World Wrestling Entertainment: Across the Universe

Recommended Posts

This is the first time I'm at the helm of modern-day WWE. I've always wanted to try it out, but thought it was too cliche with all the WWE dynasties out there. This dynasty is picking up after the first week of 2011, immediatly after SmackDown. Everything is the same and there is no plans for some outlandish addition to what the WWE has now, but then again, anything is possible in the WWE Universe.

2010 and the Current State of the WWE

World Wrestling Entertainment has had a year to remember. First of all, the WWE was put in the spotlight of politics. With Linda McMahon running for Senator of Connecticut, World Wrestling Entertainment was a focal point for her competitor. Politics have cause the WWE to tone down their product before and this time was no different. The corporate part of World Wrestling Entertainment had some difficult times, the same could be said about the actual wrestling product.

The WWE went through some changes in the ring this year. The introduction of NXT was a big part. The program has a reality show-based aspect to it and it helps introduce newer superstars to the WWE Universe. The big thing this year for the WWE was the emergence of youth. With the departure of guys like Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho and with injuries to The Undertaker and Triple H, it was time for the younger guys to step it up. Superstars like Dolph Ziggler, John Morrison, and The Miz have really picked up their game. The emergence of Alberto del Rio, Sheamus, and Nexus also have made up for absences. Now more than ever, the youth of the WWE has really taken over and they don't seem to be giving up the power any time soon.

2010 and the Current State of Raw

2010 was the year of Nexus on Raw. The class of the first season of NXT took over Monday nights. Led by Wade Barrett, Nexus dominated a good part of the WWE in 2010 and also a good part of John Cena's year. Someone else who dominated Raw is Sheamus, becoming the King of the Ring at the end of the year. He and Randy Orton battled throughout 2010 over the WWE Championship. Randy Orton has been a big focal point of the Raw roster and can be considered the concrete of the show. But none of these names are who made the biggest impact in 2010.

The Miz has really exploded lately, becoming the WWE Champion. He has made strides to become the top-star of the Raw roster. That is why he is the current champion and will be taking on Randy Orton at the Royal Rumble. For Nexus, they have just went through some management changes. CM Punk is the new leader of Nexus after he took out former-leader, Wade Barrett, sending him to SmackDown. Although Nexus has a new leader, they still have their sights set on the same target...John Cena. Raw has a full-plate at the start of 2011, setting the pace for an exciting year.

2010 and the Current State of SmackDown

"The 'B' Show" has had its' ups and downs over 2010. One thing that can be said about SmackDown...it has been full of Kane. He held the World Heavyweight Championship for around half of the year, having feuds with The Undertaker and Edge. The things we have seen out of Kane in 2010 prove that he is as demented as he has ever been. His feud with Edge may be one of the most intense of recent years. The other feud that has taken 2010 by storm is the one between Rey Mysterio and the up-and-comer, Alberto del Rio. The two Mexicans have had bad blood since del Rio's start in the WWE in mid-2010. These two stories carried over into 2011, but it is time for something new for all parties.

The first SmackDown of 2011 saw the possible end of the feuds between Edge and Kane, and Alberto del Rio and Rey Mysterio. Edge is now the current World Heavyweight Champion, and due to some sketchy moves by Vickie Guerrero, his knew rival is Dolph Ziggler. In other news, Alberto del Rio is just off a victory in a 2/3 Falls Match against Rey Mysterio, where it seems Mysterio may have been pushed to the edge. Also, Wade Barrett's departure from Raw led to his moving over to "The Blue Team". The landscape of SmackDown has changed already in 2011 and you shouldn't think for a second that it will stop changing.
