Real Life Counterparts

Recommended Posts

After playing WMMA 2 and 3, it's become pretty obvious that a number of fighters in the default database are based on other, real-life, fighters.

For example: Hassan Fezzik is clearly based on 'The Last Emperor', April Watson is clearly based on Gina Carano, Christopher Sharp is clearly based off Mark 'The Smashing Machine' Kerr, and Sean Morrison is clearly Matt Hughes.

I figure since many of them are obscured or only partial clones it would be cool if I asked which fighters you also thought were dead ringers for an IRL fighter, and who was it? Or maybe just made an uncannily similar run as them in your game?

I think Jack Humphreys as the trash talker reminds me more of Chael Sonnen than Matt Hughes, but he doesn't get suspended for steroids :p. Sean Morrison is the Matt Hughes for me.

Manuel Silva reminds me of Jose Aldo a lot, great Muay thai and high level BJJ background. He could also be a little like BJ, being the 'prodigy' like when BJ came into the sport, and he's well rounded as well.

Also Elzo Alves Moura in my game is a lot like Big Nog. Excellent chin, good boxing, fantastic jiu-jitsu at heavyweight, submitting all the top competition. He might not turn out like that in many games, but hey, it's a comparison that could be made in my game at least.

Braulio Moura has always been Wanderlei Silva-esque to me, all because the phrase "swarming style" in his bio.

Also Marlon John - Jon Jones. Good striking, fantastic wrestling and physical attributes. Young, big and tall light heavyweight.

Rufus Stephens - Randy Couture. Master game planner, clinch artist. They even look very much alike if you take away Stephens' hair!

Morrison talks mad s*** in my game and everyone he fights "dislikes" him.

Guys, you need to take into account that WMMA3s database builds upon WMMA1's database, meaning that fighter bios are several years out of date. Many of the fighters you talk about hadn't even gotten famous by the time WMMA1 was released. Roger Gracie or Aldo are who you say they are as those characters are older than them becoming big names and Couture is 100% obviously James Foster.

Mark Cohen is an interesting character - Jeff Carlton seems to be a quite obvious candidate for prime Mark Coleman/Randleman whereas Cohen represents the more washed-up Coleman of today.

Furthermore, nobody knew who Sonnen was by the time the Humphreys character was written. Humphreys is based on prime Tito Ortiz - good wrestler and ground control, but tends to be unable to finish his fights convincingly, a big trash-talker.

But this has kind of been done to death. Search for the older threads on the subject.
