green poncho Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Basically, what is/was the biggest mistake you made in the game so far? Mine was attempting to make a women's strawweight (100-115 weightclass) in Weidt's WMMA3 mod. About a quarter of the fighters failed to make weight so far, and it's seems that unlikely that the rankings screen will ever include the division (forgot how many fighters need to be fighting at that weight for anything to show up). Currently I have a TV show just for them, and the plan is to slowly fire them if they go on 3-fight losing streaks or move the successful ones to flyweight once a opening appears there. Regardless, it definitely screwed up my schedule.
kjuice14 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011
my biggest mistake was:

1) buying too many players when i first started the game

and 2) sceduling too many matches per event

what i should have done was, knowing that 3 fights were the minimum, hired about 6-10 fighters per weight class. then as soon as i see which fighters are jobbers, i get rid of them, THEN i replace them, and not hire 20-30 fighters (expensive) per weight class and slowly whittle them away.

7 years into the game, im the number 2 promotion, because i always ran less fights. i ran 3 while the computer orgs ran 6 fights.

Dead_Jester Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Normally when i finish playing a session i add any contract renewals into decisions list before deleting the notification e-mail. In my GAMMA game i forgot to add my, at the time, lone PPV contract to the renewal list and ended up with two ppv's (GAMMA 99 and GAMMA 100) coming and going before noticing my mistake. Not exactly earth shattering for GAMMA but a stupid mistake none the less.
Paatero Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Giving Osmosis Benn a middleweight title shot, he never makes weight and always beats Buddy Garner by decision. Devalues the middleweight strap and moves up to light heavyweight.

He beat reigning Champion Matthew Dean way back in 2001, of course he didn't make weight. Thinking it was a one off incident i gave Benn another crack at the Middleweight belt, once again Benn won the match but missed weight for the fight.

As punishment i moved Osmosis up to the Heavyweight Division and locked him in the cage against Hassan Fezzik, needless to say Benn didn't win that one.

KholDrum Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Forgot to renegotiate with BJ Penn when he was next in line for the title. He signed with DREAM and did his whole contract with them without taking a single fight. By them time it came up and I re-signed him, he was a shell of his former self.
bigtplaystew Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I messed with the game editor in my first save so I could buy Alpha 1. Then I kept messing with the editor and eventually had 4 companies and tons of fighters with High International popularity that didn't fight for years because once I didnt sign them nobody else could afford them. Epic fail? Luckily i wasn't too far into the game so I just deleted it and created a new save. I still edited a few things that I wanted (mainly camps. I made some stronger camps because I wanted to see more fighter development and I didnt want to edit fighter stats) and I also created a few fighters and imported them into the game. Some people say I still broke the game but I do what I want. I'm sure Adam wouldn't mind or he wouldn't have put an editor within the game save.
dormammu Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011
My biggest mistake was using Delegate on two of the biggest stars in my game. (Royce Gracie and Dan Henderson.) Negotiations broke down with both of them and now Pride FC has the most dominant Middleweight and Light Heavyweight currently in the game. Royce is starting to go downhill (in late 2001) but Henderson is still way better than any other Light Heavyweight. Hopefully he'll start to negotiate with me once his Pride FC contract is up.

So, lesson learned: Don't use delegate on people with big salary demands. (Royce wants in excess of $100 grand a show with a 100% win bonus. Or, at least, that's what Pride gave him. $120,000 per show, to be exact.)
