Yes, its back to the Supreme Wrestling Federation.

 

Even as my WCW project was winding down, I had a feeling I would be back to the CornellVerse before long. I held out for a bit, looking at different options - different promotions and different time periods. I realize this is inevitably going to compared to my Generation Supreme project, and I honestly tried to avoid doing the SWF again for that reason. In the end, only two promotions held my interest enough to make a project worthwhile - SWF and TCW. And since I just did a TCW project, it pushed me in the direction of Supreme. I looked long and hard at both the '77 and '97 mods (both are fantastic quality), but in the end, going with 2010 just felt right. As soon as I realized that and started planning in earnest, the ideas flowed - stories, characters, details, all of it.

 

I accept that comparisons to Generation Supreme are inevitable. For good and ill. While the idea of continuity between projects really intrigues me, this is not a continuation of that story. There will be a few connections, such as similar characterizations, reused catchphrases, and so on. But no one is intended to be a pure repeat character. Moreover, the direction and primary storylines here are much different. Essentially, the events of "Generation Supreme" will have no affect here. The starting point of the game is the default 2010 data (with some editing, I will admit) and the diary will start in April of 2010. There will be some "catch up" for the months missed.

 

The never-named "Avatar" character from Gen-S will play no part here. In fact, despite their popularity, I don't really intend to have any first-person backstage segments at all.

 

In truth, the intent with this one is to avoid many of the mistakes I made with Generation Supreme. So (hopefully) no massively bloated roster with two brands and a dozen different title belts. As with previous projects, I make few claims to originality. So in addition to "borrowing" things from past projects and the "real world", there may also be ideas and characterizations from other diaries or simply from stuff people have posted on here. If its intentionally being used, I'll give credit where I can.

 

The "Dark Days" Story

 

There's a lot I want to say here... but out of respect for you readers, I'll hold my tongue. I have to think that seeing things unfold will be more fun than reading a synopsis here. Suffice to say that what brought me back to the SWF was finding a story to tell that I quite like and have high hopes for.

 

As with most of my projects, there is some meaning behind the name. I don't want to give much away yet. But if case anyone is curious, the "dark" part of "Dark Days" is not in regard to "dark arts", the occult, or anything along those lines. Rather, the word "dark" is used in the sense of gloomy and uncultured, akin to the "Dark Ages". This will likely make more sense as time goes on and the storylines begin to play out.

 

The Format

 

I have to admit that I really enjoyed the recap style I used with my WCW project. I was tempted to try something similar in the CornellVerse, and had I gone with one of the historical mods, I may have. But for with the 2010 data, it just didn't feel right. So the approach taken with this one will be full show write-ups, inter-spaced with "news stories" of a few different types.

 

One notably difference is that I am not going to provide match, angle, or show grades. The matches and shows will have a rating system of a sort, but the angles will not. There are a few reason for this one. One, it takes the emphasis away from the results, which as become a focus for me on past diaries even when not intending them to be. Two, it makes me feel more comfortable with this being pretty much a sandbox game where I've done a bit of editing. And three, it simply feels more organic and realistic.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. The support I somehow tend to receive on here never ceases to amaze me. I'm pretty hyped for this one to get going, so its to nice to see the readers jumping on board. It might be a bit before we get to the first show here, as there will be a series of catch-up posts and articles. Its only about three months of catch-up (game-time), so it won't take that much, but a lot of what happens in that three sets up what comes later... the Dark Days...

 

And JamesCasey, if you need me to, I'll job Rich Money so hard that he won't even be able to remember why he once thought that he was, indeed, money...

Thanks guys. Love that you all seem hyped for this one. Also love that a couple of my favorite writers here on the board have already dropped in.

 

I'm hoping to have the first of the recap stuff up on Sunday. I was hoping to have it before then, but most of the weekend just filled up. All the catch up stuff should move pretty quickly - they don't take long to write for the most part and I don't want to go into overkill with the details. That first show is still a little ways off, but at least its the not-too-distant future.
