bkchollywood
I beat #2 Nebraska in OT to send them to 5-1 and they stayed #2 the next week, even ahead of three 6-0 major conference teams. Oregon St., Tennessee, and somebody else, i forget. I dropped from #6 to #7 at 5-1 with Texas. Maybe it is the way it should be, but it would never happen like that in the real polls. Nebraska would've dropped behind all 3 of those teams down to about 7 or 8 or so. Remember how Ohio st. dropped when they lost to Texas, or when Miami lost to Florida St. Nobody ever loses and doesn't fall behind undefeated teams right on their tails. The Polls are much better than they were though, much closer to real life.
Arlie Rahn
Yeah, it's to be very tough to pin down every week's logic to be perfect. It's more important that it be somewhat consistent and make sense at the end. But, over time, we may end up making some adjustments.
bkchollywood
I can totally understand how difficult it has to be. I don't think i've ever seen polls that act just like the real life ones. Even the EA NCAA football polls are off, and they've been working on that for years and years and years. Anyway, the polls seem to work ok overall, and i don't know how it will work out in the end, but it should be impossible for an undefeated big conference team to end up below anybody with a loss at the end of the year. Tim Plum
what was the SOS of the teams? Records versus top 25? Those play a part in the standings
Huckleberry
I think those should be less important in the human polls if we're trying to reflect reality. Perhaps a Billingsley-type system. He attempt to recreate the human polls in his computer system. Although his ratings pretty much suck, the basis for something to be used in a game engine is there. I'll probably be looking at recreating that type of system in the near future anyway. Arlie, let me know if you want any info. Offer still stands on the Computer Ratings in the game, also. bkchollywood
By the end of the year, the only undefeated major conference team ended up #1, so there may not be a problem there, as they eventually jumped Nebraska. As long as it works out in the end, the polls seem to work pretty well. Oh, and i'm not sure where the sos was, but i would assume they would all be fairly strong since they're pac 10, sec, and another big conf. I think the 3rd team was fla st. I wonder if others have noticed 1 loss big conf teams ahead of undefeated big conf teams at the end of the year?
