Runtheball
When I'm hiring staff members and scouting services, it seems the scouting services costs are not accurately deducted from my total budget. I had 105k remaining after filling all my coaching positions, and then hired a scouting service that cost (about) 90k, but then my remaining budget was listed as 90k. Tim Plum
did you click save after making the changes? Also remember that staff hiring happens after scouting services and is a fixed cost in your budget in week 1.
Runtheball
I'm sure I was trying to hire scouting services after I had signed staff. Maybe that's why their cost wasn't properly deducted.
Tim Plum
Scouting service happens in week 1 of the season, hire staff happens in week 2-4 of the postseason.
Roger Kaputnik
No, Tim, that’s not what he means. He means funding not staffing—all during week 1. It does not deduct the money for the scouting service.
Tim Plum
if you hire coaches you are near the end of the single season demo, so you wouldn't be able to roll over to see a new budget and see scouting costs deducted in week 1 of the following season. Roger Kaputnik
Nope, not the bug we're talking about. It happens in week 1 of the start of the game.
Tim Plum
never seen it in week
Roger Kaputnik
Do this (IN WEEK 1!!): 1. Set your recruiting service to a cheap one. (save) 2. Then go to the budget and set it so you spend every dime. (save) 3. Now go back to the recruiting service menu and change your service to a more expensive one and of course, save. It will allow you to spend more money on recruiting even though you have spent all of your budget.
Arlie Rahn
I just did that exact thing and it says "You cannot save with a negative balance."
Runtheball
In order to skip right ahead to the recruiting section of the demo, I followed Arlie's suggestion (posted in a forum either here or on the FOF forums) and I simmed the initial season. Then at the start of the offseason you get to hire staff and scouting agencies. I still think its a bug.
Roger Kaputnik
I just did that exact thing and it says "You cannot save with a negative balance."
You must be working on a more advanced build than the new demo. I never get that error.
Biltong
Kind of a related question. I noticed that playing a major team I had money left after maxing everything I could. Does this have any effect on the budget next season or evaluation of performance? I guess this will only effect very well funded schools, but curious if it has any impact. Tim Plum
no effect on the following season. Spend every $$

If you max out your budget in the fall, those settings carry over into the coach bidding stage next offseason. So, you may not have enough cash to get a better coach if you spend an extra 100-200K on your camp budget. If you like your assistants or think you can get adequate replacements for the same amount, spend it all. But if you want to improve a coordinator slot or have extra money for hiring assistants, you may want to leave a little left over. At the start of the offseason, you do get a new budget, so you may end up getting more anyway. It's just a move to be safe.
