The Payne Verse

Start Date: January 2012

Release Date: I'm hoping for Early June

My data has been coming along quite decently since starting this as a bit of a side project last month, so figured I'd actually plan to get it up to a release date. As of now I have 2 American companies and a British company done and while using them in a C-Verse structure they've had the grades I've been expecting and no real glitches so it's a start with those I guess :o But yeah figured I'd use this as a bit of a hype page for what is being planned/been done so far.

I figured this would also be the place to ask a few questions about particular things that are coming up and so on and so forth, anyway the countries:

Country Spotlight:America

America is headlined in it's stronghold of being the best produced Wrestling Industry (a small Average and Rising, the industry as a whole was affected by the economic downturn across the world in the Payne Verse for the past 5 years) by Sports Entertainment International (SEI); an international company owned by the Media Conglomerate (yet to be named, but its along the lines of Fox Broadcasting, bringing family friendly TV across the world). It's two main stars of the promotion are Matty Payne; the man the universe is named after and Jackson Jordan.

Payne is a 30 year old American entertainer who has been with SEI and its feeder companies since the age of 19, coming in a second generation wrestler. It has to be said that Payne's hold at the top of SEI is more to do with his star quality, entertainment skills and name value than anything else but he is still able to go in the ring.

Jackson, on the other hand is a jack*ss. Without a doubt. Banned for life by the AFL for various off and on the field antics in his 4 years as wide reciever for 2 time Pro-Bowl winning team the Arizona Suns, SEI owner Carson Mitchell brought in Jackson as his new star veichle, putting a huge campaign behind "The Bad Boy of Sports Entertainment" without ever really getting him to the required level in ring. If it wasn't for this 240 pounder's athleticism, stamina and charisma, he'd be pretty freaking lousy. Add in his backstage attitude and you have all the makings for the most volatile man in American Wrestling.

A strange concept to come about in the past 10 years but a highly successful one is the second placed company in America, Dynamic Duo Wrestling (DDW); which focuses purely on tag team wrestling all the year round. An unlikely to work concept but one put forward by tag team vetran Tommy "The Body" Roach (one half of the most succesfull tag teams of all time The Models) ended up revitalising Tag Team wrestling for many people. It has two main titles; The World Tag Team Championships and the North American Tag Team Championships as well as one tournament a year, The Golden Tag; in which the winner recieves a grand prize of $15,000 each (combined the 30 is the number of title wins The Model's achieved). Current World Tag Team champions are The Amish Boys; Issac and Jacob Troyer who play a comedic Amish personality, coming out to the ring in a horse and carraige.

Puerto Rico at a glance I thought I should mention will be seen by "internet fans" as the third biggest company in America. It's my intention to get it so that their shows will go out to around 10,000 fans in their home region but they have no intention of traveling anywhere else. Don't know how well that will work so that's the next thing to work on for me for sure.

The overall idea with America is to have at least 20 promotions which would be roughly 2 promotions each region with the exception of Hawaii and Puerto Rico (who's company was mentioned above) although that number will probably get bigger.

Country Spotlight: Mexico

While I haven't got any company names as such right now I do have my ideas for how I want the top of the country to be seen.

The number one company (for now we will call it A) is to be headed up by Rudo "American Made" Sam Lincoln. Lincoln in the past 5 years has been working purely in Mexico as an American hero, everything that Mexico would hate. It is during his feud with the legendary El Ángel, he rips the mask off during a middleweight title fight casuing a riot and getting himself instantly disqualified.

However this wasn't something agreed on by El Ángel. In what was a political power struggle between himself and owner Hector Amirez, the mask was used as a way of getting back at El Ángel for not dropping the belt. In disgust he walked out on his pay per apperance contract, the company that made him and his record breaking reign as champion and defected; starting his own company along with a number of close friendsout of the South East region of Mexico. The only problem is a number of these wrestlers are winding down and Ángel is struggling to make any new stars, who want to go to the bigger, more succesfull and more money driven company of...A

Plan for Mexico is probably 7 or 8 promotions in the country. The 2 at cult level and at war with each other, where really only one would survive. Plans are for a hardcore, and puroresu promotion in Mexico.

----

So while I prepare my posts for the start of Japan and Australia (which will echo real life events that will factor into Economical and Industiral levels) anybody have any things to say about anything mentioned so far.

Really am looking for a name for both companies in Mexico, something traditional for the newer one owned by El Ángel.

Any possible ideas for tag teams you wish to be in? It's at a national level so I can quite easily have about 14 tag teams without the AI going mad. The company is one of them not completed yet, its not 100% 2 vs 2 on the AI, its just more that each fued and title would be between two teams, wheras I may try and set a 100% AI for the Pay Per Views and hope that it simulates that correctly. One of the things to do tomorrow to finish it off.

Any other comments, hoping to add something else to the boards that have given so much back to me, hence the project.

Country Spotlight: Japan

The Japanese industry at the start of the game is going to be set as average and falling, as is it's economy. I will factor in that the region had an earthquake in its capital and a tsunami much like in real life as I feel as a narrative aspect to the game it does add something to it.

Its industry is going to be hit by 2 seperate issues as well. First is the fallout from the death of Daisuke Aoi, a top name talent for Japan's second biggest promotion Kanzen (I realise that this is a name already in the C-Verse, but as I originally requested it and did have plans to put it in a earlier mod I felt it was time to give my take on it) who died after an overdose of perscription painkillers, perscribed for years of pain from an overbearing and brutal schedule. The industry is looked upon from this moment on wondering if the physical levels of the promotions is too much, hittings its momentum and Kanzen's prestige.

A bright new wave of talent is coming through the ranks however, at every division level making for a brighter future for the wrestling industry there. One to name of is Goro Hotaka who is a graduate of the J-Dojo and has been through the feeder system of Sato's Gym to begin his climb of the ranks of the number one company in Japan, Pro Wrestling EVO (EVO). the 25 year old 247 pounder is seen as the future of the company.

Maybe 10 or so companies will come from here, admittedly you may already be thinking the loading times are going to be hell, if they are I'll just rework some stuff before relase.

Country Spotlight: Australia

4 companies is the plan, not really sure of much work right now but I feel like Australia will be cut off from the rest of the world. Bar SEI who will have a TV deal there, nobody else will be shown on Australian TV from abroad, and no Australian company will be shown abroad to other nations.

The plan is one national, one cult and two regional, with the national and regional based out of the Eastern, the cult out of the central and the other regional in New Zealand (although it may be like Puerto Rico where its attendances could be seen as higher if its possible to pull off).

----

A question I also have to ask on top of my other one's from before. Popularity, I plan to have a few crossover stars (Jackson from the AFL), a former reality TV star, some musicians who also wrestle, just try to cross cultures as wrestling has. Would the popularity they have in the game be better if it's just to do with their wrestling or from their overall public nature. For example Jackson would have never been hired by SEI if not for being a Pro-Bowl winner so would it make sense to have others have some popularity for stuff they've done?

It's with great honor that I can give to you the first look at the lead wrestler in the Payne-Verse in all his glory, brought to you by one of the guys who has agreed to help me out with this project on the making them look badass front, JHD1...

Ladies and Gentelmen, the current reigning and defending SEI World Heavyweight Champion,

"Project Alpha" Matty Payne

“Project Alpha” Matty Payne is an American from Fort Lauderdale, Florida who began his career training at the SEI Institute, graduating in their 2002 class at the tender age of 20 and one year before any graduations from any of his enrolment year. Payne instantly made his debut on SEI Television in a losing effort to future long time rival “The Reverend” Marcus Steele. While not being noted for a dazzling in ring ability, Payne’s athletic stature and charisma, mixed with his usefulness with the basics helped him become a main event star. He picked up his first world championship in 2006 before winning it another three times. At the beginning of 2012 Payne is the current SEI World Champion in his fourth reign.

Fun Fact: Matty was the youngest SEI World Champion at 24 years and 2 months when he won the title in their headline event Summerfest, entering the 30 man rumble first and going on to win, picking up his nickname in the process.
