Motor City is Burning [iDOM 2010]

Recommended Posts

NWA Motor City (NWA:MC) is a professional wrestling promotion that was founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1998 by Sabu. In 2009 Psychopathic Records and The Insane Clown Posse became majority owners in the promotion. It operates as part of the National Wrestling Alliance.

The company is known for its loyal fanbase, risky product, and tendency to push the envelope with storylines. Its style is derived mostly from Eastern Championship Wrestling, another NWA affiliated organization that NWA Motor City enjoyed a working relationship with during its first four years of operation. The promotion showcases professional wrestlers of many varying styles including hardcore, lucha libre, and strong style. Notable performers who have achieved success in the company include Rob Van Dam, Raven, Mike Awesome, Rhino, and The Murder City Machine Guns.

From January of 2003 until December of 2009, Motor City aired weekly pay per view events, whose financial performance were less than stellar. In December 2009, it was announced that upon the cancellation of the weekly pay per views the company would be releasing DVD events recorded over the course of two yearly "tours." The first nine events would be recorded in the months of January, February, and March of 2010.

In early 2010, NWA Motor City released a DVD entitled "Top 50 F'd Up Moments," a collection of the most memorable events in the promotion's history. The following is a list of the top ten eight moments the DVD listed. **** your top ten lists ladies and gentlemen.

#8 - ROB VAN DAM AND SABU TEAR THE HOUSE DOWN (1999)

With a lot riding on the first event in NWA Motor City having to be a memorable one that would send the fans home happy, longtime friends Rob Van Dam and Sabu pulled out all stops in the organization first main event bout - that "treated" the fans to tables, ladder, chairs, barbed wire, and lots of blood. The controversial (but certainly memorable) bout had in fact sent most home happy, but turned off some fans who deemed the product "too violent." Regardless, it helped set the tone for the kind of action packed and violence fueled shows that would become the custom for NWA:MC. The Sabu/RVD feud would be NWA:MC's first real feud and one that would last a decade.

#7 - AWESOME/TANAKA FEUD REACHES US SHORES (2002)

The first real coup over Eastern Championship Wrestling that Motor City scored after the deterioration of their working agreement was the importation of a long standing rivalry between Masato Tanaka and "The Gladiator" Mike Awesome that had been raging overseas in Japan. Paul Heyman had long been trying to get the two performers to bring the feud to ECW and had even announced the signing of both men - only for Tanaka and Awesome to show up the very next night at Motor City's "Sudden Impact" and steal the show with their first showdown on US soil. Tanaka would defeat Rob Van Dam for the Motor City Heavyweight Title in September of that year, bringing a higher stake to the next half a dozen times they would meet in the organization.

#6 - RHINO RETURNS FROM A BROKEN NECK (2007)

What is proper retribution for being knocked out of action with a broken neck and then struggling nearly a year and a half to return to action? Well, it was the Motor City Heavyweight Championship for Rhino. It took him all of three minutes to show up unexpectedly to answer then reigning champion Sean Waltman's open challenge and take the strap. His near year long reign that followed saw him truly earn the nickname of "The Murder City Killing Machine."

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v508/IrWrestler86/icp.jpg

#5 - THE SUMMER OF VIOLENCE: SEND IN THE CLOWNS (1999)

The Insane Clown Posse arrived in the Motor City in the summer of 1999, and although they were far from polished in the ring, their willingness to punish opponents by any means necissary would lead to the summer being dubbed "The Summer of Violence." By the end of August they defeated Sabu in the first ever "Echoside Death Match" to become co-holders of the Motor City Heavyweight Title. Their arrival would have a lasting impact (for better or worse depending on who you ask) as the duo, and their company Psychopathic records would later become majority owners.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v508/IrWrestler86/raven.jpg

#4 - RAVEN MAKES MOTOR CITY HIS NEST (2004)

If Awesome/Tanaka was the first big shot fired in the battle between NWA:MC and ECW, the acquisition of former 3 time World Champion (2 time World Junior Heavyweight, 1 time World Tag Team) Raven was the last. After years of being one of Eastern Championship Wrestling's top guy and a worker who had an undoubted and devoted cult following of fans, Raven had a fall out with Paul E. Heyman and packed his bags for good. It's disputed as to what the details of the actual falling out was about, but Motor City would spin it as if Heyman had kicked Raven out the door. The ultimate outsider came into NWA:MC cutting mysterious promos in darkened areas of the arena where he claimed Heyman's mistreatment of him was reminiscent of his tortured adolesence. To say that Raven was a big signing (and draw) is an understatement as his arrival had a major impact at the gate.

#3 - MURDER CITY MACHINE GUNS WIN WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES (2008)

Long criticized as being "stuck in 1998," one of the biggest success stories of the last 5 years for the company is the rise of The Murder City Machine Guns, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin. After dominating the Detroit tag team scene two to three times over, The Guns reached elite status when they defeated The Dudley Boys for the NWA World Tag Team Titles on April 10, 2008.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v508/IrWrestler86/srvd.jpg

#2 - ROB VAN DAM AND SABU ONE LAST TIME (2009)

The Original Sheik Memorial Show 2009 saw the end of an era as Motor City Heavyweight Champion Rob Van Dam made his final appearance in NWA:MC as he defended the strap against Sabu. The feud that started it all for the company took the spotlight one last time at the biggest show of the year. Though time had taken its toll on both men's bodies, they each put their all into the bout and after eighteen minutes of action, Sabu put RVD down for the count with The Arabian Facebuster to win the title once again and send RVD on his way to Memphis. A standing ovation for both men put a fitting end to Motor City's longest rivalry.

#1 - WORLD CHAMPION KURT ANGLE IGNITES RIOT IN DETROIT (2002)

How could it be a list of the top moments in NWA:MC history without the infamous Detroit City Riot being at the top? The Original Sheik Memorial Show 2002 was the site. The fuel? Sabu appeared to have won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship after pinning reigning World Champion Kurt Angle. Pointing toward the heavens and dedicating the monumental moment to his uncle, The Original Sheik - Sabu and the entire crowd would be surprised as Angle grabbed a microphone and read the NWA Rulebook out loud, stating that the title could not be defended (or switch hands) under hardcore rules. After the match was restarted, Angle would force Sabu to submit. What resulted was Angle only nearly escaping as the fans broke through the barricade, and then into the streets. What's more badass than a street inferno caused by rebellious fans?

- After losing their weekly PPV deal back in the first week of December of '09, the "new" Motor City changed to a "touring" schedule for 2010. In the months of January, February, and March they taped nine separate shows that were released straight to DVD. Over the course of the next couple of weeks I, yours truly, will be reviewing those shows. This is the first of the nine "volumes" taped in that first tour.

NWA Motor City on DVD Vol. #1

Riot Prevention Act

TAPED Friday Wk3 Jan 2010

Hatchetman Arena - Detroit Michigan

- The National Wrestling Alliance urges everyone, "Please, Don't Try This at Home."

- We open with an up-tempo, fast paced, obviously house produced theme for the show with high energy clips of past Motor City action mixed about. From early bloody matches between Sabu and Rob Van Dam, and the insane Heavyweight Title bouts between Masato Tanaka and Mike Awesome, to Raven's arrival in the Motor City, and finally Jimmy Rave capturing the Heavyweight Championship - all the biggest moments are highlighted. Eventually, a 3-D rendered version of the NWA Motor City logo "smashes" through the footage bringing the video to an end.

(C Rating)

- The
Insane Clown Posse
are your hosts. In tuxedos and bowties nonetheless. They're also supposedly "live" from ringside. You can tell they're in front of a green screen.

TV Title #1 Contender Match

Kenny King vs Trent Acid vs "The Canadian Destroyer" Petey Williams

We're already straight to the action to start, and I'll be damned if I can keep up with this one. King bumps like crazy for both Acid and Williams in the early running, but the alliance between Williams and Acid is very short lived as Trent wads a steel chair across the skull of the former face of Vancouver Championship Wrestling, Williams. This gives Acid the early lead and he uses it to hit his 'Acid Drop' brainbuster on King. He tries to end it early with the 'Acid Burn' (spinning senton) from the top, but Williams moves out of the way! Picking Trent Acid up, and tucking his head between Williams' legs, Petey calls for The Canadian Destroyer - but King breaks it off by Super Kicking Petey and covering for the two count. That isn't the last of the near falls either as there is at least 20 throughout the remainder of the bout. Not content to let the blood thirsty crowd go without their dose of hardcore violence, Acid busts out the tables and sets two up on top of one another outside of the ring. Ironically, it would lead to his own downfall as Kenny King would reverse Acid's attempt to sandwhich him between the two and crush him with a 450 splash by rolling out of the way and allowing Acid to go through the contraption - debris flying everywhere. Basically down to King and Williams, the remainder of the match was back and forth for the most part with King trying for his Coronation (Torture Rack into a DDT) only for Williams to flail out, kick him in the gut and plant "The Pretty Boy Pitbull" with The Canadian Destroyer for the win and a decent sized pop to boot.

Winner: Petey Williams

- From "ringside," the ICP hypes up tonight's Main Event pitting "The Silverback" Mark Henry (What the ****? Seriously? They're really billing a huge black guy as a guerilla?) against Motor City Heavyweight Champion Jimmy Rave. The clowns are begging for Henry to "**** Jimmy's **** up." I take it Rave isn't very well liked?

"The Ugandan Giant" Kamala vs "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan

Jim Duggan? Kamala? This my firends is the definition of Hardcore! A pose off begins this "dangerous" bout as Kamala makes strange noises and slaps his portly tummy followed by Duggan, with a half ****ed look on his face, raising a thumbs up in the air and screaming "Hooooooooooooo!" The crowd is surprisingly pretty receptive to the two men too. After it is decided that Duggan has most of the support from the peanut gallery, the two finally lock up and a test of strength unfolds. It is a deadlock at first, but Kamala eventually succumbs and Duggan delivers a big bodyslam to the Ugandan Giant. Feeling the sting, Kamala rolls to the outside and that is when all hell breaks loose. Out of nowhere, two guys in red, white, and blue lucha masks with red X's on the face hit the ring and blindside Duggan - clotheslining him to the ground from behind and stomping him with their boots. It's appareantly the first time we've seen them too because ICP even asks "Who the **** are these guys?"

Match Thrown Out

(6:35, C Rating)

- As the two masked men stand in the ring stalking over the fallen "Hacksaw," the veteran digs deep to find the strength to pull himself back up to his feet. As he does, with a glazed over look in his eyes he yells "come on, tough guy!" and
the bigger of the two
assailants charges forward nearly decapitating 31 year veteran with a stiff kick to the head. They don't end with that either as the big man pulls Jim Duggan back up to his feet and plants him with a big sit-out powerbomb before the
smaller masked attacker
climbs the top rope and finishes off the assault with a legdrop. Duggan's flag is picked up and sarcastically waved over top of him to finish off the segment.

(D Rating)

- After all of that clears up, a house produced and lyric-less version of Anthrax' 'American Pompeii' plays bringing out a rough looking
Angel Orsini
, CW Anderson, and a huge dude in black trunks and a bondage mask. They get in the ring, and Orsini grabs a microphone but the crowd is letting her know what they think of her unfeminine appearance with chants of "She's - a - Dude! She's - a - Dude!" Shaggy asks Violent J on commentary if he'd "hit it?" and Violent J responds that he'd probably let her "blow him" but that's about it. CW Anderson grabs the microphone and defends his "girlfriend' by telling those in the crowd to "shut their ****ing **** suckers." Proud of her man, Orsini takes the microphone back and introduces the gigantic big dude in the mask as "the scariest ************ you'll ever meet, the human horror film"
SNUFF
. She puts Anderson over as the unstoppable force in Motor City and begs anyone to try and prove her wrong. With the open challenge set, she doesn't have to wait long to get a response as Disturbed's "Down With the Sickness" brings out Danny Doring and his partner in crime, Roadkill. Doring too has a mirophone and claims that he speaks for everyone when he says he'd like for nothing more than to "****ing shut" Angel's "ugly ass up." Challenge accepted I guess.

(C- Rating)

"Mr. Personality" CW Anderson w/ Angel Orsini & SNUFF vs "Dastardly" Danny Doring w/ Roadkill

Doring, in his pink and black tights, slides into the ring where a waiting CW Anderson wildly swings at him. Doring is ready though and ducks. Anderson's own momentum has him backed into the corner where Doring uses the opportunity to climb to the middle rope, mount 'Mr. Personality' and deliver ten straight clenched fists to the head with the fans counting along. It's a wild brawl between the two for the most part, but Doring's offensive advantage ends as Anderson hits a
****ing nassssty
gord-buster that spikes the "Dastardly One' right on top of his head. Anderson arrogantly laughs at Doring's misfortune and throws up his trademark "CW" hand signal. Taking offence to CW's careless handling of his partner, Roadkill attempts to get into the ring - but is cut off by SNUFF outside of the ring, who clobbers the "Amish Warrior" with an axe handle from behind. A running bicycle kick later - and Roadkill won't be doing much after that. The gord-buster really takes its toll on Doring who isn't quite the same after it. Though he does manage to hold his own, CW Anderson eventually
PLANTS
him with the Spinebuster to gain the victory.

Winner: CW Anderson

- A video airs featuring reigning Motor City Tag Team Champions Jon Davis and Kory Chavis, better known as The Dark City Fight Club. The two fierce competitors are shown training in the gym, hitting heavy bags, taking shots on happless sparring partners, and performing various moves from multiple fighting disciplines. They came off looking like bad asses, and apparently they are as The Juggalos claim they're yet to be beaten here in Motor City.

Motor City Tag Team Title Match

Dark City Fight Club© (Kory Chavis & Jon Davis) vs Team 3 1/2 Legs (Amazing N8 & Zach Gowen)

In the ring, Zach Gowen and Amazing N8 are shown testing the ropes as Slayer's 'Raining Blood' brings out the Motor City Tag Team Champions Kory Chavis and Jon Davis, The Dark City Fight Club. Both are dressed in MMA style shorts, and gloves with the DCFG logo on them. They hit the ring and both Chavis and Davis immediately take the fight to their undersized challengers, decking them with hard rights and going for the ground and pound. The referee pulls them off as the match hadn't technically began. At the sound of the bell, Amazing N8 and Kory Chavis start the match off. It's your standard David vs Goliath, underdogs vs big men match up. Amazing N8 takes the brunt of the punishment for the most of the match leading to a hot tag to the one legged Gowen who hops into the ring and dropkicks both men. His spree of offense comes to and end as Davis easily manages to slam Zach to the mat with a single leg takedown. Laughing, the tag champ returns to his feet and demands that Gowen return to his
foot
as well. He does so and is quickly downed with another single leg. The punishment continues, with the only hope for Team 3 1/2 Legs victory coming in the form of a top rope moonsault from Gowen on Davis. It's broken up at two though as Chavis and Amazing N8 both hit the ring. N8 is tossed to the outside and DCFC stalk Gowen before picking him up and nailing a powerbomb/cutter combo for the pinfall.

Winners: Dark City Fight Club
(retain TV Title)

(10:42, C Rating)

- As DCFC leave the ring with their titles in hand, a familiar face in former Tough Enough reality show winner and TWE Superstar Maven Huffman is shown watching while sitting in the crowd. He doesn't seem to like what he sees either as he unhappily sits with his arms crossed in front of his chest shaking his head, eyebrows raised.

Motor City TV Title Match

The Human Tornado w/ "Tornad-ho" Candice LeRae vs "Dr. Love" Rhett Titus©

Back in the ring, The Human Tornado is joltin' and jivin' with his "Tornad-ho" Candice LeRae. As the fun babyface duo does so, KISS' "Dr. Love" plays bringing out the Motor City Television Champion Rhett Titus dressed in oversized heart-shaped shades and zebra print tights. Tornado offers to shake hands with the champ before the bell rings, and Titus thinks about it - only for Tornado to spin around and Pimp Slap the **** right out of him! As Rhett tries to get the taste back into his mouth the bell sounds and match is on. Human Tornado takes it to the champion balls to the wall in the early going, keeping the pace fast and furious. His work is a lot crisper and much less spotty than it was in his ECW run in 2008 that lasted a mere three months. Rhett finally lands the upperhand with a low blow, and slows the pace back down and into his favor. It's back and forth and pretty evenly fought from there on out, and the ending comes as Tornado tries to connect with the
Dat Ninja Dead
, but Titus lands on his feet and plants Human Tornado with a Crucifix Powerbomb dubbed The Muff Diver and hooks the leg for the pinfall thereafter.

Winner: Rhett Titus
(retains TV Title)

(10:42, D Rating)

- A 'glammed up' Sylvain Grenier is in the ring next with a microphone in hand. His "Fohawk" hairstyle, sparkling body glitter and flamboyant pink ring attire immediately has the crowd disliking him. In broken English and a very thick French accent, the former Calgary Stampede regular tries to put himself over as "The Sexiest Man Alive," and talks about his former modeling career. Yeah, you can say this didn't go over well. The crowd does pop though, when Sylvain is interrupted by KISS' 'War Machine' and a pissed off looking Rhino storms out from the curtain. Sylvain looks as if he's **** himself as the crowd suddenly (and vehemently) begins chanting "**** 'im up Rhino - **** - HIM - UP!" Nice touch.

"The Sexiest Man Alive" Sylvain Grenier vs Rhino

Sylvain paces back and forth in the ring as Rhino climbs inside with his long, wet locks of hair in his face in a rather disturbing visual. The bell sounds and Rhino charges forward, catching Grenier as he tries to bail at the last minute. A clubbing forearm from the former Motor City Heavyweight Champion sends the ****y French-Canadian to the mat where he spends the majority of the remaining time in this one. Rhino just pounds on Grenier from pillar to post before hauling off and finishing him for good with the Gore! Gore! Gore! The crowd approves of the quick victory as Rhino pounds on his chest and poses in the corner with their full support of his handy work.

Winner: Rhino

(3:59, C- Rating)

- Finally, it's main event time as the feed cuts to "The Silverback" Mark Henry making his way to the ring in a black and silver singlet. The crowd is bowing to the guy on his way out - does that mean he's over? As Henry stands in the ring, a generic "Royal" sounding theme takes over and Motor City Heavyweight Champion "The Crown Jewel" Jimmy Rave walks out from the back with Prince Nana who stop at the top of the ramp. Nana has a microphone and calls for the music to cut.

Prince Nana:
"Cut tha music! Mark Henry huh, you... BUM huh! You blew a... shall I say... golden opportunity huh? I offered you a chance, yea. A chance to be tha man I was searching for to be the final piece of my Embassy, huh. But'chu... chu BIG BAFOON you! You all brawn but no brain! You coulda been in a great stable! You coulda been with tha best! Jus' look what I have done for Jimmy Rave huh? Before he met me he was living on the streets, yea! Sleeping in his car! An' now... now he's living tha life of luxury! Now he is... a champeon! An' it's all because'a me! All because of Prince Nana! I coulda done the same for you!

"Shut - the - **** - up! *clap* *clap* *clap! clap! clap!*" says the crowd, but Nana doesn't seem to care.

Prince Nana:
"But no! No, you big idiot, you had to care what these peasants think of you, huh? What these penniless fools think of you! Well, Mark Henry, you refused to join us... and now you WILL pay for it, yea! You never turn down an offer from Prince Nana Hahaha!"

Motor City Heavyweight Title Match

"The Silverback" Mark Henry vs "The Crown Jewel" Jimmy Rave© w/ Prince Nana

Rave panders to the crowd to start, and unsurprisingly he doesn't get a very good reaction. Henry does the same and it is well received. Not liking that too much, Rave calls for Mark Henry to "bring it," but as soon as Henry tries to, Jimmy bails to the outside. Henry laughs it off, but you can tell he's pretty annoyed. From ringside, Prince Nana can be heard giving Rave advice. Jimmy stays outside the ring, not really eager to get in there and mix it up with a guy three times his own size, but his hijinks annoy the crowd enough that a "You-Suck-****" chants starts picking up. Henry gets sick of waiting for Rave to come in so he leaves the ring and goes to get himself some. As he rounds the corner, Rave begins running away. Henry gives chase and they go around a couple times until Nana cuts Mark off and begins shouting in the face of "The Silverback." Henry grabs Nana's throat and threatens to clean his clock, but is smashed with a chair by Rave. He goes down to a knee, and three more chairshots follow with Rave not giving a **** where they land. He thrusts Henry into the ring and delivers a huge 450 splash from the top rope. Instead of going for the cover though, Rave poses in the center of the ring instead. Big mistake. That gives Mark enough time to get back to his feet and get his hands on "The Crown Jewel." The rest of the match sees Jimmy bumping his ass off for the lethargic Henry who looks as if he's going to capture the title - but things change when Prince Nana jumps onto the apron once again. When Henry goes to take care of him, he's blinded instead as Nana throws powder into the eyes of "The Silverback!" Shaggy 2 Dope asks who in the hell carries around baby powder with them, and Violent J decrees that it is probably the stuff the Prince Nana uses "to powder his vagina." These guys bring a new level of class to commentating ladies and gents. Henry stumbles backwards and right into a rollup from Rave who scores the three before Henry powers out a second too late. The crowd doesn't like that at all.

Winner: Jimmy Rave
(retains Heavyweight Title)

(8:57, C- Rating)

- Celebrating the huge pinfall victory, Rave is handed the championship and he ecstatically celebrates with it . What he doesn't see though is Prince Nana who attempts to get his attention, because a pissed off Mark Henry, with powder smeared all over his face is back to his feet. Henry roars in anger before almost taking off Rave's head with a short lariat. Henry picks Rave up and lifts him high over his head with a military press as Prince Nana gets up onto the apron and begs him to stop. Henry obliges, dropping Rave the hard way belly first to the canvas and then grabbing Nana by the throat and then decking him with a hard right! With an angered scowl, Henry sees Rave lying on his back and hits the ropes before putting the exclamation point on things with a huge splash that squashes the Heavyweight Champion! The final shot of the show sees a flattened Jimmy Rave lying on the mat as "The Silverback" heads to the back.

NWA Motor City on DVD vol. #2

F*ck The World

TAPED Saturday Wk3 Jan 2010

Hatchetman Arena - Detroit Michigan

- The National Wrestling Alliance urges everyone, "Please Don't Try This at Home." Motor City warns that trying it would really **** your **** up.

- We open up backstage where Motor City Heavyweight Champion Jimmy Rave is seated on a sofa. He's shirtless, and lacing his boots as the championship belt lies on the coffee table before him. Prince Nana walks into the room, and in a very uneasy tone, Rave asks his manager if he's "figured things out." Grinning from ear to ear, Nana assures Rave that there is nothing to worry about tonight when he once again defends the strap against "The Silverback" Mark Henry. In fact, he hints that if all goes "according to plan," the "pieces will finally come together." This news seemingly calms the champion down as Rave smiles and quips, "I guess money CAN buy anything."

TV Title Match

"The Canadian Destroyer" Petey Williams vs. "Dr. Love" Rhett Titus

Straight to in ring action to start things off, which is seemingly a custom on this tour. Since the Motor City Television Title is on the line, the customary fifteen minute time limit is in effect. Titus is outclassed in the early going on almost every exchange by Williams, who is in fine form here. They chain wrestle for the most part until finally, "Dr. Love" realizes that his technical skills are far surpassed by "The Canadian Destroyer," so Rhett resorts to weaponry. Stop signs, cake tins, and a crutch are worked in - but Rhett can't keep Williams down for the count. Petey makes his big comeback complete with flashy high-flying moves. However, with just minutes left to the match Titus tries to stall and waste time. It doesn't work and much to the crowd's delight - Petey Williams plants Rhett Titus with The Canadian Destroyer! That's enough for the three count (with a mere three seconds left in the bout), and "Dr. Love" might just need to see a real doctor after losing his most prized possession.

Winner: Petey Williams
(wins TV Title)

- Following that, Tech N9ne's "I'm a Playa" brings out a familiar face to many as former TWE Superstar and TWE Tough Enough winner Maven Huffman steps through the curtain wearing red trunks, a track jacket with, and shades. Dressed as if he's ready for action, Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent J question "what the ****" he's doing out here. That question is soon answered as Maven grabs a microphone, and with a smug expression, informs everyone that they're looking at Motor City's newest and brightest "Superstar." Just saying the word "superstar" instead of wrestler is enough to piss off a few of the vocal members of the crowd. Maven proceeds to bag on the company, saying that not only is he the latest signing - but by default, Motor City's "Franchise Player." How is that? Because according to him, he's "banked more moneyworking under the bright lights up north." This pisses people off. So, according to Maven, he finished his dates with TWE (ie. he was released last spring) and took a huge paycut out of the kindness of his heart to come to NWA:MC and show the fans what a "real athlete" is. Because, he claims, that when he watched Riot Prevention Act from ringside he was sickened by how low the bar was set. All of this "hardcore, extreme, violent garbage" is just a crutch used by slobs, broken down has-beens, and never will be's who "can't get over on their god given talent." But all of that doesn't matter anymore - because now - NOW the fans of Motor City had a real athlete they could cheer for.

Maven Huffman vs. "Amazing" N8 Mattson w/ Zach Gowen

Short and simple, this one sees Maven bully around the more experienced member of Team 3 1/2 legs with his size and strength advantage and more brawl based approach. Amazing N8 plays his role well - absorbing the punishment Maven dishes out, and hitting some of his own signature moves including a top rope moonsault. However, its Maven who comes out of this one looking strong as he obliterates Amazing N8 with a modified Muscle Buster and picks up his first win in NWA:MC.

Winner: Maven Huffman

(7:44, D Rating)

- After the match, Zach Gowen gets into the ring and checks on his partner. As he kneels next to him, Maven grabs hold of Gowen's prosthetic leg, rips it off, and throws it across the ring! When Zach Gowen hops up and confronts Maven, the former TWE Superstar hauls off and kicks Zach's leg out from under him - torquing his knee the wrong way! Gowen writhes in pain on the mat, holding his only leg as Maven laughs and then reaches into his track jacket. Pulling out a cigar, he lights up and places it in his mouth before blowing out a huge ring of smoke and laughing as he leaves the ring.

Trent Acid vs "The Murder City Killing Machine" Rhino

I was expecting this to pretty much be a squash match in the same vein as Sylvain/Rhino from volume one. Boy was I wrong. Trent Acid ducks and dives Rhino's attempts to grab hold of him in the early going - smartly using his speed to make up for what he lacks in power when compared to Rhino. Rhino gets the upperhand when he catches Acid who attempts to deliver a flying cross body. After smashing Acid back first against the ring post, "The Murder City Killing Machine" flips his lid and busts out the weaponry - lacing Acid with shots from a kendo stick. Not a five star match by any means, this is still quite a fun affair. The end comes as Rhino reverses Trent's attempt to deliver a Frankensteiner from the top and instead plants him with a piledriver from the middle turnbuckle! Acid is dead, and Rhino hooks the leg for the pin.

Winner: Rhino

(8:56, C Rating)

- Sylvain Grenier is back at it, this time backstage as he's interviewed by Todd Grisham. "Earlier today" is marked in the corner of the screen. Sylvain doesn't want to talk about his match with Rhino, and instead wants to discuss "style and fashion." Here we go again. Did you know that Sylvain used to be a model? Well he reminds us here. Thankfully, he doesn't get to talk much as he's interrupted by Kenny King who walks into the frame smiling. King takes off his white sunglasses, and tells Sylvain that the French-Canadian has a "Queer Eye" alright, his just doesn't pertain to fashion. Sylvain takes offence, and challenges King to a match - one that "The Pretty Boy Pitbull" happily accepts.

( E Rating)

"The Pretty Boy Pitbull" Kenny King vs. "The Sexiest Man Alive" Sylvain Grenier

Unlike at Riot Prevention Act, this bout lets us know a little bit more about what Sylvain can do in the ring. Solid, if not spectacular, Grenier fares pretty well in the opening moments with a mat based approach. He chokes King out on the ropes and tries to ground the spotty former two time Television Champion - but King does eventually get free and manage his own offensive attack. In the end, Sylvain's attempt at a rope assisted DDT is countered, and King connects with a Missile Dropkick that guarantees him the pinfall victory.

Winner: Kenny King

- Following that, the fans in the arena get a special treat as former Real World and reality television star
Trishelle Canatella
is in the house, and has decided to show off the goods. She has a t-shirt gun, and is dressed in a revealing red & patriotic red, white, and blue bikini on. After blasting a half dozen Psychopathic Records tees into the crowd, the exhibitionist in her decides that wasn't enough for the fans. So she then decides to do a little strip tease. But it's cut short when some really ****ty house produced hard rock music hits, and the two masked dudes that attacked Jim Duggan at Riot Prevention Act come out. Yeah, this isn't going to be pretty. They get into the ring where Trishelle quickly ties her top back up, and looks frightened. Fear was the correct response, because after the two men stare her down, the bigger of the two grabs her by the head and rips her down to her knees in front of him! The crowd, being the sick ****s they are, cheer at the sight of the infamous position. However, it isn't forced oral stimulation that ensues, but a big sit-down powerbomb to the reality tv star instead! The fans boo the outcome, though I presume because they didn't get to see the kind of action they'd hoped for... filthy bastards.

(F Rating)

- The duo of Danny Doring and Roadkill are in the ring next, and Roadkill is angrily pacing back and forth in the ring. "Dastardly" Danny has a microphone and calls out CW Anderson, and tells him to bring his "boyfriend" with him. He's of course referring to Angel Orsini. Orsini comesout, with Anderson and the lethargic SNUFF behind her. Orsini informs Doring that he couldn't handle her in the sack, because only a real man like CW Anderson can. Doring gags. Angel says if it's a fight he's looking for, then Doring better step aside because he was already proven to be no match for CW. She has a better idea, saying she'd allow CW Anderson to end Dorings mysery and take out "the fat ass retard" standing behind him in the ring so that Danny wouldn't have to drag him around in public anymore. Well that's certainly not politically correct. Roadkill angrily rips the microphone out of his partner's hands and screams "CHIIIIIIIICCCCKKKKENNNSSSS!!!!" I take it that means he accepts the challenge.

(C-Rating)

Roadkill w/ "Dastardly" Danny Doring vs. "Mr. Personality" CW Anderson w/ Angel Orsini and SNUFF

Unlike Doring, Roadkill has the strength advantage over CW Anderson and uses it to unload his anger. Backing CW into the corner, Roadkill hits a running Avalanch and then a sidewalk slam that nearly gets the three count off the bat! The "Angry Amish Warrior" looks quite impressive for the most part, but leave it to Orsini to get involved, distracting the big man by getting onto the ring apron. What she doesn't expect however is for Doring to sneak up behind her and pull her track pants down to her ankles. Danny jokingly gags and pretends to throw up as Orsini jumps down and rips her pants back up. Doring's not laughing for long though as SNUFF comes charging and nearly takes his head off with a big boot! This proves to be the distraction Anderson needs as he tosses Roadkill into the ropes, and impressively plants the big man with the spinebuster! That's all she wrote.

(9:21, C- Rating)

- After the bell, SNUFF comes into the ring and waits for Roadkill to get to his feet. When he does, he plants with with a Big Boot as well for good measure. A still groggy Doring tries to come in and defend his friend, but is met by stiff rights from CW Anderson who sends "The Dastardly One" into the ropes. Doring ducks a clothesline, and bounces off the adjacent ropes only to run straight into a NASTY spinebuster! Orsini, SNUFF, and CW join hands in the center of the ring - looking quite proud of themselves.

NWA Motor City Heavyweight Title Match

"The Crown Jewel" Jimmy Rave w/ Prince Nana vs. "The Silverback" Mark Henry

Main Event time, and it's pretty much the same story we saw from Riot Prevention Act with Henry dominating Rave with his raw and unmatched strength, while "The Crown Jewel" bumps his ass off. Trusting that his manager does indeed have a plan, we see a much less chicken **** Jimmy Rave who instead stays in the ring and takes his beating well. Henry is more than happy to oblige as he squashes the champion with an Oklahoma Slam and big legdrop that nearly finishes Rave off. With the end near, following a military press slam "The Silverback" calls for the big splash but out of nowhere he is hit with... THE POUNCE! Monty Brown hits the ring and shoulder blocks the piss right out of Mark Henry! The clowns claim we haven't seen Monty in nearly six months due to a torn abdomen. Nana hands Monty a purple sack, the contents of which are dumped out - revealing them to be hundreds and hundreds of thumbtacks! Henry gets to his feet, and Monty hits the ropes before once again landing The Pounce on "The Silverback" - right into the tacks. Henry writhes in pain as Jimmy Rave comes off the top rope with a Frog Splash and gets the pin! Nana's promise rings true, and Rave is once again leaving a Motor City event as the Heavyweight Champion.

(8:58. C Rating)

- As Mark Henry rolls out of the ring looking like a human pin coushion, Monty Brown returns to the ring as Prince Nana grabs Rave's Heavyweight Title and does the same. The three men then join hands in the center of the ring, appearantly Brown is the man Prince Nana has been searching for, and the newest member of The Embassy. The closing line of the show claims that Monty Brown will have "hell to mother****ing pay" for his actions here at F*CK The World.

Good couple shows. Motor City is easily my favorite Idom promotion. Just a couple things:

Firstly, the Petey Williams TV title win. It was by pinfall...in a ladder match? :p

Second, can we PLEASE get more ICP commentary in the cards? The commentary was really the only saving grace of the three JCW dvd's that I bought. Don't judge me. :\

Oops, the ladder match was a typo - and is actually going to be on the card for Lightin' **** Up. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm working on more ICP commentary - I've watched a lot of their SLAM! TV shows on Youtube before I started writing this to try and get a feel for them. It's fun because you can get as filthy as you want and not worry about the consequences.

NWA Motor City on DVD Vol. #3

Lightin' **** Up

TAPED Friday Wk 4 Jan 2010

Hatchetman Arena - Detroit Michigan

- Once again, "Please don't Try This at Home." Especially on a DVD that promises "Flaming F'n Tables." Mommy and daddy aren't going to be happy when you light the dining room table on fire. Trust me.

- The opening video package airs to kick things off. Nothing has changed.

- Instead of kicking off with in ring action, its a slight change of pace as we're "ringside" (*cough* - greenscreen) with
The Insane Clown Posse
. Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope discuss Monty Brown's impactful return to NWA Motor City, and his newly forged alliance with Prince Nana and Heavyweight Champion "The Crown Jewel" Jimmy Rave. Like only Violent J can put it in regards to Monty Brown and Jimmy Rave, "If they can stop liking each other's *******s long enough," they'll meet the team of "The Silverback" Mark Henry and "The Murder City Killing Machine" Rhino in a Flaming Tables match in the night's main event.

TV Title Ladder Match

"The Canadian Destroyer" Petey Williams vs. "Dr. Love" Rhett Titus

From there it was straight to in ring action as new Motor City TV Champion Petey Williams looks to defend the strap against the former Champion Rhett Titus in a ladder match. I have to be honest here, we're three volumes in yet and I have yet to hear either of these guys speak once. Where the **** is their microphone time? I see they're trying to push the TV Title division as an in-ring action first type of thing but in a promotion where characters are running rampant I feel neither of these guys have shown anything character wise. Moving on, this one starts out fast and furious and it isn't very long before the ladder comes into play. Titus slows down Williams pace and pulls a page out of the great Terry Funk's book as he places the ladder over his shoulders and spins - knocking the TV Champion for a loop as the ladder becomes a weapon that clubs Williams' skull. Lots of fun little spots are hit in this one, including Williams' teasing to a Canadian Destroyer from the Ladder only for Titus to back body drop him off. That would have been sick. I don't even know if it physically is possible, but that would have been awesome. With the TV Title fifteen minute time limit in effect, the end comes with both guys scrambling to the top of the ladder. Williams and Titus battle it out, with Petey maneuvering enough to hit a bulldog from the top of the ladder! He slowly climbs up and snatches the title, chalking up a first successful defense.

Winner: Petey Williams
(retains TV Title)

(13:13, C- Rating)

- Following that, Maven Huffman is in the ring. He takes off his shades, and track jacket before grabbing a microphone. Dressed and ready for action, Maven claims once again that he is Motor City's new franchise player. He warns that Team 3 1/2 Legs were just the first to get a taste of how a real athlete performs, but there will be many more. Because, he says, it is his unrelentless mission to "save" Motor City from the filth that they've come to expect. He gets pretty damn good heat here too. Who knew that this guy, who spent his entire TWE run as an all-smiles, gee-golly babyface had this in him?

(C- Rating)

Chucky Blaze vs. Maven Huffman

Maven's opponent is former Hart Family Dungeon graduate Chucky Blaze, who is dressed in gear reminiscent of Chucky from the "Child's Play" series of horror films - in complete "Good Guy Doll" garb. Seriously, and he makes a pretty convincing "Chucky" with his red hair standing up all crazy, rainbow striped undershirt, and blood stained blue overalls. Saddly, his attire is the most entertaining part of his debut here, as it's eight minutes of all-Maven driven action before the former Tough Enough winner puts the little guy down with a Muscle Buster. After scoring the fall, Maven just shakes his head and arrogantly brushes himself off before heading to the back.

Winner: Maven Huffman

(8:16, D Rating)

- "She's a dude! She's a dude! She's a dude!" is the chant echoing through the arena as the DVD cuts to Angel Orsini, CW Anderson, and SNUFF standing in the ring. Orsini scowls at the sounds of the less than flattering chants before getting on the microphone and calling out The Odd Couple, Doring and Roadkill. She puts over the fact that CW Anderson has already beaten the two of them one on one, yet here tonight Doring and Roadkill have challenged them to a tag team match. Orsini claim that she knew Roadkill was "dumber than a box of rocks," but thought Doring knew better than to keep this going. Disturbed's "Down With The Sickness" plays, and The Odd Couple make their way out. From the top of the entranceway, Doring insults Orsini's femininity and calls Anderson a "fudge packer" since he's dating "the thing." Long story short, Doring says that he's tired of listening to Orsini's **** - and says that come hell or high water he and Roadkill will "shut her ****ing mouth for good."

(C- Rating)

The Odd Couple (Danny Doring & Roadkill) vs. CW Anderson & SNUFF w/ Angel Orsini

Doring and Roadkill run down the aisle and slide into the ring - right into the awaiting SNUFF and CW Anderson who swing wildly to start it things out with a wild brawl. Roadkill gets the best of CW Anderson, and sends him into the ropes before delivering a spine shattering sidewalk slam! Anderson rolls to the outside where Orsini screams at him to get back up. Meanwhile Doring and Roadkill use the time to double team the masked big man SNUFF and hit a double vertical suplex. The Odd Couple control the pace of the match, quickly taking it to Anderson and SNUFF who never really are able to get into sync. That is, until Angel Orsini makes her presence felt and becomes an integral part of the match ending as she delivers a low blow to Danny Doring as CW Anderson and Roadkill brawl on the outside. From there, with Doring holding his junk, he became easy prey to a running bicycle kick from SNUFF who proceeds to make the cover and pick up the three count. Once again, it's Angel Orsini's presence at ringside that sends Doring and Roadkill home losers.

Winners: CW Anderson & SNUFF

(14:51, C Rating)

- Motor City Tag Team Champions Jon Davis and Kory Chavis, collectively known as The Dark City Fight Club are in the ring next. Chavis has a microphone, and boasts that they are the most feared team in all of Detroit - if not the entire NWA. And if you don't believe them, you might want to look at their undefeated record. They weren't scheduled to compete tonight, but they're not just going to sit around. So they're sending out an open challenge here tonight to any team in the building... with the titles on the line.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v508/IrWrestler86/nastys.jpg

Oh God, are you serious? Sure enough, out walk Nastyville's favorite sons, Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags. While Sags looks to be in decent shape, Knobbs looks like a dead ringer for Butterbean - if the famed boxer were to sport blond mullet. The Nasty Boyz carry trash cans full of weapons, so hey the worst we can get here is a change of pace from DCFC standard squashes. Right? Maybe?

Motor City Tag Team Title Match

Dark City Fight Club vs. The Nasty Boyz

Nastys get in the ring, and dump their weaponry all over the mat as DCFC hand over their titles. The bell sounds and it appears as if this one is going to be under tornado tag match rules as a big brawl starts off with The Nasty Boyz looking both stiff and sloppy from the get go. I'd be lying if I said this one was pretty. Knobbs and Saggs look gassed about four minutes into it, and resort to the weaponry. They crash the garbage cans over the heads of both Chavis and Davis, who roll out and regroup. Honestly I think they actually rolled out to let Knobbs and Sags have a breather. After some more ugly brawling, The Nastys look to end it with The Trip To Nastyville as Knobbs delivers a Running Powerslam to Davis, and Sags climbs to the top. He doesn't get to though as Kory Chavis knocks him off the apron and then spears Knobbs. Jon Davis regroups and a Powerbomb and Cutter combination thankfully finishes things off and hopefully sends Knobbs and Sags back to Nastyville for good.

Winners: The Dark City Fight Club
(retain Tag Team Titles)

- After that, footage airs showing the two masked men who have been making in impact in Motor City with their actions as of late. They stand with heir backs to the camera, and as it pans out it reveals their actions. In an alleyway, the two men are relieving themselves - right on "Old Glory," Jim Duggan's trusty US flag that now lies in a pissy puddle on the street! As they finish their "bathroom break," Shaggy 2 Dope reveals that these guys call themselves "The UNPatRioTs,"
BenaDicK
and
ArNadZ
. They hate America, and they hate you! Oh, I see what they did there. Why not just call them **** & Balls?

The Human Tornado w/ Candice LeRae vs Trent Acid

Two of the TV Title's best go at it in this one, with both men needing to get a "w" and restore some momentum after going winless in the first two volumes so far. Candice Lerae and Human Tornado dance in the ring, but Trent Acid isn't in a good mood and stops their good time by dropkicking Tornado straight to the outside. He follows him out and roughs up the crowd favorite - sending The Human Tornado ribcage first against the unforgiving steel barricade that separates them from the fans. Acid dominates Tornado in the early going, but Tornado's unorthadox style allows him to make the big comeback. He hits his signature spots, including the Pimp Slap before trying to put Acid away with the DND. Acid counters though, and delivers a stiff shortarm clothesline that Tornado oversells by
backflipping and doing the worm
! It gets a good reaction from the crowd, but it doesn't make Trent Acid too happy as he pulls Tornado to his feet and plants him with an inverted piledriver! With Tornado in perfect position, Acid climbs to the top rope and delivers a Phoenix Splash that ensures the victory via pinfall and in turn Trent picks up an important win.

Winner: Trent Acid

- Finally, Main event time comes and a ****ty classical theme brings out The Embassy, Prince Nana, Monty Brown, and Motor City Heavyweight Champion Jimmy Rave. Once in the ring, Prince Nana grabs a microphone and gloats that he has finally found "the missing piece," the man he has been searching for to make his Embassy as dangerous as he promised. Nana says that Mark Henry never saw it coming when Monty Brown delivered The Pounce that cost him yet another chance at being Motor City Heavyweight Champion. Nana speaks directly to Henry as he claims that he promised "The Silverback" would pay for turning down his offer to join The Embassy - and that's exactly what happened. After an arrogant chuckle, he hands the microphone off to Monty Brown who is all smiles. He tells the fans that he doesn't want to hear their "bitch ass complaints or questions" about why he "turned his back." Monty claims he didn't turn his back on anyone, in fact it was everyone else who turned their backs on him. According to Brown, for ten years he had been busting his ass in Detroit and going out of his way to send the fans home happy - at any cost. Well, Brown asks, where has that gotten him? Where are his Heavyweight Title Shots? Where are his big match bonuses? What has his "mentor" and "trainer," Sabu ever done for him? And lastly, where were the fans when Monty was spending six months on the sidelines with a nasty abdominal tear. In Brown's eyes, they had forgotten about him in favor of Mark Henry - in favor of Rhino - in favor of ANYONE else. Well, that's all changed according to the former NFL player as Brown says he's looking out for "number one." It started at F*CK The World - and it continues tonight when he sends one of their newfound heroes through a "flaming ****in' table."

Flaming Tables Match

The Embassy ("Alpha Male" Monty Brown & "The Crown Jewel" Jimmy Rave w/ Prince Nana) vs. Rhino and "The Silverback" Mark Henry

As Brown finishes his promo, Mark Henry and Rhino head through the curtain. While "The Silverback" looks pissed off, Rhino's smiles and displays a bottle of lighter fluid gripped in his hand. The bell sounds as they enter the squared circle and the **** hits the fan immediately. This one is stiff, with Rave bumping his ass of (as usual.) Brown and Henry make an interesting clash of power, and spend the majority of the bout going after one another. Considering Monty cost him the title last month, it's no surprise. Meanwhile Rhino tosses Rave around like a ragdoll, giving further fuel to the fire that he doesn't deserve to be on top of the card. I'd have to disagree there though. Rave's bumping works wonders to put these hulking bastards over. After an avalanche from Mark Henry in the corner, Monty Brown collapses to the outside - thus leaving Jimmy Rave as easy pray to both Henry and Rhino. Rhino sets a table up against the corner, and sprays the fluid all over it. After dropping a match, the table is ablaze and Henry delivers a nasty slam to Rave - taking the what fight was left out of him. Mark picks Rave up, and holds him in front of the burning table as Rhino gets into the corner and calls for The Gore! He hauls off and charges - only for Prince Nana to sacrifice himself and jump into Rhino's path - taking the full brunt of the Gore! Henry drops Rave, and looks to go toward Nana - but he doesn't have enough time as Monty Brown charges and delivers a Pounce - knocking "The Silverback" straight into the burning wood!

Winner: Monty Brown & Jimmy Rave

- As the bell sounds, Henry rolls out of the ring and some ring crew members quickly toss a blanket over him to put out the flames. The camera cuts quickly back to the ring where Monty Brown connects with a running knee to Rhino, and then proceeds to kick the **** out of him. With Nana lying on the mat, Rave joins into the beatdown as he and Brown stomp "The Murder City Killing Machine." However, before they're able to take it too far... The lights go out! The fans are abuzz, because when they come back on, Sabu is standing in the center of the ring. With one hand he points toward the ceiling, while the other clenches a steel chair - one that the "Suicidal Maniac" quickly tosses straight against the face of Jimmy Rave! As Rave goes down in a heap, Monty Brown snaps his head around and snarls at his former mentor and teacher who awaits his attack. Brown and Sabu stare one another down, but Monty eventually rethinks things and rolls out of the ring. With Sabu staring at Monty and calling for him to come back in, Rave and Nana defeatedly join Brown at the bottom of the rampway. Meanwhile, the show fades to black with the fans chanting Sabu's name.
