I have always wondered this ever since I started playing the series back in 08 but I am wondering if Avatars ever die.

Say for instance I pick the Grand Avatar to start my game with and as the game progresses he gets older. I am wondering at a certain age would he die or would he end up being 130 in the distant future of your game?

Avatars can't die as that would mean the end of your game. They can retire though, but I believe it has to be through injury rather than the aging process. :)

I always thought it was either, but as they get older can their skills decrease?

I've never had an avatar retire through age. I've played a few games of a couple of years with avatars in their early 40s who aren't with major companies or particularly over (often the key reasons to stay active) but that doesn't mean it's impossible.

And yes, skills will definitely decline as they would for anyone else. My avatars regular do that from the moment the game begins, usually starting with their camera skills as the most obvious ones to go. :)

Yes, they will retire. Charles Avatar is a nice old 72 year old bum.

But he's not dead.

That's good to know... and now I'm annoyed with myself for not thinking to check the 50 year sim. That's an extremely helpful tool for trying to find out what goes wrong in long term sim games. Not sure if I ever thanked you for that or not, but I've found it to be very helpful... though not so much with the load times, they're pretty brutal. :o

You're...welcome?

Granted, it's only one scenario of hundreds, but...you're welcome?

Load times suck hard. So very hard.

Other things to note from it is that RAW went out of business. I think that's due to its TV at Cult; too many costs killed them.

Just had a look through the data... a very slow look... seems Charles Avatar retired when he was 65, the same age people leave the business at usually. I wonder if that was the reason he retired or if it was other factors.

Was weird looking through it again though... so many starting people dead, with some regens of regens coming through to start their careers. And yet so few of the regens ever reach high levels of popularity (and often skills) due to the various stat problems that have been talked about in other threads. One thing that did stand out was the number of people with 100 stamina... seems the future of the Cornellverse is unathletic, iron men who can really cut a good promo.

But yeah, I don't think anyone else has ever had the patience to sim so far in. I've only ever done 10 years in the main data and 13 in the CV97 to get up to the current day. And those take forever on my not particularly quick computer so I won't be doing that again any time soon. Having a 50 year sim is really handy for picking out flaws with the game... the only thing better would be copies of the same save at a few intermediate points to see how people progress, but if I remember correctly you didn't make copies. And I wouldn't blame you, the files are already huge enough as it is. :p

Reeeeeeaaaally? If you have the time/capacity, it would be awesome if you could share a couple of those too. WinRAR should be able to compress them down fairly well and if you want to shrink the file size even further you could remove the temp and back-up folders from inside the save too. Might make the file sizes manageable for you since all you need to do is replace them afterwards with the right named files to get things working again... I think. :)
