dormammu
I'm playing the Dawn of MMA mod and am running into a problem. I just started, so there's 11 fighters in my entire organization (and game world, for that matter.) Since I'm trying to stick to the way UFC originally did it, I'm running 8 man No Weight Class tournaments. All my fighters needed around 34 days to recover after the first one finished. Fine. I schedule a second tournament 44 days out and they all refuse to work it. I advance the game world to the day after they're all recovered. I schedule it again and they accept, but they all demand extra fees for having such short notice. I cancel the event (cancellation fee is less than what I'd have to pay everyone.) and reschedule it further out so they have prep time. Does it _have_ to be this way? Is there any way to get them to accept a booking while they're still recovering, provided the event falls outside their anticipated recover period? I could understand them not wanting to accept a booking the day after they are expected to finish recovering. But I scheduled it a week and a half past. This will give them a few weeks to get ready for their fight as well and should make it so there isn't 3 1/2 months between events. This has never been an issue for me before because I've always played game worlds with a sufficient number of fighters so they only get scheduled about every 3 months regardless. New fighters are coming into the gameworld pretty quickly so hopefully in another 6 game months this won't be an issue anymore. (Oh, hello Oleg Taktarov... I have a spot on the roster right here for you.)
OctoberRaven
No, there isn't. And the reason why a fighter wouldn't be ready, from a realism standpoint, is because light training to keep in shape, which they might do during the recovery time, and match preparation training are two completely different animals. If you do the latter while still recovering you can reinjure something and screw up your career. From my experience on a high school wrestling team, you get worked to the bone during training until your last few days where you mentally prepare by watching tapes (believe it or not, our wrestling coach had us watching UFC tapes, which was my first actual exposure to MMA) and make sure you're going to make weight. dormammu
Yes, that makes sense. For whatever reason, I was thinking more along the lines of them mentally preparing (eg, watching tapes of prior matches and that kind of thing) rather than working out as hard as they can. Thanks! I was thinking they were closer together. I'm guessing this is because I didn't start watching UFC until around UFC 8, and I was renting the older shows as well. So watching the tapes in between the new shows seems to have played tricks on my memory.

Though I sort of abandoned the idea of sticking to early UFC because my matches were getting crazy long (60 minute decision, matches routinely taking 40+ minutes.) I finally gave in after I ran UFC 5 and set up rounds because these super long matches were hell on my ratings, and sometimes there'd be 3-4 matches taking 40+ minutes each.
