fatallylost
I'm sure this is on here somewhere, but, I can't seem to find anything on it, and it should be a basic, and probably stupid question. 9 times out of 10 I run small promotions. So, currently, I'm in year 4ish of a game. I have a C overage in the South West USA, and everywhere else is in the F's. So, what's the best way of starting to expand my base? I'm drawing over 3000 people per show in the southwest, everywhere else would be under 100. So, practically speaking, I would bleed money like crazy running shows too often anywhere else. Any tips? Would it be a matter of running a show every so often in another area, or, is there any other ways?
Gungner
House Shows and TV-Deals... But I guess that's not really an option?
fatallylost
house shows not so much, tv deal I have, but, it only airs in the south west (any outside just won't agree to a deal.)
Rick Savant
Best is tough. The fastest way would be to hold a show in the territory you want to grow in as often as you can afford it. If you're making money on shows in your home area then I assume you're running around 4-5 shows a month. You can easily run one show a month in your second territory, lose money on it and still turn a profit on the month. If your profit margin is so thin that the one show out of region means you take a loss on the month, well, then you can do one every second month and be more or less financially stable. Now if you're losing money on your shows and relying on sponsorship to stabilize then I would really just focus on your home area for now. You need to be profitable before you think about expansion. Anyway if you do put on the show a month at the cost of financial gains you'll slowly build up your pop and begin to take less and less of a loss, meanwhile making more and more money in your home while continuing to raise your pop there. But I wouldn't recommend doing that. If you do that you'll gain in pop relatively quickly but your finances will be strained and when you hit cult you'll die the death of a thousand murderers. Which I assume is a fairly unpleasant one. No. Best to focus on your home area and let the spill over building up your surroundings. Eventually you'll get to C+ or hell even B- overness in your home and you'll be making oodles of cash. Then when you got a couple million you can step into your spilled-over regions and not take even that much of a loss, shoot up to Cult and handle it like... something with a handle. We'll say a pot. DaMegaFish
House Shows and TV-Deals... But I guess that's not really an option? For the record, House shows do NOT increase popularity. As for the original question, you should get spill over popularity gain at some point, and also, try to get a TV show that has a slightly larger viewing group. Patience is key when playing a small promotion, it takes a lot of time.

That's what I just started doing. I currently run 5 shows a month (6 in some months) My profit margin has grown more recently, that's why the idea came up for me. I jsut ran my first out of area show, it did well (well, it's hard to fail with an F+ popularity, hah) and still made about 80,000 somehow. It was a great month. So, I'm thinking one, maybe two shows a month out of area should help. I just wasn't sure if there were any other tricks, hints, whatever they'd be called. For the record, House shows do NOT increase popularity. As for the original question, you should get spill over popularity gain at some point, and also, try to get a TV show that has a slightly larger viewing group. Patience is key when playing a small promotion, it takes a lot of time. I'm all about patience. I've only lost money a handful of months out of the run so far (for once) and how does the spill over work? I've noticed my popularity is higher in a couple other places. Does that just happen cause those areas are nearby, or does hiring a worker who's more over in another area help?
DaMegaFish
I don't remember EXACTLY how the spill over works, I'm sure its probably somewhere on these boards but yes, you get so popular in one area, eventually the surrounding areas will see a jump in popularity, allowing you to move to those areas more effectively. This is a post from TEW 2008, but its the same concept, should be a bit of a help to you. http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showpost.php?p=454545&postcount=

Like, being in So Cal we have PWG. But a lot of the guys work shows around the area, word of mouth is pretty big, so shows will have people from Arizona, Vegas, etc. So if they ever ran in those areas, I'd imagine they'd have a smaller, but already built in audience.
