Why do we only get one order ID for TEW10?

I bought the game, installed it on home Computer.

and now i want to install the game on the laptop, as my home computer is prone to chrashing etc.

bit turns out i cant?

If i bought a normall game on disk i'd be able to install the game on multiple computers so why not this?

I payed for this game so i shoudl be able to install it on all my home computers/laptops.etc

You may install the game on as many computers as you like. You can download it freely and install it as many places as you want from our website.

The license can only be active on one computer at a time, but can be moved freely between computers in a matter of minutes. If you need help on how to set up a shortcut that will do this for you quickly, post here I will give you directions. Alternatively you can go into the eLicense Controls in the Control Panel and do it there.

This style of copy protection is the online equivalent of having to have the CD in the drive when you play a traditional hard copy game. You can install it on more than one machine, but only one machine can actually run the game at a given time.

and minutes is only if you need to boot the machines. if there both fired up i've done the process in under 30 seconds before. and I think most of that was lag in there server updating.

Infact I did it so often I had a short cut on the desktop of both my pc and laptop. :D

HUMM I suppose thats a way round it.

i know you have to find some way to stop fraud.

but still... i just want to boot up the laptop and play it without having to mess on unlicencing one computer and activating on the laptop then swapping back.etc

Can you not register the game through Steam? it seems to work well for Football manager (WWSM). and it updates your game automatically.

Yeah, the FM community have overwhelmingly taken to that :o I've never had problems with it, but a lot of people hate Steam.

Use Google to see what small developers think about Steam (specifically, their pricing and promotional model).

I have TEW on all of the computers I use regularly, primarily because I too don't want to go through the licensing/unlicensing thing. Plus, it's a good way to support a game I like a lot. So there's a choice available. Buy two licenses for the convenience of not having to unlicense/relicense or suck it up and click an icon every so often.

E-license is really simple... the only mistake you can really make is to fail to follow the instructions which are on screen. I had to license offline a few times in the past when my computer wasn't connected to the net and I had zero problems with it.

1. Save License Request (ain't hard)

2. Get to the internet to generate code, save output (again, not hard)

3. Copy code from step 2 into step 3.

Unless you hit the button for Step 1 again there's nothing complicated about it. That's really the only thing you can do wrong in the whole process, and there are instructions at each step to tell you what to do in the event of getting confused or lost. :)

While I'm sorry that you've had problems, they do sound like you failed to follow the instructions. It sounds like you registered the license on one computer rather than got an offline license, so obviously you had problems. If/when you decide to get 2010, you should have no problems running it. I unlicensed the game on my computer and walked through the steps for generating an offline license... obviously I don't have to change computers midway through, but it took seconds and all I did was follow the instructions.

As for not being able to unlicense offline, that's an anti-piracy measure/limitation of the software. Assuming you want Grey Dog Software to keep making the games you clearly enjoy, you should be pleased that they aren't losing their income to piratse by actually using a secure method of anti-piracy stuff AND offering frequent customer service. The fact that they even reset licenses is awesome (and massively helpful), as it's the equivalent of giving you another copy of a game for the 360 or PS3.

While you are entitled to your opinion, at least realise that they are your issues rather than any problems with elicense themselves. :)

I see why its used and the advantages i just think that its not ideaj for offline uses and they dnt get the same benefits from the game as an online user. Dnt get me wrong Scott and Adam have been brilliant everytime helping me out and to them im very greatful

The same can be said of DVDs... I must remember to get them back from people when I want to watch them. :) Everything has their plus and minus points, no offline unlicensing is the main drawback of e-license but most people have the net on their main comp these days, so it's not too bad. Still, no harm in wanting improvements to be made. :)

  • 4 weeks later...

I just purchased TEW10 from the web store. Had to get the CD version as no ability to download the files to my work computer.

I have looked around the forums and it seems to me that basically the process will be install the CD - follow the off-line licensing steps - use an on-line connected computer to get the license - put license on to installed version - enjoy. Is it as easy as that?

Sorry if these are stupid questions but I am getting it sent to me in New Zealand so suspect I will have to wait a long couple of weeks and I want to be able to play as soon as I get it!

Because Remi brought it up...

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3176474 <-- article from small dev saying steam doesn't exploit them

Neither is exactly rich in content but it gives you an idea. The "con" side says that steam has a conflict of interest being tied to Valve and that Valve cuts lower quality deals.

The "pro-steam" side says that it's an excellent way to reach audience and valve's contracts are far more straight forward then brick&mortar publishers.
