Doomba
One thing that I'm pleasantly happy to see; something that no one mentions until it's noticed and already out-of-hand... but... Good job by Arlie and co. getting a buttload of different first and more importantly, last names into the name data base. Nothing makes a text-based sports sim worse than having copies of the oddest last names, or the most notable last names repeated over and over. This is a huge problem with EA... They take the programmed lastnames of real players, then repeat them.. It's terrible when you run into Bob Urlacher, or Andy Favre, or Greg Dilfer, or even worse... Jamal Feely. Good job guys...enough of my optimism. Back to your regularly scheduled Doomba.
Jeremy Weimer
I whole heartedly agree with this. That is one thing that constantly bugs me with big market sports game like EA and 2K's product lines. You way too often get the same old names used over and over. I mean those companies have lots of employees and huge budgets, you'd figure they could spare a little extra $$$ to hire a researcher or two to come up with a solid list of names to use in their databases. gopokes
why not just pick up a phone book and use those last names. then you would get a nice mixture of names common and uncommon names. just my thought. I agree about having the same last names over and over again btw.
Doomba
That's exactly what I was thinking. The phone book would be a great, cheap way to put names in the game. And maybe put percentages next to each name, such as a Williams 1.2%, Favre 0.028% (or something of the matter).. because there are TONS of "Williams'" and there won't be too many "Favre's" out there after this one leaves football... Make sense?

Tim Plum
bbcf doesn't use % it uses frequency so Rahn has a 1 while Smith may have a 68.

Tim Plum
not percentage. take a minute and look at the tables in bbcf and you will not see %.

Old Boiler
bbcf doesn't use % it uses frequency so Rahn has a 1 while Smith may have a 68.
I take that to mean that if "Rahn" has frequency 1, then i add "Derrida 200," i would see Rahn come up even less frequently? The probability would be 1/(sum of all frequency integers)?
