nokona Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Louisville ball, Q1, 4-4-RUT30 (05:32) 0-0 Arnold Egu misses the 48 yard field goal. It will be Rutgers ball at the RUT 30 Holding against SS Kendal Profit on Rutgers. The Penalty is for 10 yards, and an automatic first down. The Offense will accept the penalty. It is now First and 10 at the Rutgers 20.
mauboy Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Are you trying to imply that something is wrong here? I do believe I recall this happening earlier this season in the NFL. Gosh, I can't remember the team, the Saints? Anyhoo, they were called on holding on the defense after the kicker missed the field goal in the final seconds of the game. He made it on the 2nd try. Coach mad. Game over.
nokona Posted December 9, 2005 Author Posted December 9, 2005 Don't think holding is the call The play your thinking of is where defender grabs a lineman and pulls him to open a lane. Don't know if that is called defensive holding on a kick. if it is then I guess this isn't a problem
SkyDog Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Yes, it is called defensive holding on a kick, and it directly impacted the outcome of an NFL game this year. The Falcons missed a game-winning FG as time expired, but a Saints player grabbed a lineman and pulled him to open up space for a block attempt. He got called for def-holding, and the Falcons got to kick it again, and made it for the win.
