Modern Warriors (HYPE THREAD)

Modern Warriors

It should come as no suprise, but Modern Warriors will be making its way to the third installment of WMMA. I've been very happy with our previous releases, and I think that Modern Warriors will fit the large demand for a real world mod. I've been working diligently preparing for the release, and the fact that the editor allows for work on converted databases has allowed me a great head start. I'm hoping to post some updates every now and then to get people excited for the mod. I especially want to thank Onemanwolfpack for all of his data crunching help, the odds of me finishing this project without his assistance would have been pretty low.

A few things up front. First, I don't have an estimated release date. I've made a lot of headway and I can guarantee with certaintly that a release will happen, hopefully sooner rather than later. I have as much fun creating the mods as many people do playing them, so I spend a lot of time on this. However, my Holidays are not set in stone at this point and so I'm unclear how much work I'll be able to do during that stretch. Second, I've already got a team in place to help me test this, so please don't ask. Finally, I love suggestions, comments, etc. Feel free to request any fighter, org, addition, or whatever in this thread.

Update #1 (12-6-10)

Number of fighters. The number of fighters in Modern Warriors will not be increasing by leaps and bounds as in previous versions; in fact, the number may be less than in the last WMMA2 release. However, this is a good thing. I've weeded through over 200 (and counting) fighters who had retired, became so irrelevant to warrant removal from the game, etc. I'm also in the process of adding a lot of lower level prospects so that there are fighters at every stage of development. This should be beneficial given that new fighters now start at 0-0. I'm not finished with the mod and so I do not have a final count, but the total number of fighters should be fairly close to 2000. This means that even with the purging of older fighters, Modern Warriors will still be the most complete mod in WMMA. I will be more focused than in the past to keep the roster of fighters at a manageable level, because even though WMMA3 seems to run much faster than WMMA2, I know slow loading times is a turn off for a lot of players.

Update #2 (12-6-10)

Statistical Uniformity. The modmaker addition, as well as the mass editor and mass deleter, are going to be an incredible help in making this mod not just realistic, but also in line with how the game was intended to be played. Not only do these features allow me make large sweeping changes in the database, but it also lets me look closer at the way the default database is laid out. In the end, I will build every fighter to fit their specific style, but that will be within the bell curve of each individual statistic. For instance, instead of having a ton of fighters with Punching Power in the 80-90 percent range, each statistic will follow the percentage range used in the default database (I.E. 1% of the database will have 91-100, 2% will have 81-90, 4% will have 71-80, and so on.) This will keep the MW universe balanced so that play is realistic now and in the future.

Update #3 (12-10-10)

Updated Fight Histories. Thanks to my main man Onemanwolfpack, we're going to have over 2,000 fight histories from all over the world, including every major UFC, Pride, Strikeforce, etc. We've eliminated some older fight histories, pruned some innacurate ones, and are in the process of eliminating those that don't include two active fighters. This should help the mod move at a much faster clip. Best of all, the initial release will utilize the new feature specifying the type of stoppage used. In the initial release, every historic submission by armbar or KO by headkick will be recorded in the histories.

Update #4 (12-14-10)

General Update. Things are progressing nicely with the mod. I spent a lot of time before the release working on updating the pic pack. It's looking great and I will be posting some samples of it in my next big update. I think it will be a big hit. Speaking of graphics, EddieFnG is hard at work doing some new logos and banners for the promotions which will be in the new release. I loved our original banners but after the guy that did them disappeared it slowly became a hodge podge. As far as fighters go, I've deleted more than I expected. I've made it through nearly all the database and we're currently sittinag 1725 fighters. I'm really excited about this because having some of these guys who have been out of fighting for years still in there took away from the experience. I've got close to 200 new fighters I intend to add, but not all of them will make the cut into the first release. These are mostly prospects and international fighters; anyone who will soon or has recently fought for a major promotion is in the game. The big hurdles left are working the database into the same statistical range as the default database, and spending some time perfecting the UFC roster.

Update #5 (12-18-10)

Pic Pack. For the months leading up to the release I've been cutting pictures for the pic pack. Hours later, and I've got a pack I'm really happy with. I've attached a couple of examples, all images have the same background and border.

Great news to hear this is being created for WMMA 3 :) A fighter i think would be a good addition if he's not in there already is Nick Gaston, 'Afrozilla' has had some exciting and brutal fights in his short career (im a a fan of any MMA fighter who utilizes scything Elbows).

I love the Modern Warrior mod and it's the only one I used for WMMA 2 and made it worth playing as the Default Database wears on me after awhile. My only suggestions or complaints would be with Organizations.

I was wondering if you'll start the UFC off with a blank Flyweight division. Dana White confirmed the addition of the division and even said it would be added soon but hasn't gone much further, however it seems like it's all but a done deal. I figured you most likely wouldn't since it isn't technically official since there are no fighters or matches in the division yet.

Also just was wondering what promotions would be included in the Mod this time or is it would be the same ones as before. The ones i'd like to see added would be:

SLAMM!! Events - SLAMM is an organization based in The Netherlands that holds Muay Thai and MMA events. There big promotion is Netherlands vs. Thailand in which they pit Dutch and Thai competitors against one another usually in Muay Thai events. That being said they're still one of the biggest promotions in Europe with delayed events broadcast on Eurosport in 52 countries and averaging 4,000+ per event.

Tachi Palace Fights - After the WEC abosrbrtion folded they are potentially the biggest spot left in America for lighter weight classes (other than UFC obv). Being arguably, the biggest organization left in the States to offer a Flyweight class they also boast having the best Flyweight around in Formiga da Silva. The only knock is all their events are in the Tachi Palace and they are only a regional promotion that flourishes in lower weight classes.

Shark Fights - Around since 08 their last card had Paul Daley, Ketih Jardine, Sokoudjou, Houston Alexander all on it together. Josh Neer is also their Interim Welterweight Champion. Jardine lost in the Main Event and Alexander pulled a big one out over Sokoudjou. Boasting those relatively big names means they may warrant a place in the game.

International Fighting Championship - IFC has been around for a bit now and seems to be alive and well. Not only being one of the few organizations to maintain an actual Super Heavyweight division they also have a Cruiserweight division that maintains the chance for smaller heavyweights to be able to fight against people near their weight. Also having Babalu Sobral and Tim Sylvia as champions means they have the respect to attract relative talent.

I understand I'm just being picky and probably annoying and the chances you'll actually consider adding any of these to be low I just figured I'd post here and hope to save myself the time of adding them in once I download this one. Plus your mod is of a much larger quality then what I actually do myself. Ah well hope you take at least one of these into consideration.

I've recommended to Tag that we add a lot of the top KOTC guys.
