did anyone elses post count just drop through the floor?

I swear My post count was just shy of 4,000 averaging just under 1.7 per day.

I took a look today, and I am just shy of 3,000 averaging just under 1.3 per day.

is it just me or did any one else notice this?

Posts haven't counted in the mafia section...since the sub forum was made...

thats not true, they counted after it got it's sub forum. they did not count, and still don't here in the dog pound.

I could see that being a reasonable answer. would reduce the strain on the server when counting each members total posts. (not sure how it's done, but if it is dynamiclly recounted every so often, or worse, ever time it's looked up, that would be a major load off)

Mistaken, you're mistaken. :p

There are several long term mafia players who have 0 posts as posts down there don't count. For some reason though there are some old games whose posts do actually count still, which is why a handful of older players who don't post much elsewhere have high post counts.

I have no idea how the site counts posts or even why it even bothers really... but I imagine it just adds 1 to a total whenever a post is accepted in a relevant forum. That way it would only ever need to have Mistaken (1 post) and would only change it whenever a post was made, rather than having to go count each time.

So do you know why the post counts dropped?

The entire first page of the members section (arranged by posts) has changed. (I think Adam did it to be top poster). I kid I kid!!

Can't say for sure, but yesterday Adam said something about getting Arlie to do something to help protect against spambots better... I'd guess there was another change in there somewhere that has affected post counts too. But I never pay attention to post counts anyways so it's not something I'd even noticed.

EDIT: Wow, I'm third highest poster behind Adam and Remi. Who woulda thunk it? :)

Didn't you hear? The higher you post count, the more more valid your opinion! :D

Funny some people on this site actually believe this.:D

Also where did all of DJ's posts go? MLT is right he had 11000+ posts and now he is down to 3000.

I'm generally terrified of sites where this sort of thinking is actually true. I've seen places where people just post and spam their way through it all day, not actually contributing anything to any discussions or doing anything of merit... and then jump all over new posters for having opinions on anything because they have no posts. Glad GDS has never been that way. :)

Still scares me how many posts I have... especially when I think about how much I've posted on parts of the sites that don't count or in tech support where threads and posts get deleted once the problem is dealt with. One day, not any time soon though, I'll get a life outside the forums and do something useful. Maybe. :p

Well you've got nearly 3000 posts more than me, so I'll believe what you tell me ;)

Tbh though, at least GDS's forums aren't based on a karma system.

On topic, I haven't noticed any change to my post count, not that I really pay a whole lot of attention to it.

You have been on here a lot longer and created your own mod (A great one at that.) so I shall defer to you. Actually, the reason why my post count is so high is because I pick in a ton of diaries and because of the Kobe mod. If we are going by actual post counts outside of those two areas I would probably have maybe 2,000 posts less.

I personally don't care how many posts I have. :)

Well I do post a lot in areas that don't count posts. :p

Derek is just a chatter box that's all. :D

Do you want some of my posts? I will gladly hand them over if you would like them.:D

Does post count really matter?

It's not the post count that matters, it's how you use your replies.

Adding on to this is the dreaded 'every thread is a derailed thread' phenomenon. Even worse is when it devolves into nothing but baseless baiting, which inevitably leads to insults, at which point, other posters chime in and begin to take sides, which raises post counts, which somehow gives them more clout.

I've seen this kind of pack mentality on other boards, where the more established posters sort of watch each others' backs, and it's severely offputting. Glad that GDS hasn't been like that. In fact, this place has probably been one of the most respectful boards I've ever seen and participated in. Maybe I'm just looking at the wrong places, I dunno .
