WWE Friday Night SmackDown! (Live from the NY Tate Rink, 2,648 in Attendance)

Pre-Show: Layla versus Michelle McCool

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Michelle McCool defeated Layla in 17:40 by pinfall with a Styles Clash.

Match Rating: D-

Friday Night SmackDown! begins with the former WWE Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson making his way to the ring. Ezekiel Jackson retrieves a microphone from the ringside area and reminds the WWE Universe that last week on SmackDown! he lost his WWE Intercontinental Championship to Kane. Jackson says that he is very disappointed in himself for losing the Intercontinental Championship last week after holding it for several months, but that he hopes his good friend Finlay is able to defeat Kane later tonight and become the new Intercontinental Champion himself. Jackson then says that personally he has bigger fish to fry tonight as he will take part in the biggest match of his career to date when he joins Kane’s brother, the Undertaker, in challenging Sheamus for the World Heavyweight Championship in tonight’s Triple Threat main event match. Jackson says that he has never been the World Heavyweight Champion but it’s something that he’s dreamt about for his entire life and that perhaps losing the Intercontinental Championship last week could have been a blessing in disguise if Jackson is able to create history and win the biggest prize on SmackDown! tonight. The lights then go out in the arena and when they come back on the Undertaker is standing in the ring and has Ezekiel Jackson by the throat. The Undertaker then hits Jackson with a devastating Chokeslam before signalling that he will be the one to become the new World Heavyweight Champion in tonight’s Friday Night SmackDown! Triple Threat main event match.

The Undertaker continues to stand over a fallen Ezekiel Jackson until the lights go out in the arena again and when they come back on the Undertaker is nowhere to be seen and all that remains is Ezekiel Jackson crumpled in a heap in the centre of the ring following the Chokeslam from the Undertaker. Jackson looks to be in serious pain and will likely not be completely fit in tonight’s Friday Night SmackDown! Triple Threat main event match when he joins the Undertaker in challenging Sheamus for the World Heavyweight Championship. The World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus then comes to the ring and helps Jackson to his feet. Sheamus and Jackson then shake hands before Jackson gingerly makes his way to the back. Rosa Mendes then joins Sheamus in the ring and wishes him luck in tonight’s main event. Rosa then kisses Sheamus on the cheek before heading to the back and leaving the World Heavyweight Champion looking particularly pleased with himself.

Rating: B-

WWE Intercontinental Championship: Kane © versus Finlay

In a bout that had great heat and great wrestling action, Kane defeated Finlay in 7:58 by pinfall with a Choke Slam. Kane makes defence number 1 of his WWE Intercontinental title.

Match Rating: B

The largest athlete in the World, Big Show, comes to the ring and is quick to take a microphone from the ringside area. Big Show says that he will be watching tonight’s Friday Night SmackDown! Triple Threat main event match very closely as Sheamus will put his World Heavyweight Championship on the line in a Triple Threat match against both the Undertaker as well as Ezekiel Jackson. Big Show says that he can’t see Jackson winning tonight’s main event following the Chokeslam he suffered at the hands of the Undertaker earlier tonight, but whoever does win the Triple Threat match should know that Big Show will be coming for them. Big Show says that he is going to demand that the Friday Night SmackDown! General Manager Vickie Guerrero make him the Number One Contender to whoever wins tonight’s main event. Jack Swagger then joins Big Show in the ring with his Money in the Bank briefcase and reminds Big Show that his briefcase means that he can challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship whenever he wants.

Rating: B

Layla comes to the ring and says that at Summerslam she aims to defeat Monday Night RAW’s WWE Divas Champion Maryse as well as Natalya in their Triple Threat match to become the new WWE Divas Champion. Rosa Mendes then comes to the ring and wishes Layla luck at Summerslam. Layla and Rosa embrace but are then attacked from behind by Michelle McCool and the Friday Night SmackDown! General Manager Vickie Guerrero. McCool throws Rosa out of the ring and Vickie then holds Layla’s arms behind her back allowing McCool to kick Layla continuously in the skull.

However the Undertaker is not so gracious in defeat and hits Jackson with a Chokeslam for the second time tonight. The Undertaker then takes a microphone and says that Jackson will rest in peace. The lights then go out in the arena and when they come back on the Undertaker has gone. Jack Swagger then rushes to the ring with his Money in the Bank briefcase! Swagger says that he is cashing in his Money in the Bank contract now!

The following contests are confirmed to take place on tonight’s edition of WWE Monday Night RAW: </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>

<strong>Non-Title: WWE Champion Evan Bourne vs. WWE Tag Team Champ Heath Slater</strong></p><p>

This Sunday at Summerslam, Evan Bourne will make the very first defence of the WWE Championship that he won for the very first time two weeks ago on Monday Night RAW when Bourne defeated the former WWE Champion, Alex Riley, as well as Daniel Bryan in a Triple Threat match. Evan Bourne’s first title defence at Summerslam this Sunday will be against Husky Harris of the New Nexus. Evan Bourne will also be taking on another New Nexus member in tonight’s Monday Night RAW non-title Champion versus Champion main event as he will take on one half of the WWE Tag Team Champions in Heath Slater. Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater’s tag team partner and the other half of the reigning WWE Tag Team Champions, will also be in action tonight on RAW as he will take on William Regal. This Sunday at Summerslam Slater and Gabriel will put their WWE Tag Team Championships on the line against the team of William Regal and David Hart Smith. David Hart Smith will also be in action tonight on RAW as he will take on another New Nexus member, the WWE United States Champion Michael McGuillicutty, in non-title action. In last week’s Monday Night RAW non-title main event Bourne competed in his first match since becoming the new WWE Champion and defeated Justin Gabriel. Bourne will hope to defeat Gabriel’s partner and fellow New Nexus member Slater tonight. Bourne and Slater have met on RAW on three previous occasions in the past, with Evan Bourne coming out victorious in all three matches as he defeated Slater on an episode of RAW in April of last year, on another episode of RAW in March and most recently on an episode of RAW back in May. Bourne and Slater have also been involved in several tag team matches together and most recently at last month’s WWE Money in the Bank Pay-Per-View faced off in a Triple Threat tag team match as Slater and Gabriel defeated Bourne and Kofi Kingston as well as the Uso’s to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Non-Title: WWE US Champion Michael McGuillicutty versus David Hart Smith</strong></p><p>

Another New Nexus member, the WWE United States Champion Michael McGuillicutty, will also be in action tonight on Monday Night RAW as he will take on David Hart Smith in non-title action. This Sunday at Summerslam Michael McGuillicutty will put his United States Championship on the line in a Triple Threat match against both Ted DiBiase as well as RAW’s Money in the Bank winner, Mark Henry. David Hart Smith will also be facing New Nexus competition this Sunday at Summerslam as he will team up with William Regal to challenge Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel for the WWE Tag Team Championships. Smith’s partner, William Regal, will also be in action tonight on RAW as he will take on one half of the WWE Tag Team Champions Justin Gabriel. The other half of the WWE Tag Team Champions, Heath Slater, will compete in tonight’s Monday Night RAW Champion versus Champion non-title main event against the WWE Champion Evan Bourne. Tonight will be the very first time that McGuillicutty and David Hart Smith, two Second Generation Superstars, will ever have faced one another on RAW. However, both McGuillicutty and Smith did compete in this year’s Royal Rumble match, back in January. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>WWE Tag Team Champion Justin Gabriel versus William Regal</strong></p><p>

One half of the WWE Tag Team Champions, Justin Gabriel, will get a chance to scout one of his opponents this Sunday at Summerslam tonight as the New Nexus member Gabriel will take on William Regal. This Sunday at Summerslam William Regal will join David Hart Smith in challenging Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel for the WWE Tag Team Championships. Tonight will be the second time that Gabriel and Regal will ever have faced one another in singles competition after Gabriel defeated Regal on an episode of Monday Night RAW back in February. Both Gabriel and Regal also competed in the RAW Elimination Chamber match back at February’s WWE Elimination Chamber Pay-Per-View.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Triple H versus Daniel Bryan</strong></p><p>

Two former WWE Champions will go one on one tonight on Monday Night RAW as the “Game” Triple H will take on Daniel Bryan in what should be a tremendous contest. Incredibly, tonight will be the very first time that Triple H and Daniel Bryan will ever have competed against one another although they have teamed together before as part of Team RAW at last year’s WWE Bragging Rights Pay-Per-View as well as winning a Survivor Series match together at last year’s WWE Survivor Series Pay-Per-View. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Alex Riley versus Jimmy Uso</strong></p><p>

Finally, the former WWE Champion Alex Riley will also be in action tonight on Monday Night RAW as he will take on one half of the Uso’s in Jimmy Uso. At last month’s WWE Money in the Bank Pay-Per-View Alex Riley defeated Daniel Bryan in the main event to become the new WWE Champion only to lose the title the very next night on RAW as Evan Bourne defeated both Bryan and Riley to become the new WWE Champion. Riley is likely to still be very upset about how quickly he lost the WWE Championship he worked so hard to win and may take it out on Jimmy Uso tonight.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Quick Picks:</strong> </p><p>

Non-Title: WWE Champion Evan Bourne vs. WWE Tag Team Champ Heath Slater</p><p>

Non-Title: WWE US Champion Michael McGuillicutty vs. David Hart Smith</p><p>

WWE Tag Team Champion Justin Gabriel versus William Regal</p><p>

Triple H versus Daniel Bryan</p><p>

Alex Riley versus Jimmy Uso</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

(Predictions are welcomed, there will be a prediction contest held every month.)</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Bourne says that the New Nexus have been a parasite on Monday Night RAW for far too long and that just as Bourne defeated Justin Gabriel in last week’s Monday Night RAW non-title main event, he will defeat Gabriel’s partner and other half of the WWE Tag Team Champions and fellow New Nexus member Heath Slater in tonight’s Monday Night RAW non-title main event. Bourne says that the New Nexus are hoping to leave Summerslam with all of the gold on RAW but that he can see them leaving with nothing as he hopes Michael McGuillicutty loses his United States Championship when he defends it in a Triple Threat match this Sunday against both Ted DiBiase as well as RAW’s Money in the Bank winner Mark Henry. Bourne also declares that he believes William Regal and David Hart Smith will defeat Slater and Gabriel to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions, and that he hopes Regal is able to gain a victory over Gabriel in their match next on RAW. Husky Harris then rushes to the ring and hits Bourne with a vicious clothesline. Michael Cole then receives an email from the Anonymous RAW General Manager announcing that the WWE Championship match at Summerslam this Sunday will take place inside the Hell in a Cell to ensure no interference from other New Nexus members. Husky Harris seems a little angry with the decision but soon smiles as he stands over the fallen WWE Champion and holds the Championship belt in the air.

DiBiase tells the WWE Universe that he is not afraid of Michael McGuillicutty and that he is also not afraid of Monday Night RAW’s Money in the Bank winner Mark Henry. DiBiase says that he strongly believes that he will defeat both Henry and McGuillicutty this Sunday at Summerslam in their Triple Threat match to become the new WWE United States Champion. DiBiase says that by winning the United States Championship this Sunday he will prove that he is not just a Second Generation Superstar, but a Superstar in his own right. DiBiase says that his father, Ted DiBiase Sr., was a tremendous competitor, but DiBiase wants to forge his own legacy, and it begins with winning the United States Championship this Sunday.

<em>Friday Night SmackDown! begins with the former World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus in the middle of the ring holding a microphone. Sheamus says that he is extremely disappointed that he lost the World Heavyweight Championship last week on SmackDown! as Ezekiel Jackson defeated both Sheamus as well as the Undertaker in their Triple Threat match to become the new World Heavyweight Champion for the very first time. Sheamus goes on to say that he is even more frustrated about the events after the match as Jack Swagger cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to defeat Jackson and become the new World Heavyweight Champion himself. Sheamus says that he has spoken to the SmackDown! General Manager Vickie Guerrero and unfortunately due to Jackson no longer holding the title Sheamus does not get an automatic Championship rematch and therefore will not be challenging Swagger for the title any time soon. Sheamus then says that as he will not be challenging Swagger for the World Heavyweight Championship this Sunday at Summerslam he is challenging anybody on the SmackDown! roster to a match this Sunday, and hopes to have his challenge answered by the end of the night. Rosa Mendes then joins Sheamus in the ring and tells him that he’s still a Champion to her, and gives him a kiss on the cheek.</em></p><p>

Jackson announces that in tonight’s tag team main event he will team with Finlay to take on the team of the World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger, and the WWE Intercontinental Champion Kane. <em>Drew McIntyre comes to the ring and the Sinister Scotsman is quick to retrieve a microphone from the ringside area. Sheamus then returns to the ring and has a stare-down with McIntyre before McIntyre kicks Sheamus in the knee and then starts laughing and quickly bails out of the ring. </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>

<strong>WWE Championship: Hell in a Cell: Evan Bourne © vs. Husky Harris</strong></p><p>

Tonight at Summerslam Evan Bourne will make the first defence of the WWE Championship he won two weeks ago on Monday Night RAW as he will take on Husky Harris of the New Nexus in a Hell in a Cell match. Evan Bourne became the WWE Champion for the very first time a few weeks ago on RAW when he defeated the former Champion Alex Riley as well as Daniel Bryan in a Triple Threat match in RAW’s main event just twenty-four hours after Riley won the title from Daniel Bryan at the Money in the Bank Pay-Per-View in July. Husky Harris has never before been a Champion in the WWE and if he wins tonight the New Nexus may leave with all of the gold on Monday Night RAW and will all hold Championships if Michael McGuillicutty is able to hold onto his WWE United States Championship and Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel are able to retain their WWE Tag Team Championships. Bourne and Harris have faced one another on just one previous occasion as Bourne defeated the second generation Superstar Husky Harris on an episode of RAW back in May.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>World Heavyweight Championship: Jack Swagger © versus Finlay</strong></p><p>

Just nine days ago on Friday Night SmackDown! Jack Swagger cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase just as he did two years ago when he first won the World Heavyweight Championship. Swagger defeated Ezekiel Jackson to become the new World Heavyweight Champion for the third time just moments after Jackson incredibly defeated both the Undertaker and the former World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus in a Triple Threat match to become the new World Heavyweight Champion for the very first time. Tonight Swagger will make the first defence of his newly won Championship as he will take on the challenge of Finlay, who despite being a veteran has never before held the World Heavyweight Championship. In order to become the new World Champion Finlay will have to defeat Swagger for the very first time, as he has previously lost to him on numerous occasions including on episodes of SmackDown! back in July, August and September of last year.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>US Title: Michael McGuillicutty © versus Ted DiBiase versus Mr. MITB Mark Henry</strong></p><p>

Michael McGuillicutty of the New Nexus will look to make the second defence of his United States Championship reign tonight at Summerslam as he will put the title on the line in a Triple Threat match against the son of the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase as well as Monday Night RAW’s Money in the Bank winner Mark Henry. McGuillicutty became United States Champion for the very first time two months ago back in June at the WWE Fatal Four-Way Pay-Per-View when he defeated the former US Champion Zack Ryder as well as DiBiase and Vladimir Kozlov in a Fatal Four-Way match. McGuillicutty’s first title defence came last month in July at the WWE Money in the Bank Pay-Per-View when he defeated DiBiase in one on one competition. Neither Ted DiBiase nor Mark Henry have ever held the United States Championship before and would love to become Champion for the very first time tonight at the biggest party of the summer, Summerslam.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>WWE Intercontinental Championship: Kane © versus Ezekiel Jackson</strong></p><p>

Three weeks ago on the final episode of Friday Night SmackDown! in July Kane defeated Ezekiel Jackson to become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion for the third time in his illustrious career. Kane made the first defence of his newly won Championship two weeks ago on SmackDown! as he defeated Finlay to retain the title. Tonight Ezekiel Jackson will receive his rematch against Kane and will himself be hoping to become the new Intercontinental Champion for the fourth time. Tonight will only be the second time that Kane and Jackson have faced one another in singles action after Kane’s title win three weeks ago.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>WWE Tag Team Championships: Slater & Gabriel © vs. William Regal & DH Smith</strong></p><p>

Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel of the New Nexus will put their WWE Tag Team Championships on the line tonight against the relatively newly formed team of William Regal and David Hart Smith. Tonight will be Slater and Gabriel’s first title defence after they defeated the previous Champions Epico and Darren Young as well as Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne and the Uso’s in a Fatal Four-Way tag team match at the WWE Money in the Bank Pay-Per-View last month, in July, to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions for the second time.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sheamus versus Drew McIntyre</strong></p><p>

After losing the World Heavyweight Championship two weeks ago on Friday Night SmackDown! Sheamus was quick to challenge anybody to a match at Summerslam, and this past week on SmackDown! Drew McIntyre accepted the challenge with an assault on Sheamus. These two Brits will go head to head tonight.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>WWE Divas Championship: Maryse © versus Layla versus Natalya</strong></p><p>

Maryse is currently the longest reigning Champion in the WWE and tonight she will put her WWE Divas Championship on the line in a Triple Threat match against Monday Night RAW’s Natalya as well as Friday Night SmackDown!’s Layla as Maryse looks to make the ninth successful defence of her title. Maryse has held the Divas Championship since Wrestlemania back in March when she defeated the former Champion Beth Phoenix as well as Alicia Fox in a Triple Threat match to become Divas Champion for the third time. Tonight will be the very first time that this particular Triple Threat match will ever have taken place.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>
