Sent the file on to BigAl...sorry today and tomorow loooooooooooooooong days at work, we are only on Saturday, I for one have a lot of decisions pending this week, sorry but us GLOBAL companies have alot of important business to attend to

On a side note, and I will discuss it more in detail in my diary but The Dynamite Kid's comeback has ended, the WWF released him from his contract today

Well, I'm more than happy about not being global or international yet. Heck, it even suits me not being national for a little while longer...

Why? Because I don't really have to put on shows higher than B-. Hell, even C+ raises my popularity in certain areas. This means that I won't have to give away as many PPV-caliber matches as WCW and WWF on my tv shows and that I can better afford pushing young stars into the main event.

And once people like DDP, Guerrero, Jericho et al. are as popular as guys like Psycho Sid, The Ultimate Warrior and The Giant the WWF should fear us... ;)

P.S. Christian Cage would *so* kick "The Road Dogg" Jesse James' butt! :p

Yeah. WCW showed no apparant interest in Wright in the beginning of the game, so I signed him and build him up to C+ pop in USA... which apparantly made WCW love him. Just too bad for them that he lost 2 matches in his last night in TNA, dropping him to C-... oh well.

Ha. Wait till you see what RVD's pop will be when the WWF get ahold of him!

Georgia Championship wrestling was on National cable starting in I think 1977, and by the early 80's were touring into Ohio, Pennsylvania and the upper mid-west, WWF and AWA territories. Crockett was holding 'supershows' in Baltimore way back when, a traditional WWF stronghold. WCCW was selling it's weekly TV show into syndication all over the country in the 1980's. So I don't know that McMahon was the only one, or even the first one to break the old code so to speak and compete on a national level, he was just the best at it. He may have signed some WCW guys like Flair in the early 1990's, but it was WCW that put Nitro on against RAW to hurt the WWF, ran their biggest storyline (nWo) around the fact that Hall and Nash left WWF, bashed the WWF on live TV, gave away match results for RAW (that'll put butts in the seats) and had a former WWF Women's Champion throw the WWF belt in the trash. So in summary is/was McMahon a humanitarian award winner? NO But was/is he a villian? No

Course that's just my opinion...and I could be wrong <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Ha, I don't even know if you can be wrong. I mean, hero's and villains are subjective. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter and all that. And I certainly won't say anything nice about WCW's business practices in regards to how they approached the WWF (But they treated their employees better from a business standpoint, although admittedly not from a creative one). But in terms of being predatory, the WWF was way worse on the whole. Worse earlier on. And ultimately did more damage to the business and, clearly, WCW: ultimately buying them out and burying the brand.

It's tough to take intent as a factor as we just don't know. I mean, we can assume the worst because Bischoff's a pretty horrible person, but when you just look at effects your examples seem way less bad than the WWE's crimes. I mean, to me. Giving away match results on TV helped the WWE, it didn't hurt them. And putting Nitro on Monday nearly single handedly saved wrestling. At least started a golden age. So it's hard to get upset about those examples. Starting an angle off Hall and Nash defecting to the WCW isn't even something I would, personally, consider wrong. And even if I did, which again I don't, it's pretty comparable to WWE bring in Flair as the 'Real World's Champion' (an invasion angle which alluded to the other brand as the invader). Which of course WWE did first. And sure WWE didn't literally throw that title in the garbage, but they spent a good long time making sure it was clear that the WCW title wasn't anywhere near as important as the WWE Championship (or whatever it was called at the time). And some would argue the WCW World Title is a bit more important than the WWF's women's belt.

You're right, of course, that Vince wasn't the only evil business man who valued his personal wealth over the sustainability of professional wrestling. Not by a long shot. But we don't know the extent of the damage those other people would have done. We do know the extent of the damage that WWF has done and it's pretty hard to imagine it much worse to my tastes.

At very least WCW paid their employees well and showcased a diversity of styles. The WWE has killed variety within it's own brand and from a labour perspective, I would have to agree with Ventura that they're repulsive.

I would agree that, since the fall of WCW, the WWF has done a ****Ton of harm to wrestling, sanitizing it, stripping it of it's soul and reselling it as 'Sports Entertainment'. On the flip side, It works! It's mega successful. I guess my point is, if Ted Turner's WCW had won the war, or JCP or Verne's AWA etc...we'd be talking about that soulless monster Ted Turner (or whoever), and remembering fondly when the brave and noble Vince McMahon had the fortitude to stand up to an evil empire. It's a business, and McMahon was the best business man of the bunch. Personally, I would have loved to see JCP rise to #1, as i thought the mid to late 80's run they had was some of the best wrestling E-E-EVAH!!!

...and WCW paid it's employees so well because Turner was an incredibly wealthy, incredible naive, nice-guy who was a wrestling fan. To coin a phrase, there's No chance...No chance in **** that a sane rational business man would have spent the money that WCW did on it's roster. That was Bischoff trying to run the WWF into the ground that inflated those wages.

You're pretty much ignoring the fact that Vince started the whole "dirty tricks" thing by forcing PPV carriers not to carry JCP/WCW shows. Yes it's true that Bischoff escalated the dirty tricks through his enourmous resources, but he didn't fire the first shot. And who's to say Vince wouldn't have done the same had he had the same kind of resources?

We're also talking about the Vince who wasn't too good to do Hogan, Savage and Okerlund parodies on his show. Parodies that were aimed at former employees of his and not at WCW. The same Vince who had DX go a step further than the Outsider "invasion" angle (which Vince sued WCW over) and actually had them disrupt live WCW events. The same Vince who were petty enough to, when he finally won the war, completely destroy and bury the legacy of WCW and **** all over their fans. And so on...

I'm not trying to defend Bischoff and his business tactics here, I'm just saying that Vince was no innocent victim.

It's possible but we don't know that. And there are reasons to believe it's simply not true. The WWF showed signs of what we're seeing to this day ever since Vince Jr took over. Big, steroid addled guys who can't work rising to to the top has long been the WWE's thing. The cartoonishness and near contempt for serious wrestling has been there ever since Backlund dropped the title. There's are obvious periods where that didn't exist, seemingly: Michaels/Hart era. The 80s Tag Scene. But these are exceptions, not the norm. Where as WCW under Ted Turner were very consistent in the product they put forward and it was always very southern. Even when they started bringing in the big slow punchy guys with Hogan, Wight, Nash; the majority of the roster simply did not wrestle that style.

So there's no precedent to say the wrestling would have gotten as bad as it is. And there isn't a precedent to say they would have become a children's show either. The WWE didn't have to become a children's show to beat WCW. They had to appeal to the 18-35 demographic to beat WCW. And then betray them by becoming a children's show leaving that demographic with no where to turn to be able to watch well produced wrestling designed to appeal to them.

However to give your point some extra validity: If a victorious, Bischoff led WCW would have ended up becoming TNA... well. Then yeah, that would have been pretty awful. But I'm pretty sure TNA is a product of trying to play catch up. Who knows what they would be like if they were on top.

It's a business, and McMahon was the best business man of the bunch. I like that you consider being a "naive, nice-guy who [is] a wrestling fan" to insane from a business standpoint. That's kinda funny, but probably pretty telling about the perception of the business world and how people think about approaching it.

I'm also not convince WCW's wages were inflated. I'd argue that WWF's were more abysmally low for how dangerous the work is and how intrusive it is to having a family or a normal life.

Oh! I just remembered! We're playing a game! ...does anyone know where the file is?
