TsuMirren
I must admit, I've yet to actually start this Dynasty...I just thought I'd lay claim to it and announce that I'll be starting it soon. I've been busy playing my All Star one, with two months to type up, but I'll start this ASAP and update soon enough.
D. Boons Ghost
As long as you type out the phonetic interpretation of Kendo's Theme, I'm there! :) Seriously, good luck. I'll be looking forward to see how Big Daddy comes out of this.
Carbon Tiger
I'm interested in seeing how this goes. Also I have a question for D. Boon's Ghost or any of the other guys who worked on the great DOTT mod (personally playing Stampede has been a BLAST). I watched a ton of wrestling in the 80s but the British stuff I have no clue about, because it's not the easiest stuff to find for sale/trade. My knowledge of The World of Sports era starts and ends with Johnny Saint. So for myself and hopefully a few of the other people reading could someone give me a primer of the British scene during this period and kinda a whose who and their deal was ? Thanks. D. Boons Ghost
One of the best resources for old-time British Wrestling resides at 1 Stop Wrestling. I pointed you to an excellent article on 'The History of...', but strongly suggest spending some time at the British Wrestling section of their forums. I learned a ton of stuff from those guys. Before researching and putting together the data for the U.K. wrestlers, I had absolutely no clue about that scene. Reading about it through the fans eyes at that forum was really a wonderful experience. In many ways, it was akin to being 12 again and reading the stories in the Apter magazines about all of the exotic territories... like Florida. ;)
Carbon Tiger
Thanks. And the Apter mags man I remember those foundly.
TsuMirren
Yeah, go to the 1stopwrestling forums and basically read anything by jnlister or I think dmantell is the other one...may be wrong on the second name. I was reading it last night and found the Shirley Crabtree topic a great read, he was actually slim and good once...so, I now look on his later days with a bit more fondness really. He'd done his bit, so was later making his money and that's fair enough really. Of course, if you reeeeeeeeeeally wanna know...go onto ebay and buy the 25 DVD sets of action, I believe there are 4 sets.
TsuMirren
Joint Promotions January 1983 Week 1: Hello grapple fans and welcome to Joint Promotions. This dynasty will take us through the days when ITV still showed UK wrestling and every show wasn’t littered with American Indy Stars. It’ll be pretty pointless giving Arenas, as the majority in the database didn’t exist in 1983. JP Info: At the start, JP’s finances are at $250,000 and the Regions are set as follows: North C – South C – Midlands D – Scotland D Goals Set: JP must not fall in size, one year deadline Cash must be over $300,000, two year deadline Cash must not go below $0, two year deadline A Working Agreement was agreed with Stampede (I also edited some working areas for workers, as some are wrong) and NJPW refused a Working Agreement. JP News: Steve Casey, Les Thornton, Keiichi Yamada, Chris Adams, Chic Cullen and Alan Kilby all sign PPA deals. Johny Saint and Marty Jones each sign EPPA extensions, whilst Danny Boy Collins signs on an EPPA. Dynamite Kid, Owen Hart and Davey Boy Smith all want to concentrate on Stampede…I’ll be keeping an eye on that though. JP South Tour: 4,990 K.Yamada & Japanese Tiger over The McCoys – C+ Les Thornton over Alan Kilby in a British Mid-Heavyweight Tournament 1st round bout – C+ Marty Jones over Chris Adams in a British Mid-Heavyweight Tournament 1st round bout – B+ Bobby Barnes over Brian Maxine – C- (Bobby put out a challenge to Johnny Saint) Chic Cullen over Jon Cortez in a British Mid-Heavyweight Tournament 1st round bout – C+ Otto Wanz over Kendo Nagasaki by DQ – B Steve Grey over The Amazing Kung Fu (British Lightweight defence) – C+ Big Daddy & Danny Boy Collins over Giant Haystacks & Mike Jordan – C+ Overall C+ Results during the week: Leo Burke becomes CSW North American Heavyweight Champion JYD becomes the Mid South Wrestling North American Heavyweight Champion Bugsy McGraw becomes MACW Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion Rick Martel becomes AWA TV Champion ITV World of Sport: 2,000 Japanese Tiger defeated Danny Boy Collins by two falls to nil – C+ Big Daddy and Alan Kilby defeated King Kong Kirk & Mike Jordan – C+ Big Daddy went on to hype Alan Kilby after the match Jackie Pallo defeated Chic Cullen in a fantastic bout – A Johnny Saint defended the World Light Heavyweight Title against The Amazing Kung Fu, winning two falls to nil – B+ Unseen by Saint, Bobby Barnes stole the title belt from the announce table. Overall B JP News: South and North Regions both rise to C+, with Scotland and The Midlands rising to C- Japanese Tiger made the mistake of arriving very late and TV brought in 85,656 The only other worthy news is that Davey Boy Smith failed a roids test…one can only imagine the headlock Stu Hart put on him for that. Week 2: The week started with ASWUK crowning a few new Champions, fortunately Brian Dixon is years away from booking UK WWF rip-offs at this stage. Steve Wright became European Middleweight Champion, Mal Sanders became ASWUK Heavyweight Champion and the team of Chic Cullen and Mike Bennett became National Tag Champions...in this instance, they were Tag Champions for as long as it took me to woo Bennett with a nice cup of Earl Grey and some Garibaldi biscuits. I wouldn’t have, but Dixon made an offer to Johnny Saint. He must have sensed the fact four of his locker room were leaving for Joint Promotions. JP South Tour: 4,696 Jim Breaks over Clive Myers in a British Mid-Heavyweight Tournament 1st round bout – B Chic Cullen and Mike Bennett defeated The Caribbean Sunshine Boys by DQ – C Bobby Barnes came to the ring and stated he was the true World Light Heavyweight Champion, Pat Roach disagreed with this claim and challenged Barnes. – 2x C- Pat Roach defeated Bobby Barnes – C+ Alan Kilby over Keiichi Yamada – C- George Gillette and Kendo Nagasaki appeared, Gillette handed Kilby a piece of paper and Kilby (remember, Alan was deaf and dumb) threw it to the ground – C- Japanese Tiger defeated Steve Grey in a non-title bout – C+ Afterwards, Tiger refused a handshake and then threw Grey out of the ring. – D & C- Big Daddy & The McCoys over Giant Haystacks, Pete Roberts & The Amazing Kung F – C+ Big Daddy celebrated with the fans “Easy, Easy, Easy, EASY!!!” – B Jackie Pallo and Johnny Saint put on a technical exhibition, going to a 15 minute draw – A* Overall A ITV World of Sport: 2,000 Johnny Saint was challenging Bobby Barnes, only for Jackie Pallo to come down and challenge Saint to a title bout. “Not one to disappoint his fans folks…” Saint accepted, both men again going to a 15 minute draw. – 2x B & A* Marty Jones amused the crowd with a reply to Thornton, but Les Thornton went on to win their British Mid-Heavyweight Tournament 1st Semi-Final bout “Tough luck Marty, maybe next time…” – B+ Steve Grey claims he knows who Japanese Tiger is “I don’t think Steve Grey has wrestled abroad fans, so let’s watch this with interest.” – C- Japanese Tiger is in the ring, the crowd watch on as they’re told all about how great Tiger is. – C+ Japanese Tiger makes a claim that he’ll unmask if he’s pinned tonight. – B- Steve Grey over Japanese Tiger by two falls to nil, “Ladies and gentlemen, the match is won but the deciding fall was by Disqualification. So, Japanese Tiger will not be un…” – B- Japanese Tiger shocks the crowd, piledriving Steve Grey on a ringside table. “That’s not something you need to see here, come on really…this is more suited to American freestyle wrestling. Steve Grey is laid right across me here folks, we really do need some attention quickly.” – D Overall B TV drew in 86,264 viewers The only result of note was Adrian Adonis becoming SWCW South West Heavyweight Champion. D. Boons Ghost
I love how the voice of Kent Walton shines through in the dynasty. What was on that paper that Gillette and Kendo gave Kilby? Who is the mysterious Japanese Tiger? Will we ever see the reformation of the Hell's Angels? Will Giant Haystacks ever beat Big Daddy? Great start. I'm looking forward to the next chapter. And apologies for the locations, heh. I snagged the extended locations file (with permission) and tweaked out as many American arenas as I could remember. Still, I missed a lot - and didn't even touch the U.K. If you ever have the time and inclination, I'd love to get your input on some early 80s venues.
