Territorial Takeover: The Rise of the Alliance

Recommended Posts

This was originally a mod that I was working on for EWR sometime last year, until I got bored of booking sims and stopped. Then had the bright idea to bring it over to TEW 10 and hopefully complete it this time.

It's a mod set in 2012 and is about the rise once again of the NWA (the rise starts in 2001 after the death of WCW) and the promotions/stars that have formed since.

At present I'm at 11 promotions, 8 NWA sanctioned feds and 3 none:

NWA Sanctioned:

NWA: Grandstand Wrestling (UK)

NWA: Guerra Lucha Libre Mexicana (MX)

NWA: Hollywood (USA)

NWA: Pro Wrestling Alliance (USA)

NWA: PU (Punk University) (USA)

NWA: Women Of Honor (USA)

NWA: World Wide Wrestling (USA)

NWA: Xtreme Fight League (USA)

NWA: Hart of Canada Wrestling

None NWA Sanctioned:

World Of Sport Wrestling (UK)

Cartel Mexicano de Lucha Libre (MX)

Guerrilla Warfare Wrestling (USA)

There are more promotions to come but these are the ones that are either complete or near to completion. Next to come is the backstory in full and individual fed breakdown. Feedback is welcomed.

Territorial Takeover is a mod taking place in 2012, some say it’s the end of the world but what really happens is the return of the NWA to full control over the wrestling world. It controls not only the United States of America, Canada and most of Mexico but it also has stakes in England, Europe and Japan.

As its grip on the world strengthens it does not come without a fight, a powerhouse of the UK is rallying the troops and aims to take down the number one promotion in America. World of Sport Wrestling (an entity owned and backed by the BBC) is leading the march against the NWA. WOSW is not alone however, it has supporters oversees as well in the underground; Guerrilla Warfare Wrestling, lead by Paul Heyman who is the leader of the anti-establishment once more.

The NWA began to take control once again as it made a secret bid to buy back the rights to the WCW brand along with its video libraries and trademarks. This saw the NWA take a huge leap back into a powerful position. Not resting on its laurels, the NWA board bid over the head of the WWF for the second time in mere months. Next on the chopping block for the fans and industry alike was the anti-establishment in Extreme Championship Wrestling. The company sold its trademarks and licensing to the National Wrestling Alliance for what turned out to be a lower price than offered by the WWF, a decision in which Paul Heyman would later regret.

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii164/Steesh07/TTONWAInvasion.jpg

By buying out two of the biggest/most influential promotions in the history of wrestling, the NWA had a choice, whether to stay to one territory (as seen the South East) and strengthen or to move on and take out more of the competition. Now with number two and number three companies under its grasp the NWA began picking up the smaller promotions, seemingly to destroy the wrestling industry in a “if we can’t have it no one can” mindset. But it was all part of an even bigger revitalisation of the industry, but with these changes come a dramatic change in attitude from the talents as they were losing their jobs quicker than ever. This saw an uprising which brought with it new demands for a union and this was met with great response from wrestlers, referees and everyone in between.

In a bid to quash the revolt, the NWA began rebranding some of the company’s they had acquired and in doing so; they began creating the new National Wrestling Alliance (making a grand emphasis on alliance.) Temporarily putting off a rebellion of sorts, the new company’s began appearing on the wrestling map around the end of 2002 through into 2003.

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii164/Steesh07/TTONWAInvasion1.jpg

As seen above; of the five promotions bought out by the NWA, in their places were born two more: NWA Hollywood (ran by Ace Steel) and NWA World Wide Wrestling (ran by Dusty Rhodes).

The next step on their territorial take over was to fill the east and west coast divide by opening a promotion in central America, essentially; Wichita. However the backing was not there from any of the local promoter as the neither had the willingness to move under the NWA banner nor did they have the money to buy into the NWA (which was a new initiative to stop promotions using the NWA name to rouse more interest.) This led the Alliance to open another one of their own promotions and invest yet more money, to cut costs however they opened an all women’s promotion, named NWA: Women Of Honor. They brought in a promising young promoter named Dave Prazak to take the helm as they were impressed with the work he had done in IWA: Mid South. Prazak announced the first event to take place on January 15th, 2004 and it made a good impression on the fans in attendance.

Throughout 2004, the NWA tried making advances into Mexico and they were denied at every opportunity, instead they turned their attentions to the Canadian side of the border and finally made its way into the capital. In May of 2004 we saw the first NWA sanctioned federation open; NWA: Hart of Canada Wrestling. The new promotion which is co-owned by The Hart Family and the NWA is a company that prides itself on being all about professional wrestling; it is run by two of the greatest wrestlers of all time: Owen and Bret Hart.

From the ashes of two of the big three came the shining light of the wrestling world: World Wide Wrestling. In December 2001, NWA and wrestling legend; Dusty Rhodes (along with the Rhodes clan) opened WWW and just one year later they were accepted into the NWA by the anonymous board of Directors.

In its nine years of history, the WWW has had a rollercoaster ride and with that has built a strong devoted fanbase. However this has alos cost them the NWA Tag Team Titles, NWA Lightweight Title, NWA European Title and the NWA Television Title.

The championships were moved from the World Wide Wrestling promotion to smaller counterparts within America and the rest of the world.

Guerrilla Warfare Wrestling

Profile:

One of the only none sanctioned NWA promotions in the United States; GWW (Guerrilla Warfare Wrestling) are hostile towards any NWA activity. They treat them as the enemy and can turn up at any NWA show causing issues for fans and wrestler alike.

This anti-establishment attitude sees them signing people who have a fond hostility towards the NWA. Including one of the most over wrestlers in America; Jeff Hardy.

The signed Ashley Massaro to a long contract in 2009 following a scandal that happened within the NWA (see Massaro.)

GWW harbours a great focus on hardcore wrestling and makes that a point in their shows. However it also focuses around the strong style by bringing in key Japanes talents.

Yep, it's an alternate reality, so most of the promotions that were around in 2001 existed but soon got took over, closed or the rights were sold on etc. Most of the big promotions will have backstory's and the like or will be integrated into the timeline. But most of the promotions as known now will be gone.

Hope that clears things up.

They are dead, the next part of the backstory should be up shortly.

If anyone is good at creating logos for events (I'm out of creativity) then I'm requesting a couple for NWA: HW.

At World's End

Deck The Halls

Inception

Independence Day

Lord Of The Ring

The Meltdown

The Others

Revenge of the Fallen

Obviously there is a film theme going on.

NWA: Japanese Purofesshonaru Resuringu

Profile:

NWA: Japanese Purofesshonaru Resuringu or Japanese Professional Wrestling in English is the NWA's attempt to cross over to the Japanese wrestling scene. However it has proved a failure due to the wrestlers in the promotion being of American training and not giving the "fighting spirit" the Japanese want to see.

However the promotion still runs regularly in small venues around Japan. The promotion is currently ran by wrestling's worst advocate; Missy Hyatt.

Despite the poor performance of the company and the oddball roster, many strong workers use the company as a way to raise their stock in the NWA and over in Japan.

Yes, most of the events through the 90's went as planned but some major events didn't take place. i.e. what if Hart took time out from WWF to take a booking over in WOSW when he was supposed to be in Kansas on the night of his fall?

Most of the big names' careers that (are still around) have taken different turns to real life.

2005 – The End Of an Era

As the NWA was becoming more a powerhouse, this started to affect the fortunes of the World Wrestling Federation (who at this time were still running shows under the WWF banner) as their shows were beginning to see the effects. Not only were wrestlers jumping ship which took fans with them, but the head of creative; Stephanie McMahon Levesque had left the company after Paul Levesque broke both of his legs in an aeroplane crash. This left a huge whole in the company’s main event and backstage areas, tides didn’t turn and finally the nail in the coffin came to the company.

The final move which initiated the demise of the biggest professional wrestling company ever came from an unlikely source; the World Wildlife Fund. The WWF (charity) had filed a lawsuit against the wrestling company as they had threatened to do so for many years, the lawsuit was won by the charity and they forced Vince McMahon into changing the name, trademarks and logos of the company to something else. However with the recent harsh times along with a nation heading into a recession, Vince McMahon had no option but to risk his company and livelihood on rebranding the brand.

The rebranding seemed to go well at first until three months down the line when the company’s TV rating began to plummet against the NWA: World Wide Wrestlings. This didn’t sit well with the chairman of World Wrestling Entertainment and by the end of 2004 Vince was initiating a number of steals from the NWA.

2005 - The Nail in the Preverbial Coffin

As we move into the New Year, a new vibe was beginning in WWE and Vince was at the forefront of it with himself returning to the ring in a bitter feud with Randy Orton. This seemed to bring some of the fans back to the product but it wasn’t enough until February 2005 when Kurt Angle attacked a Goldust lookalike backstage. This brought rumours of a WWE invasion and Dustin Rhodes jumping ship the ‘E, these rumours were found falsified as Steve Austin did indeed jump over to the NWA and began feuding with Rocky Johnson Jr. who had previously jumped over.

This was the final nail in the coffin as the World Wrestling Entertainment TV programmes were removed from the air in May of 2005 and Raw was reduced down to a one hour time slot. Wanting to deduce his costs and salvage some of his equity, Vince sold most of his shares to his son and daughter, Shane and Stephanie. This allowed the billionaire tycoon to start up a new company.

In September 2005 the wrestling world was stunned when Vince McMahon bit his tongue and bought his way back into the National Wrestling Alliance.

2006 - The Rise of the ‘E, Total Nonstop Entertainment

Following by example after her father opened the XFL, Stephanie McMahon Levesque and husband; Paul Levesque wanted to open their own promotion. The pair had been MIA from the wrestling scene for a number of months following a head on collision in June 2005. However feeling better and wanting to get back into the business this was the most logical step forward for the Levesques, the had made several offers to buy out NWA: Hollywood and even a small offer to NWA: WWW. However no deal was made and there was rumours the pair were laughed out of the NWA offices in Georgia.

Next they made the decision to open a promotion in Portland, Maine and they named it; Total Nonstop Entertainment. However to gain some leeway within the NWA they made a generous donation in August 2006 and the company was later named: NWA: TNE. With the wheels in motion to open a national sized company within the NWA; they made a generous offer to the other McMahon; Shane.

There was no response from the only McMahon son and this seemingly didn’t sit well with TNE management but they were determined to continue and in September they made an offer to some old faces and some new. Come October 16th 2006, TNE had released an extremely strong roster and the NWA seeing it, gave them full rights to the NWA Light heavyweight championship.

2006 – Mexican Wrestling War!

Using the money “donated” from the Lévesque’s, the NWA made an enormous step towards the Mexican borders and they opened their first Lucha Libre promotion. NWA: Guerra Lucha Libre Mexicana is a North Mexican base company that had an extremely mediocre roster at first but once it began gaining momentum, some of the bigger stars began jumping ship and by December they had made the huge signing of Mistico from their CMLL rivals.

2006 – Wanna Learn Some Wrasslin’?

Not to be shadowed by NWA: TNE and NWA: GLLM, two small independent promotions opened in 2006. However one of them would go on to be the child company of the worlds number one promotion and why? CM Punk was the trainer of the newly opened Punk University (and Undergraduate dojo) which was instantly given NWA status because of the pact between the two companies. However not only did 2006 see the opening of one training school but two:

Next to open was the NWA: Pro Wrestling Alliance from the mind of Booker ‘T’ Huffman, Lane Huffman and his wife Sharmell Huffman. They had wanted to become the child company of the World Wide Wrestling promotion but were edged out by NWA: PU and instead later in the year, Total Nonstop Entertainment took up the offer from Booker.

<p>I like the idea but if this is 2012...the Cali promotions don't resemble anything even close to what the Cali scene looks like. Heyman's Guerilla promotions looks like it's meant to resemble PWG on a slightly bigger scale but the workers just seem all wrong. Maven? Marty Jannetty? Crowds would turn on those guys really fast, even if Heyman was booking them. And NWA Hollywood seems a bit off. </p><p> </p><p>

Incorporating Cali mainstays old and new like Joey Ryan, Scorpio Sky, Scott Lost, the Young Bucks, Austin Aries, Joey Kaos, Excalibur (commentary), Karl Anderson, El Generico, Kevin Steen, the Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli), Super Dragon, Kenny Omega, and the RockNES Monsters seems like it would help the credibility of those promotions since Cali has developed a good deal of talent over the past few years. This mod seems like its ignoring any modern indy workers after say 2004. NWA Hollywood especially looks to be stuck in a time warp to the middle portion of the last decade. Also, any reason why McGuinness is a road agent? I know he's beat up but the guy is still wrestling.</p><p> </p><p>

And you might want to consider changing Bryce Remsburg to the east coast. Dude only started reffing for promotions on the east coast because he was attending Temple and works with a comedy troupe out of Philly. Yeah, I'm a dork... <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Otherwise seems like a fun mod.</p>
