Calling the Dr Who fans

Recommended Posts

I've just been getting some pics together for my QnD temporary cuts, and remembering that we have one or two Whovians on these boards I figured I'd get some pictures for them as well. I managed to get pictures for all of the doctors (besides the 9th) and even managed to get pictures for some enemies and (possible) side characters.

Outside of knowing the doctors and daleks, I don't have any knowledge of who anyone else is, and I require help identifying the names (or at least what kind of anonymous monster they are) so I can properly assign them to the pictures.

While I'm at it, I also have some other non-dr who pictures which need IDing. So if anyone can help with these:

First guy is from a team known as Squadron Supreme (apparently), second one is from DC comics, third is from the Gears of War series, Forth is some character who was resurrected as a Black Lantern (DC), Fifth is from Green Lantern, and Sixth is a Transformer (unsurprisingly)

1) Silence, from this season

2) ???

3) Professor Travers a pretty random character btw

4) & 5) Probably Time Lords of some sort, but their look is too generic. Could be a bad version of The Master, Borusa, Goth, Cho Je, or more.

6) No clue, and it's got a distinctive look, but still no clue

7) Ice Warrior

8) ??? - Not Azal or The Destroyer or The Beast or even Abbadon.

9) Cyberman

10) Draconian

11) The Valeyard

Oh, and the black guy is The Blur, from Squadron Supreme.

Thanks for clearing the ones you could up for me!

If it's any help, 6 & 8 I believe are from classic Dr Who comics (classic Dr Who comic covers/scenes redone with modern art, is how I interpreted it). 6 was also with the 4th Doctor.. 8 was with umm I think it was the 5th doctor.. Maybe 4th.

I think the monster in 8 is also connected to the guys in 4 & 5 because I think the original cover had him behind them (sorry, I haven't got it at hand though :/ )

I agree with you, he looks like the Black Guardian to me as well. Then again I have never read the comics for the show so I am just going by what I recall from the television show and it has been like ten years or more since I saw those episodes.

Just digging this back up since I stumbled across a good number of Dr Who art pieces, I'm curious (as someone who's only ever watched the occasional Dr. Who episodes back when I was a kid) as to how you'd stat the Doctors out in general. Because--and I could be wrong here--they're not really fighters per se, are they? I mostly remember them running away from the villains

In other words, in CBH (and TEW to a degree, since I've still got that mod going) what would you want to do with the doctors? Would you want them to be going out there and mixing it up mano-a-mano with the daleks and cybermen, or would it make more sense to put them in some kind of support position?

As someone who fell in love with the "new" Doctor Who on BBCAmerica and has run through the meager Netflix selections of the old doctor, I would put his intellect off the scale with the rest of his stats pretty low. He'd fall under the "think your way out of things" as opposed to Superman who is a "punch your way out of things". And considering "RUNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!" is one of the almost-weekly lines on the show, yes he runs away from pretty much every villain.

Though come to think of it, Doctor Who is a pretty personally non-violent place (very little fighting, shooting, etc except for the Daalecks). Much more of a global attack if there are attacks. Much more psycological show than action show with stuff blowing up twice an episode. Which is one of the reasons it is one of my favorite shows right now.

Ah Doctor Who the only thing that would get me to get this game, anyway

In regard of the pics could 8 be the Melanicus from The Tides of Time, and if you say 4 and 5 are from the same strip them 4 might be Rassilon and could be either Morvane or Bedevere as they were time lords in the same strip.

In regard to the personality of the Doctor it depends on his regeneration really but generally he tends not to be that violent, their were a few exceptions over time but he tended to think of solutions rather than duke it out. I think the most aggressive was the third doctor who used aikido but that’s about it.

Thanks a bunch for that! I think you're definitely right about Rassilon and Melanicus. And I think the other one is Merlin the Wise. I never would have figured it out otherwise!

The Doctor always preferred to run rather than fight. Not that he wasn't capable if he was forced to defend himself (especially Jon Pertwee's Doctor, #3, who knew Venusian Aikido and wasn't afraid to get physical, which is a bit funny considering he looked a bit like Liberace with his outfits). Some of his companions were also able fighters (K9 with his nose laser, the Highlander Jamie McCrimmon, the savage Leela, Ace in the novels). The TARDIS Index File is a pretty good wiki for info on Classic Who, by the way.

But who wants to be the Doctor when you could be the most awesome companion ever, Jamie McCrimmon?

Note to self: Make a Centurion character first thing...

Changed that for you, because everyone knows Jamie would kick Rory's butt.

As to the Doctor and his personalities:

Like Vladamire said Doctor number three was a bit of a fighter. I think you could also put the ninth Doctor down as a fighter as well. After all he did destroy two races.

Doctor's Two, Seven, Ten, and Eleven were more of the Comic Relief Doctors (well they are in my opinion).

The First and Sixth Doctor's were more gruff but I would not consider them fighters. The First and Fifth Doctor's were the more cerebral version of the Doctor.

As for the Tom Baker version well I think he is a bit all over the place. Granted it has been about 15 years or so since I saw a Tom Baker episode.

Great info in here guys (well it is for a non-Whovian like myself anyway). I'm still not really sure where that actually leaves us for implementing them in CBH (or TEW), but hopefully Adam is a Dr. Who fan (by default coming from Britain, right?) and there'll be somewhere they'll slot in nicely

As a thanks, here's some of the cuts I recently did:

(I'll be putting them onto the red background quick & dirty 400x600's for the final game eventually)

No offence but there are a bit more of a classification to Daleks and Cybermen.

1. Supreme Dalek (New Series) also known as Supreme One

2. Supreme Dalek (Classic Series)

3. Dalek Emperor (Dalek Chronicles) - not 100% sure if that time line is meant to mix with the Dr Who timeline.

4. Standard Dalek (Movie)

5. Standard Dalek (Classic I)

6. Standard Dalek (Classic I)

7. Standard Dalek (Classic II) or it could be a Supreme Dalek not completely sure but due to its colouring it’s a different class to the standard Daleks but due to the slats on the body it’s the second Dalek casing.

7. Special Weapons Dalek

8. Imperial Dalek

9. Intelligent Dalek (Movie) isn’t really a named class but due to its colouring its not a general Dalek and its higher up on the food chain.

10. Dalek Emperor (Movie)

11. Intelligent Dalek (Movie) see 9.

1. Cyber-Leader/Cyber-Lord/CyberKing not 100% sure also that is the Pete’s World universe form.

2. Cyber-Controller (2nd Appearance)

3. Cyber-Controller (1st Appearance)

4. Cyberman (Mondas) that seems to be somewhere between Tenth Planet and Moonbase.

If your going to do pics for Doctor Who I’d say it would be a lot easier especially for the non human/humanoid pics to take them from the TV show.

Also slight personal request here, any chance of Beep the Meep?

That's fricking fantastic! Many of them were fanarts so I wasn't sure, although I did track down a color scheme guide which put me in the rough ball park area (hence I did actually manage to get Supreme Dalek and Emperor Dalek ;)). Some of them (especially the cyber controllers) were a complete shot in the dark for me though :D

As for my OCD nature of wanting all the pictures in my mods to have some forms of consistency I only cut hand/digitally-drawn artwork (which is why it takes me so long to track things down). Heck I even paid someone to do a couple of pictures for my upcoming TEW update, just because I couldn't find any reasonable images for a couple of characters I wanted represented :p

That aside, I should be able to do Beep the Meep for you no probs

Just to add, the Cyberman you posted in the first batch was a Mondas Cyberman as well. Since you're unfamiliar with Who, Cybermen come in two types. The ones in Classic Who come from the Planet Mondas, which was the Tenth in our solar system and twin to our own Earth. Unlike Earth however, Mondas moved away from the sun on an elliptical orbit (sort of like some comets). As it grew colder the Mondasians, who were technologically superior to Earth humans, cybernetically altered themselves to survive. They would later return and attempt to claim the earth as their own only to be beaten by the First Doctor (in the story "The Tenth Planet"). This would lead to the eventual downfall of their race as a whole after a ruinous war with humanity (due in part to the discovery of an alien world rich in gold and the creation of "glitter guns"), although they would make frequent enough appearances to make trouble for the Doctor. Mondas Cybermen have an odd weakness to gold, especially gold dust which clogs their breathing systems.

Pete's World Cybermen hail from an alternate dimension and are the primary Cybermen in New Who. They're more like ST Borg than their Classic counterparts and are not weak to gold. They're also colder and more programed machine-like than the Mondas type (who could occasionally show a bit of emotion).

Oddly, they're functioning in the same time stream and active in the same time, so it should be possible to meet either.

As to how to handle the Doctor in a game like this, I'd have him (them) as a semi-regular Supporting Character, someone who can provide scientific knowledge to the player while not actively fighting (while the player's character is a member of Torchwood or UNIT or the like and not bound by the Doctor's passivise way of doing things. Heaven knows UNIT has certainly thrown enough ammo at aliens to fund a third world dictatorship. For all the good it did them most of the time. Just ask the Brigadier! :p) This has history behind it, the second, third and fourth Doctors all worked with UNIT as a Scientific Adviser (especially #3, almost all of his run was in this role as the TARDIS was non-functional at the time. He even occasionally used the name "John Smith" to fit into Earth culture). Think Professor X with more running and less psychic powers. ;)

On the subject of requests I have two (and if you can add them I'll love you forever :p) Sutekth the Destroyer and his Mummies (from "Pyramids of Mars", my all time favorite Who story).

There are a lot of sources you could try, a lot of the books have drawn covers, the majority of Target Books have drawn covers, there is also the Virgin Missing Adventures although that’s more pot luck really.

In regards to comic books I think the best places to look would be TV Comic, TV21 and Doctor Who Magazine all had good comics at a decent workable size I guess its just trying to fine the pics.

Not sure what your looking for in terms of source images but could these work, also the first one is your missing mummy.
