Wrestling Century
What are the best/fastest ways to increase a worker's Mic skills, Popularity and Overness? For Mic skills, just have the worker in question in long (6 minutes or more) angles, and they should start improving. For Popularity and Overness, just have them on every single show multiple times, and let them win every match. Having them dominate match will have their overness shoot up really fast, especially if they have a brute gimmick. Also, please use the Small Questions thread for questions like this next time, as it makes it so the board isn't as cluttered. I hope I answered your question. Blake Trask
To get people who aren't so hot on the mic to improve, you need to have them in angles in which someone is rated on entertainment. What I tend to do is have the guy I want to get better just be onscreen (perhaps rated on overness) with somebody with better entertainment skills to carry the segment - but I write most of my angles using the angle writer to tailor the roles. I'm pretty sure putting them with somebody that's more entertaining is a must for quicker improvements though. They learn on their own, but moreso if they've got somebody more talented at their sides - just like in matches. Also, to build overness/popularity, you don't need to push people to the moon or spam them on shows, just have them in hot (high rated angles). If you're trying to get them up the card, have them rub shoulders with main eventers, but unrated, with the main eventers on overness or entertainment if they're good. To an extent you can get overness from LOSING matches, although that's moreso in performance rated companies, and moreso the lower they are down the card, as it's the exposure giving them the boost more than anything. I've got people to the midcard ENTIRELY through losing before. Oh, but if you do want them to gain, don't have them lose to guys their own level or below, but it's not necessary for them to win constantly. Mike7273
Thanks. I'm working with the Cornellverse as USPW and have signed several really good workers that need Entertainment to be well-rounded.

Guest codey
6 minutes is a normal match time. I don't know what wrestling you've been watching, but most WWE matches on free tv are around that, and a lot are far longer.
Greg McNeish
6 minutes is the skill-development threshold for angles, but matches don't have the same constraints. I don't know if longer matches help them develop skills quicker, but I've received reports from my Road Agents of skill improvements from a 2 minute squash. I don't see a lot of interviews that run 6 minutes.
Bigpapa42
Six minutes isn't really a long time if you want a worker to actually do anything on air. How much do you really improve if you have 30 seconds to speak every time? Its a realistic limit. You can obviously run short angles if you choose, but you just won't see improvement from your workers. These are the kind of questions that the Small Questions thread was created for, BTW. Since I have some time to kill, random information... -there are a lot of ways to build up workers - skills and overness. There aren't really a lot of right or wrong ways. Some are a bit more realistic than others. -generally speaking, overness is easier to build than skill. Building skill is fairly time-consuming, where as overness can be built up pretty quickly. Its why running a popularity-based promotion at a higher level is a bit easier (for a lot of people, anyway). Keep in mind that building up a great deal of popularity in a short time can have negative personality affects, especially with younger workers. -in popularity-based promotions like USPW and the SWF, Menace-based angles are a great way to build up monster heels in a hurry. Same with squash matches, particularly using the Brute gimmick. -B shows can be your friend. If you can land one and make it work financially, they are really helpful in building up young talent. With a popularity-based promotion, trying to bring up a bunch of talent at once can be a burden that can affect your overall show quality if you aren't careful. -get in the habit of creating your own angles on the fly. It is incredibly quick and easy to do. This is typically more effective than trying to make a default angle work. -it is entirely possible for workers to lose their way up the card. If you have a talented worker, especially if they have great Charisma and/or Star Quality, they will typically gain overness even in losses. It takes a bit of time, but you can take a worker from completely unknown (F- or 0 popularity) to a solid midcarder in a national-level promotion without ever having them win a match on TV or abusing angles. Just have them lose on TV. If they are losing to fairly popular workers, they can gain a decent bit of popularity. -when it comes to improving workers in-ring skills, put them in the ring. Working matches, especially against or with better wrestlers, is how they are going to get better. It takes time - don't expect instant huge improvements - at least not in most cases. James Casey
6 minutes is the skill-development threshold for angles, but matches don't have the same constraints. I don't know if longer matches help them develop skills quicker, but I've received reports from my Road Agents of skill improvements from a 2 minute squash. I suspect (but can't confirm) that the RA is reporting that a worker's skills have improved since they were last measured. That can happen from training outside of matches, but I'm pretty sure it won't happen in matches that short.
