Sagitta
No real backstory here, but I'm going to retry my New England based Lucha fed again. With TEW10, I think it may be a little more possible. I just won't be using many actual luchadores until I can either import them in or start training up my own. Considering I'm playing it as a rock hard local fed, that'll probably be a while. To add a bit of spice to things, I added not one, but TWO Heidenreich Challenge workers, as well as recruited the initial roster entirely from people who were unemployed. Surprisingly, my first show didn't stink nearly as bad as I was expecting it to! I'll post the initial roster in a few, as well as any special notes prior to the first match. I also will try (try being the key word) to include graphics where I can.
Sagitta
The Company: New England Wrestling Company (Abbreviated NEWCO), based in New England (obviously) Finances (as of immediately after the prmier show, held in February): -$157 (Sponsor Money not in yet, expecting ~$4,000 Expected February Profit after expenses: About $3,000 - Immediate plans will be to buy a venue with this. Product: Key Traditional, Cult, Lucha Libre Heavy Mainstream Medium Modern Low Comedy, Risque, Hardcore Face/Heel Divide: Medium Women's Wrestling: Division (none hired yet) T&A Level: High (again, since we can't afford the T or the A as of now, it won't show up in the shows... yet) Editors Note: Once things get rolling and the company grows, I hope to start nudging the product more towards a popularity based style. Right now, the workers are based on an even footing between performance and popularity. EDIT: After checking my finances, I made some offers to some female talent, using the same criteria as I did for the guys (unemployed, some rudimentary talent, not likely to get snatched away by any of the big companies any time soon). Sagitta
The Initial Roster Blue - Face Red - Heel Main Event Ernie Turner - I fully exect Ernie to get snatched up by the SWF within 3 months. I'll be shocked if he's not. In the meantime, he's going to be used to both try to get some smattering of popularity for the rest of the unknowns on the roster, as well as double as the second Color Commentator. Hopefully his charisma will rub off a bit on the announce team before he leaves. Ant-Man - Will be running a biker gimmick. Frankly, he was hired because he's talented, young, and unknown. Hopefully I cen get him into a decent groove and keep him high on the card. Jebediah - because everyone needs a big menacing heel (OK, I'll have three, but my two Heidenreich wannabes won't really count). DeCipher - He's a cruiserweight, but between the mask and the fact he's actually mexican, I'm half hoping he'll decide to change styles at some point and become a full time Lucha. If not, using talented cruisers is about as close as I can get to the real deal as far as luchadores goes for a while. Running Wolf - See Ant-Man. Except he's not going to be a biker. Upper Midcard Jethro - One of my two Heidenreichs. He's a 17 year old Heavyweight, styled as a 'regular wrestler'. This guy has wrestling talent with no training to back it up, and zero entertainment skills. He auto-pushed to the upper card which surprised me. Hopefully he doesn't hurt too many people before he figures out what to do. Paranoia - More of an entertaining spot monkey than anything else, but he has the potential to make it. Once NEWCO grows I may try hiring the other two Para's as well. Roger Monteiro - Young and talented, he's almost like a Paranoia clone, only with more skill. Evil Spirit - The guy's a jerk, but he's talented. He's also suffering from the language barrier, which helped prompt me to go looking for some female workers as there are a few who speak Japanese who work America, and who fit my loose hiring guidelines I set for myself. Bubba - My other Heidenreich. This one has zero wrestling skill whatsoever, but is talented on the mic and charismatic. In the stable/trios group I have him in (with Jethro and Jebediah) he will be the guy working the mic. When and if Ernie Turner leaves, he'll be replacing him as the second color guy. Again, shocked he autopushed as high as he did. I ran the first card already, and the crowd absolutely hated him and Jethro, so I should be in for a wild ride with these two. Antix - Generally 'meh', but he was cheap and he won't kill his fellow workers in the ring, so he was hired. Probably will have to have him have a 'name match' with Ant-man at some point because I can see myself sticking the wrong guys into the cards already with these two. K-Squared - Hereafter simply called K2, Kenny Kuntz is a solid worker for a cheap pricetag. I expect him to go far unless I grow faster than I expect I will. Midcard Ron Greenhorn -Ah, Ron. The most boring personality on the planet (next to my Heidenreich Jethro). He can carry others, which is a skill I'll need him for. Once I can afford it, I'll probably slap a manager on him so he won't need to ever, ever, ever talk. Gave him an insomniac gimmick because its practically tailor made for him. Cal Sanders - Cheap, talented, unemployed cruiserweight. This is what I'm looking for. Tempest Appleby - See Cal Sanders. Hopefully Tempy won't flake out on me too often. Stretch the Chicken Boy - Strech was hired because he is Stretch. He's one of my 'go to' guys when I run small feds, despite his lack of any real skill. Lower Midcard El Ladron - Not really skilled, but like DeCipher, he's Mexican (eliminating the language barrier) and, possibly, maybe, will be skilled some day. Pyromaniac - Decently consistant, Mexican, and with a good core, he's my ying to the yang thats El Ladron. Should be able to play squash monkey for a good while until he starts picking up some talent. Non-Competitors Davis Ditterich - Announcer. Doesn't really suck. Good enough for what I need for now. Phonse Lockett - Color - Sucks, but is young. Plan is to keep pairing him with charismatic active workers and hopefully drive some charisma into him. Duncan Kendall - Big Dunc is my road agent. he's decent and has the honor of being tied with Ernie Turner as being my most expensive employees at $800 a show. Everyone else (except Davis) makes $150 or less. (Except Tempest, who for some reason held out for $250.) John Sagitta - User Character. Referee. Eliminates one common headache when playing small feds since I won't be getting stolen away as my talent increases.
Sagitta
Predictions Card; Friday Night Housecall 1 (Feb, 2010) Stretch the Chicken Boy vs Ron Greenhorn Bubba, Jethro, Jebediah vs K2, Paranoia, Roger Monteiro (lucha rules) Antix vs Running Wolf DeCipher & Evil Spirit vs Ant-Man and Ernie Turner Note: This is the initial show so EVERYONE has zero momentum going in, so this may be a tricky one to call unless you got inside my head. I'll give a hint though - I only set a victor road agent note for one match, so 3 out of the four were decided by the game.
Sagitta
A quick note on changes to 'TV Land' - I eliminated the default C-Verse networks and imported a real world file I had set up for TEW 08. As a result, all TV shows were eliminated for January, and February was spent renegotiating slots for them around the world. This should actually prove easier in a way, as one of the 'big' networks I included was deliberately done to allow small feds to get some national exposure (much like happened back in the 80's with the Superstations and such. I still remember watching some of the southern shows at my grandmother's house in New Jersey). As of February 2010, the following shows were 'revived' on new networks: BHOTWG - 2hr, Sunday, Evenings, Fuji TV CGC Title Bout Wrestling - 1hr, Sunday, Early Evening, APTN NOTBPW Championship Wrestling - 1hr, Wednesday, Early Evening, Family PGHW The King's Road - 1hr, Early Evening, Tuesdays, Tokyo Broadcasting System SWF Supreme TV - 2hr, Late Evening, Friday, USA Network TCW Presents Total Wrestling - 2hr, Early Evenings, Saturdays, HBO USPW American Wrestling - 1hr, Early Evenings, Saturdays, DuMont Television Network* * - DuMont is the one I added in. its based of an actual TV network that went bust back in the 1950's that was very, very influencial for wrestling back in the day. At one point wrestling on DuMont was one of the most popular shows in the country - ranking in the top 10 nationally amongst all programs on, period. I figured I'd give a nod (and make the jump to Cult easier in-game) by allowing a network that would actually show programming like this. It should also be noted that TCW and USPW are now engaged in a "Saturday Night War" of sorts while SWF is showing against nobody else. It should make the dynamics interesting! Sagitta
Just going to post the first show. It went better than expected... Friday, Week 1, February; Bikers Den; Boston, Mass Attendance: 57 DD: “Hello, I'm Davis Dittrich and these are my broadcast partners Phonse Lockett and the ever insightful Ernie Turner, and welcome to the very first presentation of the Friday Night Housecall, presented to you live from... Phonse, where are we exactly?” PL: “We're live from the Biker's Paradise here in lovely Boston, Massachusetts.” ET: “This is my kind of place. When you don't know where the bathroom ends and the venue begins, that means you're in for a treat no matter what goes down.” PL: “We have a hell of a show lined up for you tonight, and we hope you'll enjoy it. Kicking it off will be the always strange Stretch the Chicken Boy taking on... wait, who?” DD: “That'd be Ron Greenhorn, Phonse. Poor Ron suffers from acute narcolepsy, which really screws up his sleep patterns. Provided Ronnie can keep himself awake it should be a hell of a match.” PL: “And here's Stretch now to give us his opinion on his opponent!” ET: “Am I allowed to give my opinion of Stretch?” Stretch comes in and rambles incoherently for about 3 minutes about Ron Greenhorn. (F+) Ron comes down, pausing about two thirds of the way to the ring as he just starts snoring until someone from the audience lobs a wadded up ball of paper at him. Ron blinks awake and slides into the ring as the match kicks off. The match itself is a joke, with both men putting on a pretty decent example of How Not to Wrestle. The crowd absolutely dumps on Stretch, but Ron manages to carry him about as well as can be expected until Stretch nails him with a Poultry in Motion at the 7 minute mark. The crowd cheers wildly as they are no longer subjected to such bad wrestling. (E-) Editor's note: For as small a promotion as this is, with the nobody's I'm using, an E- is terrific for an opening match! The tinny PA system starts playing the unmistakable notes of Dueling Banjos, and three huge men come down dressed in flannel shirts, ratty jeans, and sporting filthy old trucker caps. Jethro, Bubba and Jebediah climb into the ring. Ernie: “Is this a joke?” DD: “No, this is a three-man tag team bout, which will be held under Mexican Lucha Libre rules.” Ernie: Aren't luchadores... well... small? PL: “Not in America, Ernie, not in America.” Ernie: “Seriously. This is a joke, right?” When the Banjos ends, the music switches to a hiss of static and someone muttering “Crap, I can't find the freakin' disk... I... crap, am I live?” Followed by an off key live whistling of “Eye of the Tiger” as K2, Paranoia, and Roger Monteiro all climb into the ring. As the bell hits, the massive Jebediah nails K2 and the match gets under way. The crowd absolutely dumps on all three of the Hillmen as well as Paranoia, and for just over 9 minutes all six men flounder around trying to impress the ever-increasingly aggravated audience. Bubba finally puts Paranoia down and the bell rings. (E-) Ed: Another E-! Whoo hoo! Adding insult to injury, Bubba gets on the mic after the match and boasts how as much as everyone hated to see them there, they weren't going anywhere. He warns that the Hillmen were going to rule NEWCO for years to come, and there was nothing anybody could do about it. (E-) Ernie: “Why did I sign up with you guys again? I don't want to deal with having to wrestle that!” The warmup match for the main event kicks off with Antix taking on Running Wolf. Somehow, this match manages to out-stink everything leading up to it, with the crowd of 57 just kind of looking on in horrified amazement much as one would a slow motion train wreck. Finally after 12 minutes, Running Wolf manages to down Antix with a Wolf Tamer, ending the match. Ernie gets up from the announcement table at this point, as Bubba slides in to take his place. Ernie just kind of gives the huge rednecky mountain man a disgusted look as he heads for the ring where he's joined by Ant-Man. Someone starts playing a random anime song over the PA as the masked Evil Spirit and DeCipher head for the ring, and the main event tag match gets under way. Its another showing of Bad Wrestling©, but its at least somewhat better than the prior match. Finally ten minutes in, Ant-Man nails Evil Spirit with an Antidote for the win. (E-) Ed: I'm slightly disappointed – I may have actually had a better match except I put in some bad booking notes. FINAL GRADE: F+ Ed: What?! I'm regretting that next to last match now. I was expecting a low E here. Ah, well.
