The PlayOff System

Recommended Posts

I know alot of this might have been brought up somewhere before but I thought I put my two cents in on the playoff system. 1. One is you CANNOT remove the conference championship games. The games crashes everytime you get to conference championship week. no Biggie. you can go into the pstat file and add them back in and the game picks right back up. 2. My beloved San Jose won the WAC. So I think I made to it to the playoffs. There in lies the problem. I think this has been brought up, but there is absolutely no way to tell who the playoffs teams are! Arlie, I love your game but this is bad. There has to be somewhere you can go to see the playoffs brackets. Even its just an email you get telling you the Playoffs seeds. But Im looking at the weekly schedule and I dont know who is who. Or how you move on if you win. If your going to include a playoff system in a game. IMO the bracketing is a must. 3. Now what I did like and didnt expect is the smaller bowl games are still included. I thought it was playoffs or nothing. But small bowl games are still there for 6+ win teams to get into. I LIKE THAT. Thats really all. Arlie, if you havent done it already, please add a way to see what the playoff bracketing is. Thanks!

After further observation. It looks like the top 8 games on the sim week page are the playoff teams. The other weird thing is, in the next round of the playoffs. The Same bowl games are played again. Example- Oregon St is the #1 seed (11-0 go figure) and played in the Rose Bowl in the 1st round. They won. And in the 2nd round they play the Rose Bowl Again? And I assume if they win next weeks game will be the Rose Bowl again? Same goes for the Sugar, Fiesta, and Organge Bowls. I think each week should be a different bowl Game leading upto the Rose Bowl. The Final Game should be the Rose Bowl. The Semi Finals should be the Sugar and Fiesta Bowl (or the Orange.) On so on for earlier rounds. Again just my opinion.

There are 8 "playoff" bowls used for the first round. They are the four GDCS bowls, as well as four others. Then, the four GDCS bowls handle the second round. The third round is two of the GDCS bowl games (not the championship one) and the final game is the championship GDCS game. It is done this way to allow the maximum number of "lower" bowls for teams not making the playoffs. In the next version of the demo, you will get an email when you make the playoffs explaining your seed, where you play and who your first opponent is. Also, the ability to modify conference championship games and GDCS bids have been removed from the create league screen for the next version. We will try and have it working for changes in the pstats.dat file, but we haven't been able to devote a great deal of time to test all the configurations at this point. So, it's a safer move to simply remove it from the main create screen.

Arlie, again you are the man. I noticed the structure as I went along in the playoffs. And the email will make a big difference. But, I do agree with GOVOLS. I think we should get an email of the complete playoffs whether we make it OR not. The same we get on the award nominations even though none of my players were nominated.
Question, will we be able to edit conferences to allow championship games?

Also, the ability to modify conference championship games and GDCS bids have been removed from the create league screen for the next version. Unlike Arlie, I have devoted a great deal of time to testing many configurations, and I have not run into any problems editing conference sizes and/or adding championship games, as long as the conferences are standard sizes. Editing GDCS births and regular bowl games is where I run into problems, and apparently, is where Arles is running into them as well. Hopefully once the rest of the game is stable he can look at this again, as I am not a fan of the automatic bid. :)
I assume there must be a limit on the number of conferences that can be tied to the BCS. There are only 4 BCS bowls so 8 conferences can be tied to the BCS, right? or can you mess with the BCS bowls too?
Whenever I mess with the BCS bowls, I wind up with RTE92, so I would advise against editing bowls.

What I want to do is put Notre Dame into the Big X and give it a championship. I want to add BYU and someone else to the Pac X and give it a championship as well. I want all D-I conferences to have championships, so that will be nice to be able to do. But will this mess up scheduling at all?

The championship games take place in week 16 if I remember right. No other games are scheduled then.

In one of my past leagues, I threw ND into the B10 and gave it a championship game and put the other 3 independents (Army, Navy and Temple) into the Big East, giving them 11 teams, and had no problems. Just make sure you edit the conferences table to show the Big 10 as having 2 divisions and seperate the teams into their divisions by giving them 3s and 4s on the teams table.
I want all D-I conferences to have championships, so that will be nice to be able to do.
I actually did this once too, adding just one team for 10 12-team conferences, but it crashed when I reached the end of week 16. I had added a 5th BCS team and given all conferences automatic BCS bids. If I had left the bowls alone, it probably would have worked without crashing.

Maybe I havent read enough threads..but is that possible to do with the final release??..Ive been playing Action PC with ten 12 team leagues and pesonally I like it that way. I had a championship game with every conference. If you able to do such a thing with the final release let me know

Also, will cross division rivalries which are played every year in real life (like Auburn - Georgia) be played every year or will it rotate?

The default 12-team conference schedule evidently doesn't have any games in week 13, and none of the teams were auto-scheduling opponents during week 13, and the game was crashing when it got to week 13... RTE 91 IIRC... Anyhow, as long as you schedule a game in week 13, this works.
