...or apparently not. At the ripe old age of 33 I am the newest member at the Johnny Rodz school of professional wrestling. Work starts tomorrow and I can't wait.

Word? You signed up at Johnny Rodz? I can tell you one thing: you'll have fun. It's not as grueling as spring practice can be (college football) but it's not Pilates either. Just remember one thing: pain is mental first and foremost. If your body's not used to the kind of activity it'll go through, you'll get a lot of pain that isn't worth paying attention to. Just don't be that guy who drops out because his (insert basic joint here) hurts.

Every joint already hurts but I don't care. Two bad knees, just got over a severe back muscle strain. But this is something I've always wanted to do so the pain is good. My problem is gonna be forgetting 20 years of martial arts and learning to fall how your supposed to for wrestling not how your supposed to for judo or Juijitsu. Johnny was really nice and he seemed really excited about me joining up, he's apparently already got some devious plans which include me going with an Amish gimmick to team with my friend who's already in the school.

i always felt the worst part is the mental strain, but at 30 I doubt you'd have the same mental problems I had running threw my head at 18 during my first attempt at learning.

Wrestling School Day 1: Ouch

Well I got talked into actually training today. Coming off the bad back Johnny said he'd keep me out of the ring til next week, but today he was like why don't you just step in for a bit watch, maybe do a few falls. Didn't have my gear, he lent me a pair of his own sneakers and bam in the ring I was.

Started with just a few rolls to standing position, then I got moved up to back falls and by the end I was taking leg sweeps, single leg takedowns and double leg takedowns.

My biggest concern exactly what I feared, unlearning stuff. In martial arts I pop right up into cat stance. In wrestling everything is much slower, no popping right up and your stance has both feet facing forward. It'll take me a week or two but I'll get it down. Thursday I think I'll be taking hip tosses and arm drags, seems a little quick, but learn by doing I guess.

Apparently Johnny's already got me booked on WUW's next show. I suppose I'll be ready. I mean its basically just a training show. Mostly the audience is friends and family of the other workers. But seriously if you think its hard enough to get a lub like Land Mass to go more than 5 minutes you should see these guys. At Saturday night's show a lot of the matches were between 2 and 3 minutes.

Anyway day one down hopefully years more to come.

Apu, some friendly advice, be smart when you're taking your back bumps. You'll more than likely take several thousand over the next few months. They will take their toll on you. Make sure to do them right and land on the upper back, not the lower back. I watched a few people that trained when I did drop out because of blood in their urine because they refused to bump correctly. It's the most important thing you'll learn. You already have different ways to fall in your muscle memory, you need to undo that ASAP.

The back bumps I got pretty quickly. It was the rolling and the standing I wasn't doing well. I landed wrong the first two time on the back bumps and learned my lessong real quick. I asked one of the older guys which part of the back I was suppose to land on and he explained the same way you did, upper back and feet with your lower back off the mat. Also the quick hand slap to absorb some of the impact.

Okay folks so I've been booked and instead of starting a new thread to blatantly promote myself I thought I'd just add on to here. SO any of you in the NYC area who want to watch me suck something awful here ya go.

I am booked on the next show which is May 1st, I'm not wrestling but its to introduce my character. I'll be a ringside presence for my tag team partner and "cousin" Amish Cousin Cyrus who will be getting a rematch for the title he lost at the last show. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for kids and the show is very family friendly. If you decide to come out they'll ask you who you're they're to see at the door tell them Amish Cousin Simon. This way I get credit for having people coming out. I know it seems odd to come out and see me when I won't actually be wrestling, although I will probably end up in the ring for a save or some such, but any support is good support.

May 1st

Gleason's Gym

77 Front St. 2nd Fl.

doors open 7:30pm bell time 8:00pm

Honestly the doors open more like 7:00 but whatever

If you can't make it too or don't want to show up to an event where I'm not actually wrestling than please come out to the May 22nd show. This show is in Lower Manhattan on East Broadway. I don't have an exact address yet but I will soon. I will be wrestling in a tag team match with Amish Cousin Cyrus. Tickets for this are a little more expensive $20 but this is a taping for a TV pilot so I need as much support as possible. So showing up is great bringing signs rooting for the Amish Cousins would probably be cool too. When I get more information I'll let people know exactly where.

Also I'll be putting up a link to my first Promo which was cut last night, as soon as it goes up on the WUW website. I don't say much but its still pretty funny.
