Inky The Squid Boy
Okay so I've been the biggest company in the UK by quite a margin since 21CW folded. Recently High Impact Wrestling have begun gunning me down and are currently 1 spot behind me on the promotion wars list but that's cool cos they come last in the regional battle every week and we don't compete in terms of talent due to our working agreement NWF have been a thorn in my side since they were founded, inexplicably selling out 1000 seat arenas in every region of the UK when I never have once in my 7 year tenure with ROF and signing up lots of my talent. British Samurai wouldn't allow me to declare war so a few years ago I decided that if I couldn't steal the best talent away from them that way I'd just run my shows the same nights as them. As I've consistently been ranked between 23 and 26 with regional status and they've always been the second last promotion with small status (local at first) it's worked like a charm (they havent had a ref for four years since he's been working for me but their ratings haven't suffered once but thats another complaint altogether) Anyway I just got to my booking screen greatly anticipating tonight's scheduled show. The main event is ROF champion Daniel Black Francis versus Nigel Svensson. The first time these two met it ranked higher than any match in UK history (I checked, even the defunct 21CW didn't top it) so I naturally had great expectations for the sequel. However I couldn't seem to find DBF on the worker list when I came to book the event. Or Nige for that matter. I checked the locker room screen and sure enough both men were slated to be working elsewhere. As was ref Humphrey Woolsey. And Alton Vicious. And Wade Orson. For whatever reason they have all suddenly decided that the second lowest ranked company (small) takes priority over ROF. Rated and ranked much higher. Why has this happened???? The other promotion may be on trend and growing their popularity, and the popularity gains will be boosting their prestige so they'll be growing all the time. If you're not gaining in prestige at a similar rate (most likely by growing in popularity or going up a size) then they've been slowly catching you up all along, especially if they aren't losing anything because they're also being other promotions in regional battles too.

As for you never being able to sell out 1,000+ seats, that's probably because you haven't changed the size of your events. After 7 years I imagine you must be pretty big in the midlands by now... you should be running medium sized events and be able to draw a pretty big crowd. Though from memory ROF is using a product type that is also off trend to begin with AND doesn't play into the fan types with the highest numbers, so that may be why you are struggling.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something else too but it's late and I'm tired, so I'll leave it at that for now. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png">

I don't know if Samurai will let you do that but it would likely allow you to get more fans to your events and increase your sponsorship money... might mean you become more popularity equal performance though, so your show ratings may not do as well.

Also, for match ratings since you have Samurai and hopefully Merle O'Curle too you should be able to get away with using "victor" "open match" and "slow build" "decisive winner" on matches that are 16 minutes or more. That is generally a good combo to use in order to get high match ratings, so that could help you grow and regain #1. Similarly, if you need to build overness on someone have them dominate some matches (preferably with a brute or legitimate gimmick) and they should gain popularity quickly, which will boost all your ratings with them in. A legit athlete gimmick on someone like Merle while he dominates your midcard could see him become huge fairly quickly for you. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png">
Inky The Squid Boy
My match ratings and everything are fine. Merle, Svensson, Daniel Black Francis and Johnny Stones are routinely setting new records for highest rated UK match ever. It was just that one night when they jumped me on the influence and I had no idea. Since then I've paid it more attention and NWF and I are leap frogging one another depending on who won the regional battle that month

Samurai is having my life, basically. I was running two shows a month (1 medium in the midlands and a small in a different region every month) in the hopes of getting a TV deal. I was still turning a small profit but then Samurai starts making demands about getting the money up to $200,000 and that business plan had to be scrapped. Between that and not allowing me to compete directly with NWF when they were still brand new the man's becoming a liability. Never gonna get to Cult status at this rate

Can't complain though. The shows are getting better and better and we're growing all the time (just put on my first ever B rated show. The card even featured Emerald Angel in the semi-main event)
Derek B
In that case, just one last bit of advice.... don't jump to cult until you have a lot more money than you currently do as your cost jump massively and you don't seem to be making money as it is, a problem ROF always has, so you will go bankrupt within months of jumping to cult if you haven't already got a lot of money in the bank. Again, a product shift to one more favourable to bringing in more fans (more mainstream/traditional) and more sponsorship money might go a long way to helping you out in that regard. Though I do feel for you on the owner goals/blocks... they just never understand your vision!
Inky The Squid Boy
Product changes? At ROF? Fuggetabowd it. Last I checked we're still getting a minor boost from realism trending. Of course it doesn't exactly make for a hugely attractive product from a business standpoint

In that case, just one last bit of advice.... don't jump to cult until you have a lot more money than you currently do as your cost jump massively and you don't seem to be making money as it is, a problem ROF always has, so you will go bankrupt within months of jumping to cult if you haven't already got a lot of money in the bank

By the time I do get to cult (if I should say) I should have a decent kitty because its gonna take at least a year or two, should have a few hundred grand by then. We are profitable its just not a massive gain every month but thanks for the advice, I'll make sure to keep an eye on that. I'm reminded of one of my earlier files on a some mod or another where I got a TV deal and the production costs plunged me into the red within three months. That was a harsh lesson to learn
Rick Savant
A few hundred thousand is very likely to be no where near enough, sadly. You want to aim for 5-10 million before jumping to cult...

A company that is making money from their own shows is generally going to be fine at cult as long as they get a PPV deal... it's TV that can really hurt a promotion as despite being a great way to get over the tapings draw smaller crowds than events usually would AND your costs tend to go up too, with little revenue to begin with.

I'd always advise building up at least a million in order to deal with any financial hiccups, but a touring Japanese company that is on trend (like my own one) didn't even have a blip on the finances when going cult as the extra crowds gained from being able to run big events instead of medium ones was enough to off-set my extra costs. But getting a TV deal for an Australian company just as you jump to cult... that could be a recipe for disaster without a good warchest behind you.

For ROF... you're gonna need a lot more than a couple of hundred thousand (probably a couple of million) in the bank for cult, or at least have your home region with massive popularity to potentially be able to make enough money to deal with the rise... and I don't think that would be possible.
