Well the thing is I have never really had a problem with any of their games before and I have bought some on opening days. Sure there was a glitch here and there but nothing game breaking. Therefore, I really had no reason to think the game would turn out to be the way it was.

Its a TellTale game.. I now wait for them to be fully released before diving in.. It takes them about 9-11 months to release a full series in chunks is annoying and i'd rather wait and play it in one go when I can actually remember whats been going on

<p>Some games I put down for awhile and pick up later. Rory McIlroy, EA MMA and UFC2 are great examples of games that got better after months of release. I mean... i think it's a travesty that one of the top publishers in the industry has the audacity to release what they basically admit is an unfinished game. Dont get me wrong I'm not praising EA here. But at least they put time and money into making the experience better. Makes that "EA Access" deal a lot more appealing knowing that it's better to just wait awhile for most of their games.</p><p> </p><p>

I initially picked up Arkham Knight and thought to myself "Wow this is amazing!". Then, a few days into owning it, I found myself having a real hard time turning that game on. It just wasn't fun to me. I had just beaten "Lord of the Rings: Shadows of Mordor" and I thought Arkham Knight was technically superior but a much less fun game by comparison. The story was cool sorta. Not as good as the previous games Rocksteady Batman games though. And I saw the "twist" coming from a mile away. And it was a weird twist. It wasn't particularly well disguised to hardcore Batman fans and to those that weren't... they couldn't give the tiniest dump about the character who took up the mantle of the Arkham Knight. I just kept thinking "Who did they write this for?" </p><p> </p><p>

Picked it up a week ago and fell back in love <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Can't tell you why but it probably has more to do with me re-watching BvS and reading some old Loeb and Sale comics. I dont think they changed the game much though I swear the Batmobile controls better but maybe it's just me. For whatever reason I was into it.</p><p> </p><p>

I think a game, and its genre, are more compelling to me based on my mood. Lately there's been some decent UFC cards and I've been into UFC again as a TV show so I find myself enjoying the game more. One lends itself to the other. I might go see a really cool action movie like Hardcore Henry which sent me into an FPS kick for a month or so. Or recently I dug Forza Horizon 2 and then caught Fast and Furious 7.... so I ended up watching the entire film series and playing FH2 for hours in between. I'm not a car guy I just was into cars for a little bit for a month. Is that weird? I don't know it's how I've always been. I'm a moody gamer <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

I recently re-read a bunch of my favorite Loeb/Sale Batman books so I'm really tempted to pick up this Batman game but I have a hard time believing I'll want to play a slow point-and-click adventure (a genre I've never loved) for the next FIVE FRIGGIN MONTHS. I watched some guy "play" it online and it didnt look like he was doing a lot of playing. Looked like a lot of watching stuff happen and him pressing "A" when the game told him to. Of course I'm admitting this is a poorly informed opinion. I've always just felt like I was on the outside looking in when it came to Telltale games. I've really tried to like them. There's lots of games like CoD or Halo that I just dont like anymore but I can at least see why other people do. I dont get the Telltale games. I've tried to like a bunch but I think they're all just boring after awhile. I tried TWD and I can dig it for a little bit but after an hour I feel like I've been playing for days and I just have to stop. Oh well, maybe I'll get Batman on sale in a year and it'll be the kick in the ass I need to get me into this popular genre.</p>

No Man's Sky feels like a £15 early access game that won't get a full release for 3 more years.

This.

First game, in 15 years of buying video games, that I've genuinely felt disappointed in a game enough to want (and received by the way, thanks Steam) a refund.

The above quote is EXACTLY how I felt playing it. It was so hyped. And the end result was so... mediocre, unfinished and certainly unpolished.

The graphics looked terrible relative to other games at this price point recently. One of the planets I was on you could literally see the edge of the sand texture where it met the rock texture in a big jagged box, and the textures themselves look like they're from 2005.

The mechanics are repetitive as all hell. And you don't even get full control of your ship. You press a button to take off, and once you're in the air you can't go below that altitude without pressing a hotkey and having the game land the ship for you. Every time you fly near a sky island (which is suspended there by... magic?) your ship automatically climbs to the new invisible floor. And you can only take off a certain number of times before you have to pay in-game currency (that's effectively what it is, extremely easy to earn in-game currency) to refuel.

The frame rate peaks at 'bearable', often dipping into 'cinematic' and sometimes 'flick book'. That is, of course, between the many crashes.

The planets I visited WERE quite different, I have to give the game props for that, but a lot of the differences were only stat-based. I went to a low-gravity world, but the controls felt exactly the same as all the others. There was a pretty cool ocean world, but the water effects were so bad you could barely tell it was water. Like, literally, I was standing on a beach and it was almost impossible to tell where the water actually started. Apparently this world has pure, distilled H2O in their oceans.

Also, your ship's inventory is so limited that it wasn't very long into the game at all before I could carry more than my ship could, and considering one of the main aspects of the game is resource gathering, even that inventory was quite small.

I have almost nothing positive to say about this game at all, which for me is extremely rare.

Oh wait, one of the animals made an adorable noise when I fed it (iron... because apparently it eats iron?). There seemed to be no point at all to this, but it WAS adorable.

IF it was a £15 early access game, I'd say it was probably worth it (on the proviso that, as an early access game, it was going to get better over time).

But as a £39.99 much-hyped AAA release? They're having a laugh, surely?

Are you playing on PC or PS4? i'm on PS4 and have had no frame issues, nor that of the ocean looking like everything else. Most of the planets had great differences in them, and the Ocan to land look was quite different.

Also, feeding the animals will lead you to resources. After a minute or two of it hopping around happy, you'll see an arrow come up around your courser and it's telling you the creature found you an item, you just go to where it is and you should find a red crystal on the ground, or a plant or something that can give you stuff.

PC, to be fair. I have considered trading in some of my old crappy PS4 games and picking it up for that. The actual core gameplay does seem my kind of thing, especially once you get past the 'beginning' of the game. I've seen my favourite streamer doing some cool things. But my experience was much different.

Fair enough, but that's all any creatures in the game seem to do. Give you stuff in exchange for gifts (so, trading basically), or try to kill you.

Also forgot to mention two other things:

A, the multiplayer - let's call it what it is at this point - outright lie.

B, those annoying mini-cutscenes whenever you get an achievement. There are so many achievements that it just gets boring to sit through. I know you can do stuff during them, but you get no UI due to the 'cinematic black bars'.

Also the way you mine in space - just shoot asteriods - is really uninspired. I mean, it's not a huge deal or anything, just... could be more original.

<p>Yeah the multiplayer. Yeah...</p><p> </p><p>

I like the creatures they are cute. I've only found one that wanted to kill me. So I shot it and got iron...??...<img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

As for space mining,,,yup. The mining in general is silly but to me fun..it's like your ship is a vacuum. </p><p> </p><p>

My biggest pet peeve is the space battle. War thunder didn't prepare me for that!!</p>

<p>As for No Man's Sky... Once I heard of it I was somewhat intrigued, but then I immediately dismissed it as a fad that will probably turn out to be nothing. I hope I'm wrong, but if you look at the reviews I'm glad I spared myself another disappointment.</p><p> </p><p>

Couldn't resist to pick up London2012 for 6€ to kill the waiting time between watching the events. It's a shame they didn't make an olympic game this time. I still like Beijing2008 the most, but I kind of lost my copy and am too lazy to look for it. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Wow lots of hate on No Man's Sky and I have to ask did anyone do any sort of research or anything prior to playing. I've been following pretty much everything I could about the game for about 2 years or so and Sean Murry in interviews has been very open about what the game is about and how it's changed. I'm loving my time with it and easily lose track of time while exploring. My biggest issue is people calling this a AAA game it's not it's an indie game Hello Games made this with like 15 people. Not saying people are wrong for not enjoying a game that I like but for example to be so dissapointed that you want a refund I really wonder if some people really knew anything about this game.

I don't care if one guy made it himself in his spare time.</p><p> </p><p> And yes, I followed the game a fair amount before release. I was promised an awesome multiplayer exploration experience - ELITE Dangerous with planets and animals and languages you have to discover and learn, pretty much. It seemed so cool. </p><p> </p><p> I was also promised a game that, y'know, worked. "Wah wah PS4 wah wah" yeah, but they promoted it on PC and released it on PC, so it should work on PC too.</p><p> </p><p> What I got was a single player experience that looks and runs like absolute crap, and yes it does have a lot of the cool things I wanted, but without multiplayer it all seems a bit pointless. "You can name all your discoveries" Cool! "... and nobody else will ever know". Not so cool. "Roam around an open universe and explore, meet AI and other players!" Cool! "Actually, meet AI aliens speaking a language it'll take hours of play to barely understand, and even when you've finally worked out the language they talk about... what goods they want and what they have to offer in a generic dialogue with zero personality." Worth it! Not. "And for some reason they all live by themselves and there are about 4 people per planet - not including the traders. Oh, and none of the traders are other players because SWERVE~!". ...not so cool. They weren't even sorry about that, they just stuck a sticker over the "online play" info on the physical copies.</p><p> </p><p> WHEN they fix the graphical and PC port issues, and IF they ever deliver on the multiplayer, then I might revisit the game and might have a very different point of view. But for £40? No.</p>

All I said (all I meant, at least, sorry if I wasn't clear) is that if they charge me £40, I'm going to compare the game to other games that cost me £40. I'm not going to say "oh, but they're only a cute little 15 person indie studio, I'll forgive them all these faults".</p><p> </p><p> Fallout 4 cost £40. Total War: Warhammer cost £40. Dark Souls 2, the new DOOM, The Division (Witcher 3 was £35). It's the general price point that new AAA games come out at. By charging £40 they're putting the game in that arena, and they're going to get judged in that arena. Using "they're only a 15 person indie team" as an argument doesn't wash. Not saying they SHOULDN'T charge £40. But they have, so the "15 person indie team" argument is completely irrelevant.</p><p> </p><p> And again, I'm not saying every £40 game is good and NMS is the exception and should be ashamed. Loads of £40 games suck. And I hate on them (but usually the pre-release hype told me they sucked, so I didn't buy them).</p><p> </p><p> I'm hating on NMS so much because I wanted it to be fantastic, I wanted to love it. Hopefully one day I will love it. But right now I really, really don't.</p>
