I have taken over the Utah State Aggies and will do what I can to make them competive in the WAC. I always sim the first year out hand's off to get a feel for the team and allow myself to bring in at least one recruiting class that is my own. Adds to my own personal immersion. I also will stay with Utah State for at least 4 years, win, lose or otherwise. Utah State 2005 L ECU 17-13 W FAU 41-6 L SJS 24-3 L LaTech 24-21 W Idaho 20-10 L NMSU 52-10 W Boise St 24-15 L Fresno St 24-10 W Nevada 27-24 L Hawaii 24-7 W Utah 17-10 In the National Title Game (Rose Bowl) Texas clocked Miami 41-10. One of the things that sticks out is the lack of consistancy for the team.. LWLWL. Naturally I want to turn those into wins. For out of conference scheduling I will use the ABC theory...that is one A level team (BCS powerhouse), One Mid BCS team (Minor bowl participants) and one C level team ie the MAC or even the lowly BIg East. I will not play out any games but sim them out.

I have a 1.7 million dollar budget for the next fiscal year. Not a lot but we will see what kind of use we can make from it. I personally think it would be foolish to recruit outside of the west. This is Utah State not BYU or even Utah so I have adjusted my budget accordingly. My recruiting priorty will be OL, DL QB and RBs. I have decided to keep my OC Ivory Eley. His teams ran poorly (118), but he had the 12th rated passing office in all the land. A good place to start. I will replace my Def Coordinator. He runs a 5-2 and I like the 4-3....and in the pass happy Wac...i think its important. My special Teams coordinator is out the door too...he is god awful as a coach.

Rober' Zolak is my new DC. He is green in motivation, but decidely average everywhere else. I got what I paid for. I did grab Rip CLaybrooks for special teams...Green motivator, and yellow scouting and developing STs Looking at my Depth Charts there is an awful lot of red. It's unlikely I can talk anyone into transfering to my midget program...but we will take a look at what's out there. I do have 16 free scholarships...lets see if we can find a running back from one of the powerhouses.

I have decided to pursue Chuck Kenn from Ok State and this is his reply From: AD Subject: Chuck Kenn transfers elsewhere Unfortunately, RB Chuck Kenn has decided to transfer to Tennessee. It would have been great if we could have landed him, but the opportunity with the Volunteers was too much for him to pass up Yeah I guess, when UTenn is your competition.... Lets see what else is out there.

So next up RB Marvin VanWagner out of Pitt....and the answer is Subject: Marvin VanWagner transfers elsewhere Unfortunately, RB Marvin VanWagner has decided to transfer to Iowa State. So that is that. We will have to work on our prestige a bit to get kids to come here... On a happy note I did get his note in my box: have been a huge Aggies fan my entire life. I grew up in Utah but moved to Florida before I went to high school. I know I am probably not even on your radar right now, but I would love to visit Utah State and meet with you and the team. I am currently playing Outside Linebacker and think I could really help out your team next season. I know you have a limited number of scholarships, but it has been a dream of mine to attend Utah State since I was a kid. So, I hope you will consider me in your recruiting. Sincerely, Kalvin Newton

Off to recruiting...to say I need help everywhere would be an understatement. That being said... I have some yellows on the defensive line (E Witten) Linebacker (D Whitfield) and Corner (L Garrity) so all is not lost on defense. Offensively MY QB (L Blanchard) and Left Guard (H Mitrione) are pretty decent players (yellows). My early policy will be if a kid is from Utah and interested I will scout him no questions asked. Other western kids will make the watch list. I intend to go after OL and DL hard core...1 QB and 1 RB...anything else..will be the best athlete who will come to my humble corner of the world.

I have 6 JC players on my watch list. 2 of them (OG) Player, and Ieremia-Stansbu are unlikely to come visit here ...they are green chip guys and Utah State isnt on that level yet. The rest I have a shot at: Green Chip: Player (OG) (JC) Ieremia-Stansbu (OG) (JC) Yellow Chip guys: F Bauman (QB) L Whittington (QB) L Hammond (CB) K Newton (OLB) Brown Chip: M Kapp (OT) (JC) M Townsell (SS) (JC) H Bettis (DE) (JC) H Hood (QB) C Wilburn (DE) B McFarland (DT) Red Chip: F Chmura (C) (JC) E Totten (C) Well dammit all I just suffered a CTD and naturally I hadn't saved yet....so i get the pleasure of starting again....look for the sequel tomorrow.
