oldog
I am confused as to the meaning of "prestige" as it is used in the game. Does this refer to the football program or the academics of the school?
Tim Plum
Prestige refers to the football program. BAsically the stronger programs have a higher prestige. Better players goto those programs. The 5 star player will more likely go to USC v. Buffalo even if the player is from Buffalo.
jcfreder
Couple of observations: 1) It doesnt appear that a team's prestige changes over time. I would think you would want it to (or at least have an option to do so) in order for a coach to "build" his program. After youve been to the national playoffs a buch of times I would think 5-star guys woul dview the program more favorably. 2) The pstats file appears to have academic prestige blank, which I assume means its randomized or something. I would think that would be something that would be easy to research and put in the game. Not that I know how it would affect it.

Play some more and pay attention to the highly regarded schools that have a horrible string of seasons or teams that play great. I've already noticed Miami has dropped from Excellent to High in my current career. They had back to back 5-6 seasons. Now I'm sure, just like in real life, it is MUCH harder to build a program than to kill one, but I'm sure over time if you can consistently be there the game will take notice. Keep in mind this is a sim, not an arcade game, it is going to be harder.
Guest [Icy]
Prestige changes but it has a numerical value, that is why you could keep seing High after some seasons thinking it didnt' change but it did, just not enought to see a change in the text displayed. About academics prestige, it depends on your players GPA and also changes if i'm not wrong. It starts at zero but changes every season.
jcfreder
I stand corrected. Does anybody know where these numerical changes in prestige can be located and observed in the saved files?

As an example, I started with "Very Low" prestige Akron and was finally able to get the program up to "Low" prestige last night after my 6th season at the helm. Looks like it takes a very long while to build a project up which is realistic and makes for a nice challenge. Needless to say, I was pretty darn happy that I am finally going to see some better recruits being interested in the program than 1 or 2 star players. :)
Tim Plum
Prestige is a hidden value. As many values that you see and don't even know about in the game.
jcfreder
So you wouldnt be able to manually edit the "hidden" prestige once you have begun a game?
SkyDog
So you wouldnt be able to manually edit the "hidden" prestige once you have begun a game?
Yes, you can edit the beginning prestige of a team in pstats.dat. However, as the game goes along, you can't see the numerical value as it changes. One way to know whether it changes (numerically) in a given season is to look at the "Prestige" component of your year-end score. A "C" means that it stayed the same. "A" or "B" means that it rose.
