Modders! Pitch Your Stuff!

Recommended Posts

In this thread, our friendly neighborhood modders can post whatever projects they have planned and bicker over their proper implementation, going off of whatever information is available on the game at this time.

Personally? I'm going to do the biggest, most in-depth exploration of the DC universe that the game will allow. I want to flesh out each major city in the DCU to the point that it's a sustainable, playable environment for the player to inhabit, from Metropolis to Coast City.

When I'm done with that, I'm going to go into all-out Elseworlds territory, modding my own mod. First step is an alternate universe in which all Post-Crisis death is considered final. Superman dies in his fight with Doomsday. Batman goes into retirement after Bane breaks his back. Wonder Woman dies as the result of an ancient prophecy. Other heroes have to step up and take their places of prominence. What if The Return of Superman didn't feature Superman at all, and instead Earth's fate was left to a different set of heroes? Where is Bruce Wayne? What would a Nightwing-led Justice League look like? How will Superboy turn out without a Superman to mentor and guide him into adulthood? Most importantly, what are Beetle and Booster doing at a time like this? THE WORLD DEMANDS ANSWERS TO THESE QUESTIONS.

>.>

The Old World
The RavenVerse world was created by three divine beings: Gaia, the Goddess of Life who created the world itself and all that dwell in it; Helios, the Sun God who brought light to the world, and Hecate, the Goddess of Magic and Wisdom who gave man the intelligence to create the marvels of the world as well as the knowledge of magic to aid in their endeavors. In time, man found the constant light to be detrimental, depriving them of sleep and making them exhausted by heat, so Nyx, Goddess of Night, was allowed to add darkness to the world, giving shade from the sun when it became unbearable, and an enviroment to find safe rest within. After winning the affection of Gaia, Ares the God of War granted man the ability to combat creatures that threatened them... which they would inevitably turn on each other.

This, however, was all to Ares' plan.

Ares' secret second lover, the Queen of Demons Lilith, brought her denizens to the world, and Ares favored them to overthrow Gaia's world and turn it into a land of eternal warfare. Hecate, Helios, and Gaia chose champions to defend their creation from the demons. These, as legend say, were the first superhumans. In time Nyx was allowed to create a champion of her own to fight the demons. Ares would counter with his own champion, a demon known as Rallax The Destroyer (who happened to be Lilith and Ares' son). The battle would sway in demonkind's favor, and the champions' cause seemed lost...

Until a mortal warrior known as Morrigan, with no powers of her own, joined the champions at the front of battle. Unbeknownst to Ares, Gaia birthed her as a child of their own affair. Rallax himself was unable to slay Morrigan, and was forced to flee from her. This led Ares himself to walk the earth, and challenged Morrigan to a duel to the death; if Morrigan won, Rallax and the other demons would leave the world. If Ares won, the champions of the gods would surrender. The champions, knowing they would in time fall to the demons, asked Morrigan to accept the wager, and the duel took place on the Northern Mountains.

The battle lasted all of a swift breath; Morrigan parried Ares' arrogant first swing and answered by sending her sword right through the god. His scream shook the world to the point where it was nearly destroyed; the Northern Mountains themselves crumbled into nothingness, and flows of lava burst from the world for the first time. Morrigan survived on a small chunk of ice that remained.

However, Lilith had no intention of honoring her beloved's wager. While the massive quake drove most of the demons (Rallax included) into the underworld, and the heroes moved quickly to close as many rifts as possible, it was obvious that her brood would try to take the world once again. The gods knew that war was a neccessary evil, and Morrigan was chosen to take Ares' place.

The three creators had pledged no longer to interfere with the world directly after that day, for fear that they might cause Rallax and his kind to roam free again. Their champions eventually passed away. Nyx' remained fighting as the Night Goddess had the wisdom to grant her champion the gift of reincarnation. She promised only to give mortals the choice to accept her wisdom, and never to thrust it upon them. Morrigan made no pledge not to interfere, in case she would need to come to earth again. Hecate no longer granted magic to the world.

The names of the original three champions have been long forgotten. This has been by design; the creator gods proving to themselves that they would interfere no longer. As the remaining champion, known as Shroud, would lose his memories of his previous incarnations, only the gods and Rallax remember the names of the champions.

The Current World

While the people of today (save a select few) are even aware of the existance of the events of the old world, the remnants of the past are still felt today. Magic that remained from the war permeated the world itself, granting people the ability to not only learn the secrets of magic, but allowing some to be born with innate supernatural powers.

Vigilantes have appeared from time to time across modern history, most believed to be little more than myth. In the 1920s a man named Jonathan Masterson called himself The Peacekeeper fought criminals in Chicago. He was rumored to be impervious to pain and could dissapear at will, but he himself admitted that he had no such powers on a deathbed interview before succumbing to illness in 1942.

The man who would be dubbed by experts to be the first 'true' superhuman of the modern age was known as Alpha Soldier, who had been within lethal radius of the bombs on Bikini Atoll but miraculously survived and instead gained a healing factor and superhuman strength. Alpha Soldier dissapeared during the Vietnam War and his MIA status is said to be the deciding factor in the conflict.

The first 'hero team' of the modern age was The Pack, a quintet formed after a 1979 riot in Brimstone City, New Jersey. Led by charismatic ex-bounty hunter Bulldog and possesing no confirmed superhuman members (however Bulldog hasn't appeared to age at all since his retirement in 1988), the quintet has been an inspiration to heroes in both Brimstone City and Alpha City, Florida (founded and named after Alpha Soldier post-WWII).

Vigilantes and superhumans stayed mostly in the shadows until only very recently. In 2008 as a result of a ritual performed by the sinister villain group known as The Cabal of Nightmares, Rallax The Destroyer walked the earth again, emerging from the La Brea Tar Pits and claiming Los Angeles as "(his) property and playground" and brought havoc and destruction to it. One previously unknown hero (believed to be an incarnation of Shroud) was slaughtered on live television. The US government brought together some the heroes of both Brimstone and Alpha City together to try to stop Rallax and the demons he brought with him. Five heroes (one yet another incarnation of Shroud) managed to confront Rallax directly and with their teamwork drove the demons back. Shroud fled to the shadows, and the other four were commissioned to be Strike Force One, a loose confederation of heroes who would occassionally band together as the first line of defense against superhuman threats.

That's just my backround. Still need to do writeups about the three major superhuman cities and figure out who goes where... and writeups of individual characters etc. I'm shooting for at least 40 heroes and 30 villains, as well as at least a dozen gangs for street level adventures should street gangs with multiple nameless members be part of the game. There might be three or four teams to each side (Counting Strike Force One and Cabal of Nightmares), and at least one Hydra-like supervillain syndicate with both nameless pawns and named villain members.

Unsurprisingly I'd like to do some kind of port of my 9000-verse. Whether or not I'll be able to cover all the anime archetypes could be an issue and it might be odd getting some of the sillier workers, like pop culture celebrities, into a full on superhero world, but it probably won't be no more of a stretch than what I've been doing with TEW already <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I envision the pictures to be the biggest issue though. If it comes down to it, I'll just tile a 150x200 cut to fit a 400x600 picture and applies some kind of fancy effects so it doesn't look too sloppy

While I'm not really a modder I thought I might as well dump my musings here. A lot of people are obviously thinking about doing certain hero universes and the like, but what if (and this is a fairly big if) it was possible to create a fantasy universe instead of a super hero one ala Lord of the Rings? That would be pretty interesting imo and would certainly broaden the horizons of the game if possible.

I might actually have the will to mod a game like this. Most of my false starts on mods for TEW are super hero based anyway... haha...

I'll probably make my own universe at some point.

Also, I'll try making a universe based on video game characters who can probably act as super heroes.

Amalgam has always been something I've loved. The Marvel vs DC stuff wasn't executed exactly to my liking, but the Amalgam stuff was just really neat.

If I can get a renderer's help, I can put together a Super Hero League of Hoboken mini-mod.

It would just contain about a dozen heroes, one arch-villain and possibly a few of the more humerous enemies from the incredibly awesome game.

I might try to convert my old Marvel Super Heroes RPG campaign. It was based in Chicago (a fairly untouched area in the Marvel universe) and involved a group called the M.A.C.T. (Metahuman Active Crimes Taskforce), an experimental part of the Chicago PD's SWAT created in response to super human criminal activity. Basically it was an excuse to explain why these random super heroes were working together, but it could be interesting to revisit the idea after the Civil War Event that happened in Marvel and Iron Man's Initiative project.

I had a good number of super heroes (mostly members of M.A.C.T.) and villains I had created for the campaign, and I had used some of the Marvel Universe as well (mostly from Spider-Man's and Daredevil's rogue's gallery, guys like the Rhino, Shocker, Kingpin, The Owl, two dudes named Blowtorch and Ace I got from old Spidy comics I owned, and a couple of others). In fact, a three way gang war between men working for Owl, the Kingpin, and the local head mobster Smiley O'Toole was a major thread in the campaign. I think I might actually like resurrecting and updating that campaign in this manner, maybe dig through marvunapp.com for some more obscure Marvel guys who could be working "off-camera" in the area and add new guys to bolster the "roster". It could be fun! <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I probably won't do a dang thing as I've failed at more mods than I ever released. Then again one of them was downloaded millions of times so who knows...

If the game allows it and if I'm smart enough to figure it out, I would like to create some text adventures that can drop into any superhero game. With a bit of experience, I would like to 'mimic' the early marvel style. I've been reading the silver age of marvel in the order release based on this http://www.marvelmasterworks.com/timeline_marvel_silver.html and I think it would be a blast to create stories like the massively fun insanity that Stan, Kirby and company created. Of course we don't know what the game will allow, but hopefully it has a greater text element than the wrestling and marital art assault games or its just wrestling with Superheroes instead of Superstars and there won't be any point to any of these thoughts.

I'm thinking about making a mod with GDS members as the heroes and villians. If I'm done with the TEW mods I want finished by release I'll start work on one.

I call dibs on a hero spot.

It would be even more fun if we'd use our real pictures for this.

Depending of how the game works, I'm thinking about a video game based one. Something like Super Smash Bros +

But it's hard to plan anything while not knowing how the game works.

Would it make sense, for exemple, to have all the Mega Man robot masters as bad guys? To have common enemies as bad guys? Would it make sense to have the cast of Suikoden (The members of the Rebel Army in the original for exemple) as good guys?

I would love that this would all make sense because I could make a bad ass mod. BUT, I'm sort of worried about graphics for some of those characters. Say I wanted to put in the main character from....Kid Niki in there. Think I'll find good graphics for it? Not really.

I think you underestimate the graphics peeps here at GDS, I'd bet if you asked for that pic now in the modding forum you'd have a few within days :)

The biggest issue is finding a big enough picture that will work on a 800x600 cut.

I know that I'm going to have a huge mission finding usable images for a whole bunch of side-characters (based on the trouble I've had finding good pics for 150x150 cuts of some people), so what I'm thinking of doing is coming up with some kind of layout that will allow for smaller pictures without looking silly. My initial musings is the idea of 150x200 cuts on a background, made to look like a row of tv monitors, tiled across the 800x600, with one in the center which is either a bit bigger or more prominent somehow to direct focus to it. (would also allow me to take all my TEW cuts and have photoshop automate an entire database of pictures overnight).

Will have to try out a few different things (as if we're looking through a telescope or rifle scope, or using statistics as background padding could be some other options), but there's gotta be something which will work visually.

After seeing the images Crayon made, I decided I'm gonna make a One Piece Mod. I am incredibly lazy but I'm gonna have a lot of time in these next 3 months. There's nothing I love more than One Piece, so this sounds like something I would enjoy making, even if it took me one year or so to finish.

Now all I gotta do is learn how to make those nice images <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
