Combat Zone Wrestling: An Ultraviolent Revenge

Recommended Posts

Combat Zone Wrestling has always gotten very mixed opinions from everyone, but the general consensus is that most people want it abolished. Even their own fans seem tired of the product, despite supporting the organization through DVD sales and live attendance. People have tried for 12 years now to try to get CZW shut down. They were driven out of New Jersey, out of Delaware, regulated in Philadelphia, it seems everywhere they go people want them gone.

CZW has always had their share of problems, be it the threat of getting shut down, a rival promotion, distain from the fans over poor booking, CZW has had to persevere through alot. They were fortunate to survive being driven out of the former ECW Arena by XPW, and failed attempts at this by 3PW and PWU. But in the midst of all this, even with financial worries and a crumbling economy, with so many other organizations closing shop, how do they manage to stay afloat?

The reason is they provide a level of entertainment unparalelled by any other company. CZW brings fans the complete package. Though typically known to be only a garbage company, they have brought some of the industries brightest stars national attention. Without CZW, guys like Sonjay Dutt, Jon Moxley, and Necro Butcher may not have gotten the opportunities they were given in their careers. Despite harsh and on occasion, undeserved criticism, CZW has always managed to rise above adversity and continue to do what they do.

But what happens when a new threat is on the horizon? What happens when something from CZW's past comes forward and once and for all, tries to destroy what countless others have tried? Will CZW persevere once again, or will this finally spell the end?

CZW Presents:

Prelude to Violence

June 11th 2011

Ryan Eagles vs. Ty Hagen

The match went at an awkward pace, not very good for an opener. The two didn't seem to mesh well and it really hurt the match.

Winner: Ty Hagen via submission (E+)

Bruce Maxwell vs. Alex Colon

Another mediocre match. Bruce Maxwell showed he does not fair well as a singles wrestler.

Winner: Bruce Maxwell via Pinfall (D-)

Team Maction vs. Super Smash Brothers

Fan favorites SSB made their return against Team Maction. A good solid tag match, nothing outstanding. SSB wins after hitting an innovative tag finish.

Winners: Super Smash Bros (D)

Robert Anthony comes to the ring putting himself over stating that Devon Moore is ducking him and that he deserves a title shot more than anyone else in CZW. Finally, Sonjay Dutt makes a suprise return and after a brief exchange of words, the two begin brawling for a bit. Sonjay makes the challenge to face Anthony later in the show.

(D-)

CZW Wired TV Championship:

Drew Gulak w/ Dewey Donovan vs. Akuma w/ Kimber Lee vs. AR Fox

Good match with some great spots involving AR Fox. Couple of botches from Akuma. AR Fox retains the title after getting the pin on Drew Gulak, much to the delight of the fans.

Winner: AR Fox (D)

Drake Younger vs. Sami Callihan

Much of the match took place on the arena floor as the two exchanged VERY hard shots. Very stiff hard hitting match, yet something was off with both men in the match.

Winner: Drake Younger (D-)

Joker and Sabian are out saying that there is no one left CZW has to offer to defend the Tag Titles against. At that moment, Scotty Vortekz and Danny Havoc come out and make a challenge. Joker and Sabian hesitantly tell them that they haven't done anything to earn a title shot and that they would have to beat them first. Havoc and Vortekz reply stating that if they have to earn their shot, it would be under Ultraviolent Rules.

(E+)

Danny Havoc & Scotty Vortekz vs. Philly's Most Wanted

After a brief buildup, the match was set and it started off hard and heavy. Havoc and Vortekz had a clear advantage and Sabian seemed very out of his element.

Winners: Philly's Most Wanted after a Joker Driver on Havoc on top of a barbed wirae board (D)

Reach for the Sky Ladder Match: #1 Contendership to the Jr. Heavyweight Title

Jake Crist vs. Johnathan Gresham vs. Pinkie Sanchez vs. Rich Swan vs. Ryan McBride vs. tHURTeen

An insane match with tons of crazy spots. Considered to be match of the night. Pinkie Sanchez took an insane bump off of the top of the ladder onto another propped up against the corner. The spot didn't come off the way it should have resulting in Pinkie Sanchez getting injured in the match.

Winner: Jake Crist (D+)

Sonjay Dutt vs. Robert Anthony

Both men seemed to mesh well together, though unfortunately it resulted in an underwhelming match. Neither man worked to their potential. Nothing particularly stood out in the match. Robert Anthony got the win after Sonjay missed a phoenix splash, giving him a chance for a quick rollup holding Sonjay's trunks.

Winner: Robert Anthony. (D)

CZW World Heavyweight Title Match:

Masada vs. Devon Moore

The match had somewhat of a david and golioth story to it. Masada was on the upper hand through most of the match with Devon Moore making small comebacks throughout. After a big comeback Devon Moore was able to get the win on the much larger opponent. Masada visibly frustrated said he planned on taking his frustrations out on anyone who gets in his way at Tournament of Death in 2 weeks.

Winner: Devon Moore (D-)

CZW Presents:

Tournament of Death X

June 25th 2011

Akuma vs. Rich Swan

The two had a decent opener, lots of fast paced spots. Robbie Mireno is coming off as a good pairing for Rich Swan as a manager, he really added alot to the match. Akuma would loose after taking a standing 450 splash from Swan

Winner: Rich Swan (D)

TOD First Round: Light Tube Bundles and Panes of Glass Death Match:

Jaki Numazawa vs. Masashi Takeda

This match had alot of hype surrounding it yet unfortunately didn't deliver. Possibly just a bad pairing for the crowd.

Winner: Masashi Takeda (E+)

TOD First Round: Barbed Wire Boards, Cinder Blocks, and Kenzans Death Match:

Masada vs. Ryuji Ito

Another match that just fell short. Should have been one of the top matches on the card. However the crowd seems somewhat unfamiliar with the BJW guys at this point and it's beginning to hurt the matches.

Winner: Masada (E+)

CZW Wired TV Championship:

Jonathan Gresham vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Ruckus vs. AR Fox

In what would prove to be a real test for AR Fox, having 2 of CZWs' most decarated stars in history in a four way match would prove to be difficult to overcome. All 4 men worked well together and bodies were everywhere. Tons of unique highspots and dives. AR Fox managed to score a huge upset win.

Winner: AR Fox (D)

TOD First Round: Fans Bring The Weapons Death Match:

tHURTeen vs. Danny Havoc

As in their matches prior, these two showed that they are once again an excellent pairing in the ring. The two mesh together so well. Though new to the deathmatch scene, tTHURTeen really stepped up and delievered a good match with the current Ultraviolent Underground champion.

Winner: Danny Havoc (D-)

TOD First Round: Thumbtack Kickpads and Carpet Strips Death Match:

Drake Younger vs. Scotty Vortekz

In a match that almost never fails to deliver, Drake Younger would take on the defending TOD winner Scotty Vortekz. The two had a terriffic match that was considered to be then match of the night. Drake Younger picked up the win after hitting the drakes landing on a pile of carpet strips.

Winner: Drake Younger (D+)

Super Smash Brothers vs. The Briscoes

This was definitely a high point in the show, following the great performance in the match prior, these two teams took it a knotch further. Near the end of the match, both teams were hitting fantastic double team moves and it seemed like it could go either way. In the end, The Briscoes were able to get the win after a doomsday device on Player Dos.

Winner: The Briscoes (C-)

CZW Junior Heavyweight Championship:

Jake Crist vs. Adam Cole

Since winning the title and gaining his arrogant attitude, fans have been hoping for someone to finally come along and take the title away from Adam Cole. Jake Crist seemed to be the man to do it after winning his #1 contendership ladder match the show prior. After several near falls and even interference from Mia Yim, Jake Crist was able to get the win and become the new Junior Heavyweight champion.

Winner: Jake Crist (D-)

After the match, Devon Moore came to the ring saying he doesn't care about his match with Homicide tonight, that he heard Robert Anthony was running his mouth saying Devon was ducking him. He then called out Robert Anthony saying he's right there and he's not running anywhere. Robert Anthony snuck in the ring and attacked Moore from behind, causing a pull apart from the locker room. (D)

TOD Semi Finals: Barbed Wire Madness and Light Tube Bundles Death Match:

Masada vs. Danny Havoc

By this time, after another dissapointing match, it seemed that Masada just wasn't into the show. His poor performance with Ryuji Ito carried over into this match with Havoc as well.

Winner: Masada (E+)

TOD Semi Finals: Tables, Ladders, and Light Tubes Death Match:

Drake Younger vs. Masashi Takeda

Drake once again pulled out a great performance, this time with Masashi Takeda. Both men hit each other with very hard strikes and there were some very sick light tube spots. Takeda was able to pull off a huge upset and defeat Younger to advance into the finals.

Winner: Masashi takeda (D+)

CZW World Heavyweight Championship:

Homicide vs. Devon Moore

The match was going very well throughout as fans believed Homicide may actually beat Devon Moore for the title. Toward the end of the match Robert Anthony tried costing Devon Moore the match by trying to hit him with a chair but instead caught Homicide, allowing Devon Moore to get the win. Following the match, there was alot of tension between the 3 men, so DJ Hyde came out and made the announcement that on CZW's next show, it would be Homicide vs. Robert Anthony vs. Devon Moore for the CZW championship.

Winner: Devon Moore (D-)

TOD Finals: Unlimited Light Tubes, Fans Bring The Weapons No Rope Barbed Wire Match:

Masada vs. Masashi Takeda

Both men by the time this match came around were clearly exhausted and in bad shape physically. The match could have been much better had it been with two fresh men. Fans were already upset with Masada after seemingly phoning it in all night. At one point, Takeda looked like he would win the tournament after giving Masada a huge samoan drop off the top rope into a pile of light tubes. Masada however was able to come back to win the tournament.

Winner: Masada (E+)

so after running this show, it looks like some stats need to be retweaked a little bit. I had to use my imagination on some of these but I couldn't actually put Masada or Jaki Numazawa in deathmatches because Numazawa was afraid he'd get hurt, and Masada kept coming up saying he morally objected to them.

Post show notes coming soon.
