- Also I dont really have a fancy backstory, so lets just pretend Crockett was fired and um.... John Candy was hired (which in reality wouldnt be too far fetched in the old days of the NWA/WCW) lol -

great time for wcw/ nwa/ jcp... consider me glued to see what happens

Funny you should respond first... I just got seriously into your WWWF diary! You've actually been a big inspiration, as this diary will be more like yours (in the sense where you may not see an update for a bit, but then when I have more time there will be a bunch). Still gotta bit more to read there though.

Thx for the support dude

JJE,

You know I'll be reading. You were always a supporter when I did the old school NWA diaries. Looking forward to seeing what you do here. As I recall, I enjoyed some of the other diaries you've come up with. Looking forward to it!

Indeed! Hopefully I can stick with this one though LOL

As epic as your NWA diaries were though... the one I wish you would have stuck with the most though was the Invasion one. To my knowledge, there's never been that awesome invasion diary with that dream wrestlemania done before . . NEEDS to happen.

NWA News, Rumors and Notes

Tuesday, September 1989 - Week One

http://i526.photobucket.com/albums/cc347/flamesnoopy/JohnCanWHO.jpg

- The new regime in the National Wrestling Alliance says there are some major changes coming, both from within the company itself and for the entire product as a whole. Today they announced the cancellation of NWA Worldwide. Newly aquired head booker John Candy then went on to state that World Championship Wrestling will however be bumped up to two being a two-hour broadcast, while the NWA Power Hour is set to remain exacly as is. The general feeling is that the World Championship Wrestling show will primarily feature the companys main attractions, while the Power Hour will begin to focus mainly on younger talent and getting them some televised exposure.

- Rumor has it that there are indeed quite a few 'Hidden Gems' out there that the company does have their sights set on. This would obviously mean some roster cuts could most certainly be on the way as well.

- The NWA World Television Title is still vacant. Though it has been announced that an eight-man tournament will take place to crown a new champion, beginning on the September 16th edition of World Championship Wrestling. Both Sting and The Great Muta have been confirmed as the first two participants in the tournament itself, and the other six spots will be determined by a series of qualifying matches. On a side note, there is also a heavy rumor going around that the NWA is considering bringing back the United States Tag Team Titles, though nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

- The weekly televised lineup has been announced. It goes as follows . .

NWA Power Hour - Week 1

Al Perez Vs. "The Z-Man" Tom Zenk

Norman The Lunatic Vs. Jason Knight

"Wild" Bill Irwin Vs. "Hotstuff" Eddie Gilbert

Bam Bam Bigelow Vs. The Junk Yard Dog

NWA World Championship Wrestling - Week 1

The Skyscrapers Vs. The Dynamic Dudes

Cactus Jack Vs. Flyin' Brian Pillman

The Varsity Club Vs. The Midnight Express

Non Title: "Dirty" Dick Slater Vs. "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair

"Magnum" Scott Hall Vs. "Wildfire" Tommy Rich

Michael "P.S" Hayes Vs. Scott Steiner

Terry Funk Vs. Sting

Predictions Welcome :D

Bam Bam Bigelow Vs. The Junk Yard Dog

NWA World Championship Wrestling - Week 1

The Skyscrapers Vs. The Dynamic Dudes

Squash time.

Cactus Jack Vs. Flyin' Brian Pillman

I really had no idea which way to go on this one, I'm going with Brian solely because I feel like he could be a solid contender for the TV belt sooner than Cactus will.

The Varsity Club Vs. The Midnight Express

If the MX get a solid push, I'll love this diary.

Non Title: "Dirty" Dick Slater Vs. "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair

This can be all the non-title it wants to be, Slater won't be winning.

"Magnum" Scott Hall Vs. "Wildfire" Tommy Rich

Hehe...Magnum... with the porn stache and everything.

Michael "P.S" Hayes Vs. Scott Steiner

Scott is your future, so treat him well.

Terry Funk Vs. Sting

I'm guessing Funk wins by Muta interfering.

NWA Power Hour - Week 1

Al Perez Vs. "The Z-Man" Tom Zenk

Urgh... I hate Z-Man... even if I am pushing him in the Can-Am Connection right now (THAT is how awesome Rick Martel is...)

Norman The Lunatic Vs. Jason Knight

Squishy

"Wild" Bill Irwin Vs. "Hotstuff" Eddie Gilbert

I'm hoping Gilbert goes on to the good things his creative mind deserved

Bam Bam Bigelow Vs. The Junk Yard Dog

Nice main event. Bam Bam has more promise at this time. JYD is on his way to wrestling's great cat & dog home...

NWA World Championship Wrestling - Week 1

The Skyscrapers Vs. The Dynamic Dudes

Sid & Spivey get ready for the Warriors by beating up Animal's little brother

Cactus Jack Vs. Flyin' Brian Pillman

Tough one to call but my money's on Cactus getting himself DQ'd

The Varsity Club Vs. The Midnight Express

Another toughie but The Midnights are the Midnights.

Non Title: "Dirty" Dick Slater Vs. "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair

This will be a good match. Slater's still a cracking worker and this is deep in Flair's broomstick period

"Magnum" Scott Hall Vs. "Wildfire" Tommy Rich

Tommy Rich's popularity always baffled me. Here's hoping Magnum gets an early push

Michael "P.S" Hayes Vs. Scott Steiner

I figure the Road Warriors are going to be involved in the title picture soon, they'll need heels to run through and Hayes is by far the stronger of the two Freebirds. I can see a win here and Garvin losing the return.

Terry Funk Vs. Sting

This has got Sports Entertainment written all over it with Muta & Flair getting involved

NWA Power Hour - Week 1

Al Perez Vs. "The Z-Man" Tom Zenk

Z-Man walks away with a win here to give momentum elsewhere.

Norman The Lunatic Vs. Jason Knight

Norman squashes the future ECW wrestler

"Wild" Bill Irwin Vs. "Hotstuff" Eddie Gilbert

One of my favorites from back in the day. I could see this match in 1991 and in GWF. lol.

Bam Bam Bigelow Vs. The Junk Yard Dog

A tough one to pick but Bigelow is probably the safer choice.

NWA World Championship Wrestling - Week 1

The Skyscrapers Vs. The Dynamic Dudes

The Skyscrapers squash the Dudes. Then beat down Johnny Ace and it is revealed that Ace is Animal's brother as the Road Warriors come down to make the save. No? Scrapers still win. :D

Cactus Jack Vs. Flyin' Brian Pillman

Pillman showed more upside at this point in time.

The Varsity Club Vs. The Midnight Express

The Varsity Club wins, slowly moving the Express toward that much-needed heel turn.

Non Title: "Dirty" Dick Slater Vs. "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair

Whooooooo!

"Magnum" Scott Hall Vs. "Wildfire" Tommy Rich

Rich was more well-known at this point in time. Though Hall will have his day.

Michael "P.S" Hayes Vs. Scott Steiner

Both top guys on their team but I rank Rick higher than Jimmy Jam so Hayes takes the win here.

Terry Funk Vs. Sting

Funk is the top contender to the World title. Sting is slowly coming into his own at this point. But he's not quite there.

NWA Power Hour - Week 1

Al Perez Vs. "The Z-Man" Tom Zenk

I for one, like Al Perez... and didnt really like the Z-Man all that much... this might be considered an upset

Norman The Lunatic Vs. Jason Knight

Love to see if you get get Mike Shaw over , better than WCW did during this era

"Wild" Bill Irwin Vs. "Hotstuff" Eddie Gilbert

Eddie has so much potential, in whatever capacity you try and use him in

Bam Bam Bigelow Vs. The Junk Yard Dog

Believe JYD has seen his best days about 5 or 6 years ago.. Bam Bam could be the future... The fact theat WCW didnt capitilize during this era on him was a shame

NWA World Championship Wrestling - Week 1

The Skyscrapers Vs. The Dynamic Dudes

Sorry Shane & Johnny... Big guys always beat little guys

Cactus Jack Vs. Flyin' Brian Pillman

Im goin gto go with Pillman , perhaps by DQ here

The Varsity Club Vs. The Midnight Express

The Varsity Club was such a great team, SO were the Midnights, but they were better as heels so will go with Varsity Club

Non Title: "Dirty" Dick Slater Vs. "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair

Id love to see Slater grab a non-title win, to thrust him into main event scene... But have a hard time buying that for 1989

"Magnum" Scott Hall Vs. "Wildfire" Tommy Rich

More upside for Hall

Michael "P.S" Hayes Vs. Scott Steiner

due to outside interference by Garvin...

Terry Funk Vs. Sting

a win by Funk keeps atop the rankings and hot for a match with Flair

Thanks guys for the predictions so far. Just a sidenote about this diary so everyone knows. World Championship Wrestling will be written up in a little more detail than the NWA Power will be (based on the fact that it really is my marquee show). I figure I can move things along a little quicker this way as well.

Also, I wanna know if you guys would like me to post in the weekly news feed all the hirings/firings around the wrestling world, along with the results of the bigger promotions. Or should 'Kayfabe return' here too like in TheBlake's WWF 1989 diary? I'm literally 50/50 on this issue and will go with the majority, even if its by one vote.

Thanks again guys :D
