a surprise as it was his first match back in the States after tearing his ACL. KENTA's appearance got a good sized pop from the fans who knew who he was. KENTA controlled the action from the get go and finished Sumner off with a shattering Busaiku Knee Kick.

Main Show

The Show begins with a fantastic pyrotechnic display which started at the top of the arena and slowly making it's way to the entry way and down towards the ring where there is a crescendo worthy of the Fourth of July.

Richie Stamboa: Ladies and gentlemen! Boys and girls of all ages! Welcome to WrestleFest! I'm Richie Stamboa, a name you'll come to know and love. Seated next to me is a name you already know and love, my partner in crime, Al Snow!

Al Snow: Thank you, it's great to be behind the microphone again, and to be beside such a great talent in you Richie.

Richie Stamboa: The honor is all mine, Leif.

Al Snow: Aw man, already?

Richie Stamboa: It's all in good fun. We have a very exciting, very historic night ahead of us. And how better to start the night than with the heart and soul of WrestleFest Worldwide, our boss Tommy Dreamer who will be heading to the ring any second now.

Al Snow: I've known Tommy for a long, long time. And ya know I never thought in a million I'd be calling Tommy "boss" but now that I do...it kinda feels good. It's better than some other bosses I've had!

The crowd roars as Tommy Dreamer walks through the entry way and makes his way to the ring. Tommy Dreamer, the first man to enter the WFW ring strikes the Jesus Christ Pose to the cheers of the fans. The fans show their appreciation with the chant: THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! raining down from the rafters.

Tommy Dreamer: No. Thank YOU! It's been a roller coaster couple of months trying to get this up and running, but we're here. We're here to stay. Now I may have money invested in this pro wrestling experiment known as WrestleFest, but I couldn't do it on my own. A few weeks ago, I didn't know if this was going happen, if this was real. But I got a boost from a man I didn't know very well, but I can now call him my friend. There's been much speculation as to who this particular guy is. But I'm gonna tell you now, that he means business, and you don't wanna push his buttons. I'm not gonna tell you who it is, because really you only need to hear this:

<embed src="

type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>

The music hits and the crowd goes wild. They know who it is!

Rowdy Roddy Piper makes his way to the ring with a giant grin from ear to ear.

Rowdy Roddy Piper: That's right! I'm the guy! I had to get a peice of the action. I saw what Tommy was trying to do, and I knew he would need some help. Tommy don't have the time to deal with all the crap these guys shovel around, so I thought: why not? Why not help him out? Why not get some power in my hands. The thing about me, is that I love it when crap is shoveled my way. I love it when guys come to me crying and whining about how someone's not being fair to em. Why? Because there's no better feeling in the world than having that ultimate bargaining chip, to be the decision maker. Now I spent 20 years in the ring, and I didn't always follow the rules. I know all the tricks, I know all the stories. I'm here to make sure that this ship sails, and to keep those egotistical bastards from making this ship capsize. So I have a message for you guys in the back: You're not going to get one over on Roddy Piper.

Richie Stamboa: Welcome back to WrestleFest! We have just learned the identity of the other owner of WrestleFest Worldwide, and all I gotta say is wow. Rowdy Roddy Piper is in WFW.

Al Snow: And he doesn't look like he's going to be taking any crap! I can't think of a much better guy to be the Director of Authority than Hot Rod. Because like like he said before the break, you're not going to get one over on Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Richie Stamboa: So this night just got bigger.

Al Snow: And it's time to get to the wrestling action, so the first match in WrestleFest history will be a tag team match and I'm quite excited to see these guys go at it.

Richie Stamboa: I couldn't agree more, four of the better talents in the world right now are ready to go at it, Mark and Jay The Briscoe Brothers are making their way to the ring. Their opponents are Jack Evans and his partner is quite possibly the most controversial member of the legendary Hart family, Teddy Hart.

Al Snow: Now he may be controversial but boy-oh-boy is he talented.

Richie Stamboa: If you say so.

The Briscoes VS Teddy Hart and Jack Evans

The Briscoes were the clear favorites in this match. Teddy Hart and Jay Briscoe were first out, with Teddy gaining the advantage early on. Teddy and Jack Evans trade quick tags, working over Jay's shoulder, beating him down. Jay fought back with a ring shaking Complete Shot on Jack Evans. Jay and Jack slowly try to make it to their corners, Jay musters all that he has and leaps out for his brother's hand. The tag is made! Mark Briscoe gets head of steam going and drills Teddy Hart with a big leaping boot to the face! Jack tries to sneak behind Mark but is caught by Jay with a back suplex out to the floor! Teddy Hart is in la-la land as Jay lifts him on his shoulders and Mark moves to the outside. Mark springboards off the top rope for a devastating Doomsday Device for the victory!

WINNERS at 5:21 - THE BRISCOES

Rating - (D+)

Richie Stamboa: What a start to WrestleFest Worldwide!

Al Snow: Ya know thats a great looking modifier to the Road Warrior's classic Doomsday Device. I'm sure Teddy Hart may be knocked out cold by that one.

Richie Stamboa: That right there was a fun fast paced match between four great athletes

Al Snow: I agree with that one. Speaking of great athletes Becky Bayless is in Ian Butler and J.P. DuBois' locker room as they get ready for their official pro wrestling debut!

Richie Stamboa: Did you just call Becky Bayless a great athlete?

Ian Butler and J.P. DuBois are stretching as Becky Bayless walks into the room.

Becky Bayless: Ian and J.P. you're just minutes away from the first match of your professional careers against Los Maximos, what is your strategy for this match.

J.P. DuBois: We've been looking at tape of these guys, and we feel like we've got a good handle on their weaknesses. We're going to try to slow down their high flying attack and keep them off the top rope, unless we want them to be there. We need to keep them off-balance, and keep them grounded. Keep the match in our end, and work from there.

Becky Bayless: What is your mindset going into this match?

Ian Butler: What's my mindset? My mindset is victory, I've worked too hard to go down in my first match. I haven't even considered the opposite, I won't even put that word in my mouth. J.P. neither. We're here to win. We don't need to stretch the rules, we don't need to play it cheap, we just need to win. We're here to prove ourselves.

Becky Bayless: What do you have to prove?

Ian Butler: Everything.

Ian Butler and J.P. walk out of the lockerroom.

Richie Stamboa: Wow! Ian and J.P. look absolutely zero'd in right now. I can't imagine Los Maximos are looking forward to their match up tonight.

Al Snow: Sheesh! I'm nervous for 'em.

Richie Stamboa: We're back to WrestleFest on ESPN2. It's now time for our first ever women's match! We get a chance to see the beautiful Alicia Summers go to work against a quite difficult foe in LuFisto.

Al Snow: Alicia Summers may be very talented, but I have a tough time imagining a tougher female wrestler than LuFisto. This is sure to be a fun one.

LuFisto VS Alicia Summers

Alicia seems to have a lot of female fans in the audience, as they could be heard beckoning her on as LuFisto dominates early on. Alicia is able to even it up with a series of stiff kicks. Alicia rises to the middle rope and comes down with a double axe handle on LuFisto. Alicia doesn't let the opportunity go to waste as she immediately slides over and locks a tight chin lock on LuFisto. This is a clear face-vs-face battle as the crowd gets behind LuFisto as she rises back to her feet and whips Alicia Summers into the ropes and drills a picture perfect dropkick. Both women are down as the referee begins the count. LuFisto is the first up and regains the advantage, LuFisto looks like she's about to finish off Alicia Summers. The groggy Alicia is picks up off the mat. LuFisto's going for a German Suplex! No! Alicia landed on her feet! LuFisto turns around, Hurricanranna! Alicia holds on to LuFisto's leg and pulls a win out of no where!

WINNER at 3:47 ALICIA SUMMERS

Rating - (D)

Richie Stamboa: Alicia with an impressive win.

Al Snow: This has been a great night for debuting wrestlers thus far. We have three more wrestlers yet to debut tonight.

Richie Stamboa: That's true. We heard earlier from Ian Butler and J.P. DuBois, we will also see the debut of Dylan Riley tonight.

Al Snow: I'm a Dylan Riley fan, he's the look, he's got swagger, he's a furure superstar.

Richie Stamboa: That little pearl of wisdom was brought to you by Leif Cassidy.

Al Snow: Oh enough of the Leif Cassidy jokes already! No one even gets that reference!

Richie Stamboa: And thank god for that!

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWr-HtpTOyI&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>

Richie Stamboa: Who's this?

Al Snow: It's Steve Corino! What is he doing here?

Steve Corino makes his way to the ring, a scowl on his face

Steve Corino: Let me make one thing clear. I'm not here to be a good guy, I'm not here to be a bad guy, I'm here to be Heavyweight Champion. And I'm willing to do anything in my power to do it. Anything.

Al Snow: Anything?

Steve Corino: You won't be seeing me waste my time in the ring tonight during this coronation ceremony for a bunch of reality show losers who have zero understanding of real pro wrestling, zero understanding of the old school stylings, and most importantly zero respect. So I'm here to straighten out you idiots who will fall in love with any talentless punk with a TV show and a smile. I'm not going to break my neck day in and day out for you idiots because you don't deserve it. You don't deserve my talent, you deserve the useless reality hacks who lucked into stardom because they sweet talked a couple of producers. That's all I've got to say.

Corino heads to the back to a chorus of boos...until a figure appears in the entry way.

Richie Stamboa: It's Rowdy Roddy Piper! I guess what Corino said struck a chord!

Al Snow: Steve doesn't look too happy to see the Hot Rod.

Rowdy Roddy Piper: Hey Steve! How are you?

Steve Corino: I'm fine...

Rowdy Roddy Piper: Tired of breaking your neck for idiots huh? Well you seem to forget that I'm one of those idiots you break your neck for! So tonight, you will be out in that ring, in your gear, against Jerry Lynn!

Corino's face turns to stone.

Rowdy Roddy Piper: I love my job.

Rating - (B-)

****COMMERCIAL****

Richie Stamboa: Welcome back. Before the break The King of Old School Steve Corino came out and had some harsh words for the rookies.

Al Snow: As poor as his attitude was, he does have a point.

Richie Stamboa: Well Roddy Piper had some words that Corino would consider even harsher! When Hot Rod said that Corino will be in action tonight against Jerry Lynn.

Al Snow: Piper has made it clear, people are gonna have to watch what they say around here. Hey that rhymed! I rhyme all the time!

Richie Stamboa: Really? Moving on..we are moments away from Ian Butler and J.P. DuBois' pro wrestling debuts! They spoke with Becky Bayless earlier and they are extremely focused.

Al Snow: They've got to be careful to not look past this match.

Los Maximos VS Butler and DuBois

Butler and DuBois get the largest pop of the night, and from the get-go are in dominant form against Los Maximos. Jose is the sacrificial lamb of the team being tossed to and fro and stretched to his limits throughout the first few minutes of the match. Finally Jose begins to mount an offense against DuBois with a low blow to give himself a breather from the assault he was facing. Jose makes the tag to Joel who's fresh and in control of the more winded DuBois. Joel with an irish whip and a painful running knee into the abdomen of DuBois! It looks like Butler and DuBois used up a bit too much energy early on, and now they're paying for it as Joel Maximo is beating down J.P. Maximo is going for a suplex, but DuBois stops it! DuBois tries a suplex of his own, but Joel cheaply knees him in the groin sending him to the ground. Joel kicks DuBois while he's down. Joel is climbing to the top rope! Moonsault! No one's home! Both men are down! The crowd is rustling in anticipation of Ian Butler getting into the ring...and there's the tag! Joel tries to reach Jose but Ian pulls him back! Butler slickly applies a crucifix neck crank! Joel has no choice but to tap!

WINNERS at 6:15 IAN BUTLER & J.P. DUBOIS

Rating - (D-)

Richie Stamboa: Good lord what a hold!

Al Snow: I've never seen that submission move before, but wow there's no questioning why Joel Maximo tapped out!

Richie Stamboa: That was an impressive debut any way you wanna cut it. Speaking of debuts...

Al Snow: That's our word of the night!

Richie Stamboa: ...here comes Dylan Riley.

Dylan Riley: I want you all to know, that what you're about to see from me, will not be nice. I assure you that I take no pleasure in it, and that one day in the future I may very well weep for the destruction you are about to witness. Thank you. OK, you can send in the victim now.

Richie Stamboa: Boy Dylan Riley has no shortage of confidence.

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY3LAFJbKyY&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>

Dylan Riley's smile melts. The fans sing along.

Al Snow: Well there goes that confidence. Good luck kid!

Sandman comes from the crowd and is standing behind Dylan Riley without his knowledge. Dylan slowly turns around and ducks a fist from Sandman!

Dylan Riley VS Sandman

Sandman looks more than ready for this matchup, Dylan looks like he needs a new pair of pants. The bell rings and Dylan lunges to take down Sandman, but instead runs into his boot instead. Dylan hops up and charges at Sandman again and this time runs right into a biiig back body drop! Dylan rolls out of the ring and kicks the ring steps in frustration. Dylan is taking quite a bit of time on the outside, Sandman grows annoyed and chases after him! Sandman just chased Dylan Riley all the way back into the ring! Sandman slowly walks towards Dylan who is backing up but is running out of room. Sandman goes after Riley but Riley raises a boot that connects! Riley looks more surprised than anyone that it worked! Sandman looks back and Dylan's right back on the defensive! And Sandman is wailing on Dylan Riley! Dylan drops to the ground and he's getting the boots from Sandman! Dylan crawls and holds on to the ref's leg like a scared child. He's pleading to the ref to make

Sandman back away, wait, Dylan slides over and goes for a School Boy! He's holding on to the tights AND using the ropes as leverage! The blind ref doesn't see it and Dylan Riley picks up the W!

WINNER at 3:58 DYLAN RILEY

Rating - (D+)

Richie Stamboa: And in cowardly fashion Dylan Riley pulls out a win over his surprise opponent Sandman.

Al Snow: Hey, a win is a win.

Richie Stamboa: A fascinating idea. Tell me more.

Al Snow: Well you see...

****COMMERCIAL****

Richie Stamboa:We're back and before the break Dylan Riley defeated Sandman in quite possibly the most illegal way possible. Somehow he managed to pull the wool over the referee's eyes to score a victory.

Al Snow: It ain't illegal if the ref ain't see it. You know who told me that?

Richie Stamboa: Who?

Al Snow: Butch Reed.

Richie Stamboa: And the moral of this story is Al Snow will shamelessly name drop on national television.

Al Snow: I don't think Butch Reed even qualifies as a name drop.

Richie Stamboa: That's a good point.

Al Snow: What is?

Richie Stamboa: ...Becky Bayless is in the ba...

Al Snow: Ohh I get it now! Thanks!

Richie Stamboa: ...Becky Bayless is in the back with Rob Van Dam who's preparing for our main event of the evening against recent rival Homicide!

RVD is doing a split between two chairs as Becky Bayless walks into his locker room

Becky Bayless: Well Rob, from the looks of it seems like you're quite ready for your first ever match against Homicide tonight.

Rob Van Dam: Yes I am Becky, you see tonight is a night of firsts. And tonight Homicide has bitten off more than he can chew. Homicide will not interrupt the triumphant return of RVDtv. My time off has given me better perspective, made me better at prioritizing, and made me think before I act. So Homicide you're not facing the Rob Van Dam of old, you're facing a new and improved "Mr. Wednesday Night" "The Whole 'Dam' Show" "Mr. PPV" "Et Cetera Et Cetera Et Cetera" RVD.

Richie Stamboa: Man that match turned into a street fight!

Al Snow: Someone should check on Steve Corino, after that Cradle Piledriver I think he may have broken his neck.

The American Wolves VS Motor City Machine Guns

The crowd was red hot for this match which quickly dissolved into a knock down drag out brawl. The American Wolves seem to have gone into this match with the strategy that the less order there is, the better their chances are of pulling the upset. Eddie Edwards goes out of his way to pester Chris Sabin on the outside, and Sabin finally gives in and they begin brawling on the outside while Alex Shelly and Davey Richards go at it in the ring. Edwards gains the upperhand over Sabin and tosses him into the steel steps! Eddie Edwards slides into the ring and sneaks behind Alex Shelly. Edwards grabs Shelly and Richards goes for a superkick, but he misses and hits Edwards! Eddie Edwards goes crashing out of the ring! Davey Richards charges at Shelly and he gets sent over the top rope to join his partner! Sabin climbs into the ring to join Shelly, they look at each other...they look at the crowd...they look at The American Wolves...they dive over the top rope on top of them! MCMG toss Davey Richards into the ring. Shelly climbs to the top rope, and Sabin grips Richards into neckbreaker position. Shelly leaps! BANG! The 3-count is an absolute given!

Richie Stamboa: Well that was a very entertaining match!

Al Snow: It sure was, I guess the Wolves' strategy worked against them that time

Richie Stamboa: True but it wasn't a bad idea at all, they just got a bit greedy trying to end it too early

Al Snow: There's no such thing as trying to end it too early, you just gotta execute

Richie Stamboa: You sound like a college football head coach

Al Snow: I was one in a past life.

Richie Stamboa: The hits keep a-comin' from Al Snow. Our main event - RVD vs Homicide is up next when we return!

****COMMERCIAL****

Rob Van Dam VS Homicide

Rob Van Dam recieved the biggest pop of the night by a long shot. RVD seems to take the match less seriously than Homicide at first, as Homicide takes advantage of RVD's playing to the crowd to gain the upper hand early on. RVD lands a few back kicks to get Homicide off his back but Homicide shakes them off and takes RVD to the ground with an armbar. Homicide is in complete control as he floats over and puts RVD in a headlock. RVD gets the release with a few well placed kidney punches, then taking Homicide down. Homicide falls flat on his face as RVD applies an STF to Homicide! Homicide yells is agony as he works to get the hold freed, which he does. They both rise and stand face to face as the crowd cheers. RVD whips Homicide into the ropes, monkey flip! The crowd knows what's coming next! Rolling Thunder! Wait Homicide slid to the outside and RVD goes crashing on to the mat! Homicide drags RVD's head over the apron and delivers a devastating elbow to his throat! And again! Homicide climbs the apron and drops a sick knee on RVD's neck! RVD slowly starts to get up as Homicide sits in the corner like a predator, Homicide charges at RVD, RVD ducks a lariat and drills Homicide in the face with a leaping leg lariat! Both men are down! Al Snow VS KENTA

Oh poor Al, right from the start you can see he is entirely too slow to keep up with KENTA. KENTA peppers his legs with stiff kicks before taking him down with a leg sweep. Al Snow tries to recover on the outside but KENTA follows him and knocks him around. Al mounts a come back ducking a Buisaku Knee Kick and executing a pump handle slam. Al Snow has the crowd behind him now. Snow controls a bit of the action before landing a big Wheelbarrow Suplex. Al cheers with the crowd leading a "LETS GO AL" chant, which lasts a bit too long as Al turns around into KENTA's Go2Sleep. Al is out cold, the match is over.

Richie Stamboa: Welcome to WrestleFest on ESPN2! We have a cracker of a night ahead of us. The Worldwide Heavyweight Title Tournament begins tonight! We will see Jerry Lynn take on Ian Butler and Mr. Wednesday Night RVD take on 'The Demon' Seven. I'm joined here with my recently un-retired and re-retired partner Al Snow.

Al Snow: Hey there Richie, it's good to be back outside of the ring.

Richie Stamboa: Any poker games lately?

Al Snow: I've given up poker for the sake of my poor knees, I'm a pure black jack man these days.

Richie Stamboa: How about you just stop gambling?

Al Snow: What's the fun in that?

Richie Stamboa: Famous last words. Oh look Al here comes your friend!

Richie Stamboa: Al?

Al hides under the announcers table

Richie Stamboa: Oh you big baby.

KENTA VS Jack Evans

Jack Evans was absolutely overmatched in this bout. KENTA controlled the tempo from the opening bell, treating Jack Evans as more a punching bag than a competitor. Jack Evans attempted a comeback but it only ended with KENTA's knee attached to his jaw. KENTA ended the match graciously making Jack Evans Go 2 Sleep.

Winner at 3:57 - KENTA

Rating: D

Richie Stamboa: Well from the looks of that one it seems you got it easy last week.

Al Snow: Yeah? Why don't you lace em up so he can 'take it easy' on you too?

Richie Stamboa: No thanks, I don't have any poker debts to pay up.

****COMMERCIAL****

Rob Van Dam is in the back with Becky Bayless

Becky Bayless: Well you lost to Nick Dinsmore last week and thanks to a deal you made with Roddy Piper you have quite a matchup this week against Seven.

Rob Van Dam: Becky, this is a very bitter sweet time for Mr. Wednesday Night. Last week when Nick Dinsmore's unprovoked attack happened on RVDtv I'll admit it, he put a chink in my armor. I was a bit upset and ran into Hot Rod's office and made a bad deal. I went into a grudge match at less than 100% health and now I've got to pay the price. But Becky, here's the thing. "The Demon!" isn't the problem, he's just a bump in the road on my way to that Heavyweight Title. I have bigger issues to deal with than "The Demon!" or U-Gene. So Hot Rod, thank you for the "tough" match up, but I think I'm more than ready to overcome it.

Rating: C

Richie Stamboa: Rob Van Dam sure sounds damn ready for his match tonight with Seven.
