WWE Civil War: Smackdown

Recommended Posts

This thread will be following all things Smackdown in the new two-player game between myself and Charasmatic Enigma, set in 2002.

20LEgend will be playing as Smackdown

Charasmatic Enigma will be playing as RAW

The year is 2002; pro-wrestling in North America has just emerged from its latest war for dominance. Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Entertainment is once again the only sizable promotion left in the US, not only winning the war but buying his two biggest competitors WCW and ECW. Despite this, Vince McMahon was under growing pressure from WWE shareholders.

The dream Invasion angle, that many a wrestling fan had salivated over for decades, had been booked terribly and was dead in the water within 6 months of starting. After this, shareholders were questioning whether the new lack of competition would affect the quality of the product, and subsequent profits.

Worried by the shareholders lack of faith, Vince McMahon decided he had to do something and create his own competition. He established two separate brands within the WWE, each with their own roster and management structure. The two brands would compete directly against each other, both for viewership and funding from the WWE. McMahon hired two new head bookers, one for each brand, and set each the task of producing the better quality show and bringing in the most money.

Would the brand split lead to an increase in quality and profits, or cause the WWE to fracture from within? The Civil War within the WWE has begun…

WWF Friday Night Smackdown!

<hr>

The show kicks off with the music of The Rock. He makes his way down to the ring to a huge ovation from the crowd. He takes a microphone and wait for the crowd to die down.

“Finally... The Rock has come back... to Pittsburgh! Finally... The Rock has come back to Friday Night Smackdown!

And tonight The Rock proves to everyone tonight, that he is the most electrifying man in all of Sports Entertainment AND show the world why The Rock was draft pick number 1!

You see The Rock saw 60 other guys get pick and he saw Vinnie Mac bring 29 more over to The Rock's show, he saw all there candy asses, and knows he can whoop them all. Smackdown is The People's Show, it's is The Rock's sho...”

The Rock is interrupted by a very familiar song “NO CHANCE THAT'S WHAT YOU'VE GOT!”

Vince McMahon stands at the top of the ramp with a microphone of his own.

“No, Rock this is my show god dammit! I had a few announcements for the end of tonight, but if you insist on being the centre of attention then so be it, they can wait, because tonight I'm lining up a mystery opponent for you, and I'm sure the
people
are going to love it. Now get out of the ring, we've got a 10 man battle royal for qualification to the world title match a Judgement Day!”

The Rock raises his eyebrow...

“So, you've got one of those 29 jabronies, to grow a set of balls and take The Rock on, and it's a mystery is it Vince? Well The Rock doesn't need to know whose ass he is whooping tonight, because whoever it is going to up against The Rock and the millions.... (and millions) And Millions of The Rock's fans, and I am ready to lay the Smackdown on his Candy Ass! As for your little battle royal it's pointless. Because in 2 months time at Judgment Day The Rock will become the first ever WWF World Heavyweight Champion... If you Sme-lelelelelelelelelelelleelelelell... what The Rock is cookin'!”

The Rock's music hits and the commentators talk about the main event and the battle royal up next, which will lead to a triple threat at Judgement Day for a new WWE World Championship.

Ten Man Battle Royal – World Title Qualifying Match

The ten contestants were: Albert, Chavo Guerrero Jr., Christian, Farooq, Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle, Mike Awesome, Scotty 2 Hotty and Steven Richards.

After an uneventful match we were down to a strong last four Christian, Kurt Angle, Albert and Jeff Hardy. Albert went over to the top rope next and Christian followed his momentum taking him over the top rope. This left Jeff Hardy and Kurt Angle, the crowd were behind the home town hero and he began to clinically take apart Jeff Hardy, and almost to seriously injured Jeff with an Angle Slam to the apron. Angle then charged at Hardy and knocked him back into the guardrail hard. Kurt was the last remaining!

After that we headed to Vince McMahon's brand new office and his first meeting appeared to be with Edge who had a request for Vince.

“Hey, Mr. McMahon, this whole war with Raw it needs a signal of intent, something huge to make everybody watch in awe! Who better to do that than me, Edge, and don't worry about finding me an opponent because that scum bag Christian is the perfect person for me to beat the crap out of... So when do I go on, sir.”

Vince had barely looked up as Edge spoke

“Listen, Edge, I've said it once I'll say it again. This is MY show and I decide what's happening so tonight in the second to last match, you will have a match [Edge smiles] but instead it will be against Kevin Nash. Now get the hell out of here.

Edge left the office while not getting what he went in for he still seems pleased with the outcome.

WWF European Championship Match – William Regal © vs. Rikishi

This match went back and forth but the result was a retained championship and a successful defence. He finished off a good match with the help of his trusty Brass Knuckles, to the head of the big man!

Rating:

After the match, William Regal took a microphone.

“This, this is what you've got for me? This great, big, fat bloody buffoon, to challenge for Smackdown's premier title, is this some sort of bloody joke? Never mind that, I'll take this into my own hands, so here it is. Next week, on Smackdown I challenge anybody to come and face the top champion on Smackdown. As it should be Europe reign supreme here in the WWF and I'll prove it by beat any ghastly loser who want to take me on.”

Al Snow & Mark Henry vs. Scott Hall & X-Pac

This was a random match it seemed and X-Pac and Hall dominated from start to end using questionable tactics, in the process. The match was short and Al Snow was pinned by X-Pac. Mark was too slow and even though the match was over he tried to break it up.

Rating:
C-

X-Pac and Hall took exception to this despite it being a mistake and kicked Snow out of the ring and started beating down onto Mark Henry. Then used the number game to destroy Henry in the ring as if using him as a symbol of what they can do. With their back to the ramp they didn't see D'Lo Brown run down with a chair in his hand, but as soon as they did, they ran away leaving Brown to check on Mark in the ring. The crowd cheered the previously heel D'Lo.

Kane vs. Test

The next match was a preview of next weeks Battle Royal in a way with two of the guys going into the match facing off one on one. This match was better than expected and the two gave good account of themselves going into the big match. Test tried many screwy tactics, but Kane came out on top winning with a huge chokeslam to get the win. Test looked angry after the match nd went to get a chair to attack Kane before thinking better of it.

<hr>

We once again cut away to the back where Michael Hayes had a microphone.

“I'm stood by one of the competitors in tonight's main event. With me at this time is The Rock. Rock, how do you feel about the mystery challenger tonight's main event? Do you feel you are at a disadvantage going into this match?”

The Rock snatches the microphone from Hayes.

“Let's get one things straight Michael, The Rock NEVER goes into a match at a disadvantage, but I am The Great One. As for a mystery challenger? I look at the thirty men on this roster, and none – not one – of them can really challenge The Rock. Just like at Judgement Day nobody will be able to challenge The Rock. Because I am the best and when all is said and done The Rock will be The World Heavyweight Champion. SO play all the games you want Vince, because The People's champ WILL reign again.”

The Rock walks away leaving Hayes to send back to ringside.

Edge vs. Kevin Nash

Edge and Nash had an awkward match it wasn't what was expected and fell below expectations. They really did not click. This limited the match to try anything really good and it was saved when Christian came out and hit Edge with a chair. Edge won by DQ.

Rating:
C

After the match Nash left acting as if to say “whatever, let 'em at it” Christian dragged Edge across the ring using the turnbuckles to bust Edge open. He went to the outside and brought in another chair and a microphone. He placed them down and dropped Edge on to the chair with an Unprettier. With Edge unconscious he hit a one man con-chair-to and Edge laid unconscious bleeding heavily from his head. Christian took his microphone.

“Request a match against me? You don't want it Edge!” Christian threw the microphone down on Edge's abdomen and left, leaving EMTs to stretcher Edge out.

<hr>

The commentators spoke about the attack but said the show must go on. With Rock in the ring they said it was time to meet his oppoenent...

With an unknown voice saying “It's Me! It's Me!” and the music playing it was clear the opponent was DDP. He came out and said “I'm the real people's champion Rock! Just you wait and see!” He help up the diamond and It was time for the match.

The Rock vs. Diamond Dallas Page

The match went back and forth and saved this show from being a flop. With good angles but bad matches this really delivered to pick the show up and The Rock made sure he came out on top, with a Rock Bottom following an attempted Diamond Cutter. He followed up with The People's Elbow and pinned DDP for the win to end the show!

Truth is I have quiet a few storylines with a 2 month gap between pay-per-views I looked through my plans and I had no spot for it. Who knows there could be a rematch at Wrestlemania for all anyone knows, maybe not we'll see how it lands :) I know I threw it away but I'm sure I can get a decent PPV match out of it. (If I'm honest I was worried it would get a low rating :o)

Heh okay, fair enough. Like I said: I'm a big DDP mark, and it always angered me that WWE wasted him the way they did. I always felt a grand feud between him and The Rock could have been a moneymaker. :)

Thank God for the bloody Englishman,

Ah okay, I thought it would have been higher. I can see why you aren't having him headline a PPV against The Rock at his current overness level.

I've got time to get him over and I have a plan that I want to discuss with Charismatic Enigma that judging from a previous post you might like.

WWF Friday Night Smackdown!

<hr>

The shows starts with Vince McMahon's music playing Michael Cole makes note that Vince has some announcements to make that he delayed last week. Lawler said that it is expected he will make them now. Vince made it to the ring and took a microphone from the ring announcer.

“First off, welcome everybody to the premier show in all of sports entertainment. Welcome to Smackdown! I'm here because last week, The Rock needed a bit of the spotlight and me being the humble man that I am, I allowed him to massage his own ego. But tonight I will make my announcements beginning with adding a third member to the Smackdown announce team, so please welcome Mike Tenay.”

Tenay came down to a decent response and went to shake Vince's hand. Vince hold him to go and do his job. Cole welcomed Tenay while Lawler made fun of him.

“The best announcer in the business aside I have some announcements regarding things that will be happening in this very ring! So my first revelation Is that at Judgement Day we will see a 4 Way Tag Team Match to crown the new champions. These positions will be filled by the first four tag teams to who apply... There is one condition, those teams
must
have held tag team championships before. Hold your applause! Because I have one more situation to address with that little punk Jeff Hardy.”

The crowd cheer Hardy's name.

“That being that last week when he was eliminated last fair and square by the future World Champion Kurt Angle, Angle hurt him. And Jeff is unhappy about it. At first I told him life isn't fair but he wouldn't have it. He wants a match with Kurt angle and I know he won't shut up until he Is made to. So, tonight in the main event Kurt Angle takes on Jeff Hardy, and Kurt, please make sure you shut that god dam punk up, or even better make him scream in pain from the Ankle Lock!”

After Vince leaves the ringside area, William Regal walks to the ring and takes the microphone off the announcer, much like Vince did. He gets in the ring and looks up the ramp.

“Last week, as you'll all remember I beat the snot out of that blubbery, blonde buffoon by the name of Rikishi. After the match I issued an open challenge to someone, in fact to bloody anyone to be honest, with a bit more integrity than that, [he looks infuriated] that dancing bloody fool Rikishi!”

He takes a moment to cool down, his disdain for Rikishi is clear.

“And now is the time so whoever want to come and take me on, if you can ensure to me we can have a good, proper fight then show yourself.”

William Regal watches the ramp and out comes Jamie Knoble, making his WWF début. William looks at him and chuckles.

“What the bloody hell are you? Did nobody bloody feed you as a boy, young man”

Knoble gets into the ring and rips the microphone away from Regal and starts hitting him officially starting the match.

WWF European Championship Match – William Regal © vs. Jamie Knoble

The crowd were behind Knoble after he shut up the Englishman Regal and for the early stages of the match Knoble took control displaying some excellent skill and only letting up when Regal slid himself out of the ring. For the next few minutes they went back and forth in some excellent technical wrestling, and it was clear Regal was starting take Knoble seriously. With Regal in trouble he resorted to his usual tactics, while Knoble had him in a sleeper hold Regal took his Brass Knuckles out. The referee spotted them and “confiscated” them from Regal. As the referee went to take them out of the ring Regal hit a low blow to Jamie Knoble with his heel and ran at him with a Running Knee to retain his championship.

After the match we went backstage where Scott Hall and X-Pac were in the locker room almost ready for their match. They spotted the camera and spoke into it. X-Pac who is in the next match spoke first.

“Hey, Mark... D'Lo tonight you're going to get destroyed by the X to the P to the A to the C, because X-Pac is in the house.”

Hall then takes over. He doesn't really seem all there

“That's right Chico! Up next Sean is going to beat you... We are the N.W.O and that means we're for life. So tonight we'll beat you, and then kick your asses some more!”

D'Lo Brown w/ Mark Henry vs. X-Pac w/ Scott Hall

This match went back and forth with Scott Hall making sure to be in the action as much as possible. Mark and Scott also brawled on the outside, and those two face off up next in the battle royal. Back in the ring D'Lo was overpowering X-Pac until on a powerslam the referee was distracted by Hall and Pac slid down and pushed Brown into him knocking him down. With the referee out Hall pulled a bottle out of his pocket and threw it to X-Pac who sprayed something in Brown's eyes, Hall kept Henry outside with a chair and as the referee came around he counted three, Henry missed breaking it up by a second.

After the match the four continued to brawl until security came to break them up. In this time Mark Henry had performed a huge slam to X-Pac to the steel ramp and he was in a bad way. Henry and Hall had to stay and where held apart as they had a match next, as we head to the back.

Michael Hayes is stood by with The Rock.

“Rock, tonight the second of the three competitors will join the three way at Judgement Day, who do you think will walk out on top tonight?”

The Rock looks at him and raises an eyebrow.

“What do you think, Dok?”

“Well, I...”

“It doesn't matter what you think! It doesn't matter what anybody thinks because next month at Judgement Day three men walk into the ring, that much is guaranteed, but the fact is The Rock will be the only one walking out as the new... WWF World Heavyweight Champion. You can give The Rock Kurt Angle, Kane, Undertaker, Test, Edge, Al Snow and Tajiri and I will ALL their candy asses. And when all is said and done The Rock will remain top of the WWF, because The Rock is the most electrifying man in ALL of Sports-Entertainment. So bring all you've got, Vince help brown nose Kurt Angle get to the main event because there isn't anybody who can beat... [He takes his shades off] The Rock, oh and Ric Flair you need to shut your whiny mouth, because if to beat the man you have to beat the man, take a look at Wrestlemania 18 and look who The Rock beat 1,2,3 in the centre of the ring ... Ten Man Battle Royal – World Title Qualifying Match

The ten contestants were: Al Snow, Goldust, Kane, Matt Hardy, Mark Henry, Tajiri, Test, The Undertaker, Scott Hall and Rikishi.

After a battle royal which Kane and The Undertaker had dominated the final four came down to Test, Undertaker, Kane and Scott Hall. Kane and Test had brawled all the way through, after their match last week but when they were attempting to eliminate each other they teamed up as Hall tried to dispose of both of them. They tipped him out only for immediately Test to follow. At this point Kane had 5 eliminations to Undertaker 3 (the other being Scott Hall eliminating Mark Henry, who devoted all of the match to each other.) Taker and Kane faced off in the middle of the ring only for Test to grab Kane's hair. Kane turned around and The American Bad Ass took the opportunity of the easy win. The crowd booed as Taker stood alone in the ring, and Kane chased to the back.

<hr>

We went to the back where Christian was on screen.

“Hey, Edge tonight you take on a mystery opponent, what's cool, and it all seems to fit into place doesn't it Edge. I have no match, you have a mystery challenger. I'll be there Edge, I'll be there.”

The APA vs. The Zoo Crew

This match showed APA as a dominant force with Albert not being able to get in the match much Scotty 2 Hotty was dominated by the APA for most of the match. Albert made a brief comeback but by then he was faced with 2 on 1 odds, as Scotty was out of it. While he was doing okay Goldust came out on the ramp and said “Prince”. Albert turned around and when he turned back Bradshaw hit a Clothesline From Hell for the victory.

Bradshaw takes the microphone.

“Well, who else are we facing?... Vince who else has took the challenge!”

Vince shakes his head at Bradshaw.

“The reason I made it a confidential challenge is because you don't need to know who you're facing. It's entirely up to whoever is challenging to make that call Bradshaw? [Raises his voice] And don't you ever raise your voice at me you son of bitch!”

After that match Edge made his way to the ring. Thinking he was facing Christian. As Christian walked down the ramp, Edge couldn't wait to face him. Christian, however walked straight past and joined commentary. Edge then got ad and was shouting for his opponent to come out... some vaguely familiar music played and out came Eddie Guerrero.

“Hey, ese, you're not facing Christian holmes, you're facing Latino Heat.”

Eddie makes his way to the ring making sure to incite the fans on the way down.

Christian: “He's back in the WWF! And he's going to kick Edge's ass, haha.”

Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero

This was a great match and was main event worthy. Eddie Guerrero made sure to bend the rules and Edge struggled, constantly looking over to Christian. Once they got into it Edge was focussed and they had a great back and forth match until the referee was distracted by Christian. Eddie used this knowing Edge was also looking at Christian to hit a low blow on Edge. He dropped him with a vertical suplex and ended it with a Flog Splash. The crowd booed both of the cheating parties and chanted for Edge.

“Kurt, tonight after much persuasion, Jeff Hardy has managed to get a match against you in the main event, following what he saw as you trying to injure him last week. You may not like him, but you have to respect him, right?”

Kurt laughs at Hayes and takes the microphone.

“Listen, Michael, respect is earned. I earned respect by winning these gold medal [he points to them Hayes rolls his eyes,] you see I stand for Intelligence, Integrity, and Intensity , none of which Jeff Hardy displays. So, Michael I don't respect him. His bright coloured hair and high risk move set don't fool me. I am the best in the world and I will ground that mosquito. It takes a winner to know a loser, Hayes, and you, The Rock AND Jeff Hardy are all losers. Oh it's true.”

Kurt then leaves for his match.

Jeff Hardy vs. Kurt Angle

This was a long and decent match but it fell under some people's expectations. The two competitors went back and forth in the match, doing all they could to get the win. While he did have some success grounding Hardy, but he certainly didn't keep him there. It was these high risks moves whoever that were Jeff's downfall. After a good run for him, he attempted a Hardyac Arrest but Angle moved out of the way. Angle backed off and when Hardy came back running at him he went for a clothesline which Hardy ducked. Jeff attempted a whisper in the wind but was unsuccessful as Kurt grabs his Angle and drag him to the centre of the ring/ He applied the grapevine and made Jeff tap out.

A couple of notes:

- No complaining about lack of DDP, I have a plan, he needed (sort of) to be off screen this week.

- At Judgement Day 2002 IRL Kurt lost his hair. He's having it in my game, but should I have him lose it further down the line?

- I suck a second B- in row. My Velocity got a C+ Hopefully third shows a charm and we beat damn Raw!

To start, I'm shocked that Angle vs Jeff only got a B-. I would expect Angle to be able to pull a B out of pretty much anyone. :o

As for the hair, it's definitely something you should consider down the line. It's a storyline which pretty much writes itself with a Face Champ and a Heel Angle doing anything for a shot.

Start getting B's damn it. If you cause WWE to fall to Cult Brock Lesnar will end you

The show kicked off in the ring.

Ten Man Battle Royal – World Title Qualifying Match

The contestants were: Edge, Bradshaw, The Rock, Perry Saturn, Kevin Nash, Diamond Dallas Page, X Pac, William Regal, D'Lo Brown, and Eddie Guerrero

The final four in the match were DDP, The Rock, William Regal and Kevin Nash. Nash and DDP worked on The Rock and Regal watched. When The Rock started a comeback he clotheslined Nash out of the ring it became a three. All three battled until it seemed like DDP had Rock in a vulnerable position, that was until Regal used the Brass Knuckles knocking him out of the match. With Rock on the outside, Regal ran at him but at that second DDP pulled his leg down. Rock dropped and in turn pulled the rope down, Regal flew over the top rope and crashed into DDP, meaning not only was he out but The Rock was not dragged down, he stood on the turnbuckle outside as the winning.

The camera cuts to the back, Vince's office specifically. William Regal has walked in and Vince sighs.

“What is it William?” Vince seems to know what is coming.

“I'm here because I'm bloody sick and tired of lacklustre challengers for the premier title of Smackdown. I, and this title deserve more flamin' respect!”

“Listen, William you know the situation with the world title, so why are you testing my patience? William, what do you want, I'm stressed as it is. What the hell is it?”

“I've told you I want you to give this gold the respect it deserves, I'm bloody sick of kids and oversized dancers getting a shot at this belt! A belt which stands...”

“Listen Regal, between you, Edge, The Rock and a number of other people I am close to snapping. I'll set up a three way for next week, but please, just, just get out William.”

“Thank you, sir I'm glad you've understood.”

Vince sighs as Regal leaves.

“If Kurt doesn't destroy Scotty I may go mad.”

Kurt Angle vs. Scotty 2 Hotty

Luckily for Vince, Angle did destroy Scotty quickly and in brutal fashion. He finished off Scotty with an Ankle Lock, which he held onto well after the bell.

After the match Kurt Angle took a microphone. He was barely out of breath.

“Hey, Rocky, did you just see that? I know you're probably too banged up after your match being the inferior athlete that you are, but I just gave a preview of what is going to happen to your ankle at Judgement Day. And Scotty showed you your role. Rock, I am an Olympic Gold medallist and I am the best wrestler in the world, at Judgement Day I will prove that by becoming the champion of the world. It's True, It's Damn True!

Al Snow vs. Albert vs. Goldust

This was promoted by the commentators as the number one contendership for the European Championship. The match was weird with Goldust only focussed on Albert. Albert was clearly getting annoyed and when Goldust ripped out some of Albert's chest hair and ran away, that Albert was tipped over the edge. Albert chased Goldust down the ramp and the match ended in an odd double count out with Al Snow left in the ring.

The camera once again cuts back to Vince's office this time his “guest” was Edge.

“Listen, I'll drop it when I get Christian one on one!”

Christian then burst in through that door.

“I am absolutely sick of Edge, you need to keep him away from me...”

Christian turns and sees Edge.

“Keep him away from me because you may have a law suit on your hands when I'm done with him!”

“Oh, really, Christian, then why is it you've dodged me for sooo long?”

“Dodged you, are you serious, you are a loser, I don't want to be seen any where near you?”

Before long it has become a loud noise of arguing, and Vince steps in.

“SHUT UP! GOD DAMN IT, SHUT UP! SHUT UP SHUT UP!”

Vince is red in the face.

“Christian go to the ring right now, you've got Kane. Edge, after that in the main event you take on Taker you got it. Now get out”

Both leave and Vince goes back to the pile of paperwork he has.

Kane vs. Christian

this was a match of opposing styles and they caused each other problems due to their vast differences. Kane struggled at times with Christian's speed but Kane's power meant when he did get to him it counted. The match was strong and both took a lot out of each other.

Kane eventually beat Christian with a huge Chokeslam.

They went back and forth in a vicious brawl, all the way towards the ramp where Kane was hit with a big boot from Test. Kane was shaken and before he could get back at Test security broke them up.

They really got behind Edge and he gave a great display up against The American Badass, they continued to go back and forth in a great match until Christian came down and destroyed the main event causing a DQ victory for Edge.
