April 4, 2001...

If you seen this coming...you're a damn liar.

Taking a stroll down my cobblestone driveway I held my hand up to glare the LA sun from eyes as I went down to get the mail. I had absolutely no idea what was to greet my eyes this morning, sure I expected the normal bill or random advertisement promoting some sort of useless piece of garbage that I wouldn't need. But I quite the surprise.

"Let's see...what we got here?"

"Junk..."

"Junk..."

"More Junk..."

"Bill..."

"Bill..."

"The Wrestling Observer..."

This was surprising, I never ordered any issues of The Wrestling Observer, someone must've dropped it off in my mailbox, knowing that I'd probably want to read it. While walking back up the driveway, I quickly looked at the headline, and immediately I chuckled at the coverage on my accomplishment...

'WCW Buyout! Who's the new owner?! Read WO's EXCLUSIVE Interview!'

After bringing in the daily mail I plopped down in my balcony overlooking the Santa Monica Mountains and then flipped open the magazine to the cover story...

Meet Preston Scott, Entrepreneur, Tycoon, WCW Owner

By Dave Meltzer

Last week, World Championship Wrestling was pronounced dead in the wrestling world, the #2 promotion in the world finally went under due to lack of financial backing, as Ted Turner left the company. If then you were thinking that there might still be hope with the creative genious of Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo behind the scenes, you're wrong, both Bischoff and Russo both left WCW. Which then jumpstarted the rumor mill, with everyone believing that WWF Chairman Vince McMahon had acquired World Championship Wrestling himself, and with his son Shane proclaiming the announcement on Monday Night RAW, it seemed that this was most likely the case.

Well, it's not.

Meet Preston Scott, self-made tycoon in the oil business and owner of Scott & Mason Oil CO, the new owner of World Championship Wrestling. Out of anybody that anyone could possible think of of taking over a wrestling promotion. Scott would be pretty much on the ass-end of the list. So how did this entrepreneur acquire WCW? More importantly, why would he acquire WCW? I sat down with Mr. Scott in an exclusive interview for The Wrestling Observer.

DM: So I heard that you were a big fan of wrestling in the 80's?

PS: Absolutely, when I wasn't focused on running my operation back in Texas, I'd be pretty much watching or reading up on professional wrestling back in it's heyday.

DM: Any promotions or wrestlers that you'd follow?

PS: To be honest, I never really followed the Federation and Vince's new Sports-Entertainment style, I was a fan of classic wrestling, such as the Jim Crockett Promotions and AWA. I was a big Steamboat fan, not to mention Ric Flair and Roddy Piper. I didn't need people telling storylines outside of the ring and into a microphone, I also enjoyed watching people tell stories in the ring.

DM: Is this the direction you'd want to re-push WCW? More wrestling, less talking?

PS: That'd be my ideal idea, my vision for WCW is for it to re-become the top promotion in the whole world, and I don't feel that having stupid gimmicks and crap storylines would really get us there.

DM: So it'd be more of a realistic-style promotion? No 'Shockmaster'?

PS: That's right, no stupid gimmicks.

DM: So without backing without Ted Turner, who's been in the running to have WCW broudcast on Television?

PS: We've been working on deals with such stations as Bravo! and E!, but only time will tell to see if we've gotten those deals.

DM: Any word on the current WCW roster? Has anyone left?

PS: Some old workers for WCW immediately left after they heard the company was going under, but we've managed to retain a couple, even add a couple of surprise faces.

DM: Any word on who?

PS: I'll let you all figure that on the first new episode of Monday Night Nitro.

DM: MNN's coming back? Am I smelling a rebirth of the Monday Night Wars?

PS: No, we'd know that while taking babysteps out of the new formation of the company that we'd get dominated in a head-to-head war with WWF. So, we're aiming for a later timeslot.

DM: By we...who else do you mean?

PS: The two men who helped me acquire WCW, Ricky Steamboat and Ric Flair, those two will help our new head booker (who'll be announced next week in a press conference) with the booking decision for the new company.

DM: Well certainly I'd like to wish you good luck on your mission to resurrect WCW.

PS: Thank you.

I cracked a smile and then laid down the newsletter, I then went to go freshen up for my upcoming press conference to announce World Championship Wrestling's new head booker.

On Bravo!

Scheduled to be held live in Milwaukee, WI.

And we thought Booker T v Shawn Michaels for the World Heavyweight Championship was already a big matchup, well these two men are both going to have another variable thrown into that match, in the shape of another opponent, the United States Champion Rhino! The main event for tonight doesn't feature Rhino, but he just might make an appearance in Sting & Booker T v Goldberg & Shawn Michaels. Also scheduled to take place tonight is a 6-way 'King Of The Hill' match to find out who goes to WrekCage the #1 Contender to the Cruiserweight Championship, the way the KotH match works is 6 men enter and 3 are left remaining, whoever eliminates an opponent is guarenteed a spot in a 6-Way Ladder Match at WrekCage for the Cruiserweight Title. We've also got a preview of the WCW World Tag Team Title match at WrekCage when the Dragons take on the Natural Born Thrillers tonight! It's certainly looking to be an exciting card, and we hope you all get to enjoy it! Watch Nitro live on Bravo! this Monday at 10PM EST/9PM CST!

'King Of The Hill Match for the #1 Contendership to the Cruiserweight Championship'

Billy Kidman v AJ Styles v Psicosis v Chavo Guerrero Jr v Elix Skipper v Jamie Noble

WCW is trying another innovative match concept this week on Nitro. One week before an all steel-cage PPV, WCW has invented the King Of The Hill Match! Where six participants will enter the ring and three will be eliminated, the three who caused the eliminations will thus earn themselves a spot in the Six-Way Cruiserweight Championship Ladder Match at WrekCage. The six participants this week are Billy Kidman, who fought WCW Cruiserweight Champ Shane Helms at the Bash at the Beach and came up short. AJ Styles, the young rookie who's looking to earn his shot at gold and stardom. Psicosis, the new last-minute acquisition who's a former WCW Cruiserweight himself. Chavo Guerrero Jr, the youngest of the legendary Guerrero Wrestling family who wants gold to himself. Elix Skipper, a young hot-shot who's looking for his chance. And Jamie Noble, a man who will stop at nothing to get his chance at winning gold. Who will win and head to WrekCage to fight for the Cruiserweight Championship? Find out by watching the first match of it's kind this Monday only on Nitro!

'Non-Title'

Lex Luger v Rhino

http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww215/WCW_legacy/LexLuger.jpg v http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww215/WCW_legacy/Rhino.jpg

Two men who are scheduled to participate in different matches at WrekCage will clash tonight in a non-title matchup, with Lex Luger (who will take on Buff Bagwell in a 'Loser Leaves WCW' match) taking on Rhino (who will participate in a triple-threat for the World Heavyweight Championship). The main question about this match is if anyone will interfere, with either Buff Bagwell or maybe Booker T and Shawn Michaels coming to the ring to get in these two's heads. But we're pretty sure that they'll both be completely focused on each other in this one. In what is sure to be a showcase of both of these men's powerful fighting styles, who will prevail? Luger or Rhino? Find out by tuning in to Nitro this Monday on Bravo!

'Non-Title'

The Natural Born Thrillers v The Dragons

http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww215/WCW_legacy/ChuckPalumbo.jpghttp://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww215/WCW_legacy/SeanOHaire.jpg v http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww215/WCW_legacy/YoshihiroTajiri.jpghttp://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww215/WCW_legacy/UltimoDragon.jpg

13 Days before these two teams clash for the NBT's WCW World Tag Team Championships, we will see a bit of a preview match between these two teams. With The Dragons attacking the NBTs for the past two weeks, Palumbo & O'Haire are hellbent on trying to get their revenge. But have The Dragons gotten into their head? Speaking of The Dragons, they had their debut match on the WCW Saturday Night Webcast, which had them picking up a victory over AJ Styles & Norman Smiley, but did that make them ready enough for the NBTs? Find out on Nitro this Monday, only on Bravo!

Hugh Morris v Lance Storm

http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww215/WCW_legacy/HughMorris.jpg v http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww215/WCW_legacy/LanceStorm.jpg

Lance Storm went straight to WCW Management to request this match, although apparently it's not for any personal reasons with Morris. Why did Storm request this match against Morris then? WCW.com tried getting the scoop from Storm but he was unavailable for comment. In what's sure to be an exciting bout, tune in to Nitro this Monday only on Bravo at 10PM EST/9PM CST!

Booker T & Sting v Shawn Michaels & Goldberg

http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww215/WCW_legacy/BookerT.jpghttp://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww215/WCW_legacy/Sting.jpg v http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww215/WCW_legacy/ShawnMichaels.jpghttp://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww215/WCW_legacy/Goldberg.jpg

Just as Sting v Goldberg II was billed at the Bash at the Beach, this main event should be dubbed 'Clash of the Titans.' These two teams' consist of partners that will face each other at WrekCage, with Booker T set to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Shawn Michaels and Rhino (who isn't participating in this match), while Sting will take on Goldberg for the #1 Contendership to the World Heavyweight Championship. All four of these men have a lot of history together and are sure to have an absolutely unforgettable match. And an important note to make is if these teams will even get along together, as whoever wins between Booker T and Shawn Michaels will have to face either Goldberg or Sting. Should be on hell of match, so be sure to watch it on Nitro this Monday at 10PM EST/9PM CST!

Prediction List

-------------------

Billy Kidman v AJ Styles v Psicosis v Chavo Guerrero Jr v Elix Skipper v Jamie Noble - (Pick 3) - King Of The Hill

Lex Luger v Rhino - Nontitle

The Natural Born Thrillers v The Dragons - Nontitle

Booker T & Sting v Shawn Michaels & Goldberg

Might be worth reading through the old thread to get where this thing's at at the moment.
