Would you read... a DOA return? [Dynasty Question]

While mulling over a new project, one that is to take place in Las Vegas, I found myself becoming rather bitten by the lovely little 'rebellion that could', Deadly Overloaded Action. To those who have heard of the new project, this doesn't mean that I've abandoned the idea, but I have come to find the eerie similarities between the new creation and my old love in DOA. With that, lately, I keep on seeing too many connections; too many things that make me feel uneasy about jumping into a new realm which feels, at least to me, very in-line with a previous, legacy-strengthening, project of mine.

So, with that in mind, I started to think... Could I bring back DOA?

Creatively; Yes. I tried to bring back 'season II' for the show, in the fall of 2010; however, had it fizzle rather quickly as I had done so much to kill the original feel (thinking I was creating something more interesting; when really not). The Nemesis angle was to be huge BUT it also pulled attention away from Totally Supreme, Matty Sparrow, Cannonball Funk, Greg Black, Donte Dunn, and all of those who MADE the DOA interesting. In turn, it all came to a point where it pretty much became the Eric Tyler vs. Nemesis show.

Writing-wise; Yes. I now, also, realize that my reasoning for losing focus was due to the fact that I stripped away the 'first-person' perspective of the whole thing; going strictly to a show diary in the process. I lost that 'connection' with what, at first, made me LOVE the idea of the DOA... The fact that I could tell a story about a company that wasn't so cliche. In this case, the different scenarios of 'hollywood' made it much more interesting (versus another dark and dingy company room where you could see rats running across the room; ala PSW).

I guess, what I'm asking is, are there readers out there who would be willing to take the jump once again?

I'm thinking of a couple different scenarios (ie: where Greed never left, where someone else other than Nemesis took the reigns, where Nemesis DOES come in yet I focus the attention away from him and more on others, etc.); however, wanted to know if I still had readers out there.

I think, if I did go this route, which is still only in mind, I would create a show backpost within the diary; making it possible for people to catch up with the first 9 episodes done in the original DOA post.

I know it may sound like I'm not really sure what I want to do but, when you put as much energy as I do into a project, you really want to make sure that it's 100% what you're feeling at the time. There's nothing worse than jumping into something that you are sitting on the fence over.

Cheers.

<p>E-V,</p><p> </p><p>

You know very well that I would stand behind whatever project that you decided to run with. Your diaries are always very well thought out and very strong. You have come a very long way within the writing venue from your humble beginnings. You have surpassed many veterans who have been here for much longer, I dare say, even myself included in that. </p><p> </p><p>

Would I read a return of the DOA? In English, yes. In Spanish, Sí. In French, Oui. In Polish, Tak. In Russian, Да. In Redneck, oh hell yeah. I think you get the point, right? lol.</p><p>

It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway, yes, I would read it and the scenario of Greed never leaving sounds amazing <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />. I read everything you right but I was really, really, really, really into DOA, my favourite promotion concept ever and DOA is such a cool name. Everything about DOA was awesome, and I'd love to see it back.

<p>I'd say DOA was probably the most successful of your TEW 2010 diaries. Yes you had a great run with USPW, but DOA was your own creation and from the beginning it was very much an Eisen-verse promotion. Certainly 20LEgend isn't alone in having it their favourite E-V creation.</p><p> </p><p>

I like the idea of disregarding the second season if that's what you'd want to do.</p><p> </p><p>

Something no one else seems to have mentioned (which surprises me) is that I think you should wait and think this one over for a week or two. Perhaps write up a show or two first. You've been wanting to do your Las Vegas promotion for a while, and starting DOA only to discover you still haven't written for the promotion you wanted isn't good for you, or the reader.</p><p> </p><p>

Either way, I'll be a-reading <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

<p>Thank you, all, for such quick responses. As jhd1 said, which I believe myself as well, while PSW 'brought me to the dance' (gaining interest as a writer here in the GDS-forum) the creation of DOA was truly my most favorite, and best, work. Every character was crafted slowly, paying attention to every minute detail in which to better create well-rounded figures. Before that, and ever since, I've struggled to ever surpass what I did with Deadly Overloaded Action; so, I feel as though it's best to continue forward with my most favorite creation (now that I feel as though I'm ready; truly).</p><p> </p><p>

I DO plan on disregarding the thread I had going (4 shows) with Nemesis at the helm. This way, I can do exactly what I'd like to do at this point... A) jump straight from where I left off the first time around or B) create some separation, crafting the season finale for Season One, only to then start 'active' at the start of Season II (like I did attempt with the Nemesis tenure). </p><p> </p><p>

Also, I do plan, 100%, on taking some time as a writer to see where my head is at. So, If you see a DOA diary show up, or another Vegas-based one, then you will know that I've attempted every avenue and feel comfortable with THAT project; no other.</p><p> </p><p>

All in all, thank you for your support guys. </p><p> </p><p>

Cheers.</p><p> </p><p>

The EV promotion at the center of the one of, if not the, best diary I have ever read and undisputedely the diary I have got most into ever. It pretty much led to me posting regularly on the boards, buying TEW10 and had me reading 15 pages on a psp when I didn't have my own laptop. All was worth it, twas awesome. As were the sequels.

It was the diary which got me really into the cornell verse and TEWCommunity.

Going to read some of Season I tommorow after my last exam :D

Truthfully, 20LEgend, that just blew me away. I knew you were a fan of the DOA; however, had no idea that it inspired you that much. Wow...

It's going to take some time to craft (the images, the focus, the database, the angles I want to utilize) but you can totally expect to see it up with time. I really want to give this go a thoughtful, well developed, go; so, I really want to take my time on it; out of respect to the dynasty.

I can say, though, that it will most certainly take place at the start of Season II (like the one I attempted but now am 'forgetting') under the reigns of a new hand at the helm. I warred with the idea of keeping Greed in place but I feel that his departure is a big part of the DOA culture. Now, with the new character I have in mind, there will be a slightly new, more inspired, tone of aggression.

All in all, it's bound to be a great piece once it's all done!

Cheers.

BTW although I see what you're saying about kinda drifting from what DOA was about in season II, I have to say it was still great :)

Thanks 20LEgend. At first, I felt that the Nemesis vs. Eric Tyler storyline was going to be an amazing tell; and it was from a writer's perspective. Sadly, in the end, it became TOO overarching and overtook the rest of the roster (making it impossible to work with those names that made DOA fun for me to write).

If DOA grows with time, I haven't ruled out bringing Nemesis back on board; however, I don't plan on having him there right away (only when he feels right and the game allows me to jump at him). Instead, I'm going to have the new user character bring out the best in people like Moral Majority, Totally Supreme, Greg Black, Acid, etc.

Also, without Nemesis at the helm, the end of Season One will be different than how it was laid out at that point. The way I'm looking at is that Nemesis made those decisions at the end of the season; so, without him there now, there will be different outcomes in the end.

So, the landscape of DOA season II will be a little different than the one presented in the previous attempt at it's continuation; with one glaring difference for sure.

Cheers.

  • 2 weeks later...

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc443/DeadlyOverloadedAction/DOA4.jpg

Coming soon... Season II!

After planning, planning, and more planning, I think that the new project will be up this weekend (late weekend; early next week). I have to write a lot of the intro posts; however, I'll have A LOT of free time over the weekend as my wife is flying home for a few days.

With that said, soon enough will be...
Victor's Rebellion!
;)

Cheers.
