A word of Encouragement to all!!

Recommended Posts

I do not post much at all, but I am constantly reading posts on this board from the great developers at Grey Dog Software and the customers. I am encouraged by this company, their customer service, and their dedication to producing excellent, bug-free games. I would like to personally thank Gary Gorski, who really did a wonderful job on his pro basketball game. However, I would like to say something to everyone. We all need to chill out some. I am like most everybody who was heavily anticipating Bowl Bound College Football. I got frustrated with the game not being here by the end of the 3rd quarter. But, guess what, the demo looks fantastic, and with the amount of detail in a 1st version game, I am amazed at how well it works. What I am saying is I think we all need to chill out, pipe down, and relax. The people at GDS are definitely putting out quality games and learning from the disasters that occured at 400 SS. I have always been one who wanted an exact date, and then wondered why developers could not even hit the "quarter" that was either promised or thought to be released. But, I agree with Gary on this one, I have never developed a game. It sounds stressful, crazy, and insane to put it all together. With that being said, my hope for the rest of the year and 2006 is that we all exercise patience. Customers deserve to know an estimate and if it is not met, it would be nice to get weekly updates if possible of when to expect it. However, developers need to understand the customer's desires too. As I have said, Gary has done a great job and always handled things with tremendous professionalism. But, I can tell by some of his posts lately, that he is getting very frustrated with customer's comments. Gary, I understand it can be frustrating, but I hope that you don't get jaded or begin to get upset on a constant basis when customers are "grilling you" on getting out new products or other things. In closing, let's all be patient more: customers, developers, etc. I give kudos to the developers, but they must remember there are always going to be people who complain. Let's all move past the negativity.

FWIW, I don't think telling people to pipe down is the way to go. If Arlie and company want to run this board where only positive things are posted, so be it. But if that happens, I'm sure they will lose quite a few customers. The board is here for people to Praise, shown concern, and to criticize whatever they choose.
