Hardcore Independent Wrestling 1995

Recommended Posts

It is September 1995, and the Monday Night Wars are just beginning while a Extreme Revolution is taking place in the world of Sports Entertainment in South Philadelphia, PA...

And an independent wrestler, named Crazy Eddie who works locally in Florida , and who became a wrestler because of his love of the fathers of said revolution, namely ECW, has won his state's lottery to the tune of 2.5 million dollars, and has decided to take his winnings and open up his own "tribute" (some would say ripoff) of ECW, named Hardcore Independent Wrestling, based out of the state he got his start in, Florida.

HIW has begun, and has focused it's attention on the blossoming fanbase on the internet, starting a website, and running an Fanboard on AOL and Prodigy, and hype and expectations are already rather high, before the company's first signings or event are even announced!

Eddie, while planning on staying an active competitor, will also run HIW, signing talent, and booking the matches and storylines. His first order of business on his first day was to place a call to Tod Gordon, ECW's founder, to assure Tod he has no intentions of stealing ECW talent, though he plans to book it. Tod accepts his offer of a Working Relationship, and Eddie has begun to get to work on the opening of the Promotion, namely the signing of the best available Hardcore talent, and he is also fishing around for a PPV deal...

The following is an exceprt from "Mad Dog's World Of Wrestling" newsletter, from the first week of September, 1995.

"In HIW news, owner Crazy Eddie has already announced the signing of current ECW Tag Team Champion Raven to a contract. Due to HIW's agreement with ECW, Raven can work both promotions freely. Rumors are already abound of Eddie's negotiations to get HIW on Pay Per View, with Request TV. The current business model for the federation would be one monthly Supercard on PPV, and weekly events based in the Southeast region of the US, focused mainly in Florida. Talk about HIW building it's own venue has surfaced, but nothing is confirmed as of yet. Many more talent signings are rumored to be on the horizon, with several current ECW names having been approached, as well as some former WWF and WCW names. HIW hopes to run it's first show at the end of this month, and should begin promoting immediately."

Reported on ProWrestling Dot Com, Week One of September 1995...

HIW News

HIW Owner, Crazy Eddie, has been aggressively pursuing Mick "Cactus Jack" Foley to no avail so far. Foley apparently feels that he is being stretched far enough with all his independent commitments these days, and there are also whispers that he may return to WCW if they offer him the right amount of money.

Notable signings rumored for HIW this week include former WCW wrestler and current All Japan standout, Rob Van Dam and former SMW Champion, Brian Lee. Raven has also been pushing for his current tag team partner/lackey in ECW, Stevie Richards to be brought into the fold. Sources say these will be confirmed on the HIW website, along with a plethora of other surprise signings by the end of the week, as HIW gears up to being promoting it's first card, so far unnamed.

Also rumored to be announced before the week is through is HIW's PPV contract with Request TV, as I have been told by very reliable sources that the ink on the contract is all but dried.

The following is a press release from HIW to wrestling newsletters The Observer and The Torch...

"Members of the Pro Wrestling Press, HIW is proud to announce the signing to an exclusive contract, former WCW US, World Television, and World Tag Team Champion, Steve Austin! Steve has been fielding offers since becoming a free agent, and he decided that HIW was the place to be. He has told me personally that he looks forward to working the old school hardworking style HIW promises to offer, and that he is happy to finally be working in a promotion that will allow him to be the Superstar that he always knew he could be...

We here at HIW know personally of big money offers being thrown Steve's way, so we hope he sticks around as long as possible to entertain the HIW fans.

On an odd side note, I keep getting strange phone calls here at the HIW office. No one speaks, but all I hear is "Here comes the Ax and here comes the Smasher..." before they hang up...

But anyway, later on today, we promise to launch the official HIW website, along with a press release with full details on the roster so far, and on our first major event in the 3rd week of September...stay tuned!"

HIW WEEKLY

SEPTEMBER 1995

WEEK ONE

Hello, HIW fans. This is to be the first of many weekly newsletter updates/press releases here on http://www.HIW.com; this will no doubt be the lengthiest of them all, as I wll be announcing HIW's current roster, writing about our future plans, and announcing two events and venues.

In our first week of operations I was on the phone 24/7 with some of the biggest available names in our industry. I am very pleased with the wrestlers I was able to come to terms with, and I hope to have more fruitful negotiations in the future with some of the talent with whom we were unable to reach agreements. Without further adieu, here are the member of the HIW roster currently signed to agreements. Keep in mind there are still negotiations ongoing with some big names, which I will get to later.

CURRENT HIW ROSTER

Wrestlers

Ax: One half of the reformed tag team, Demolition. Oh...surprise btw, as yes, Demolition is back together and looking to regain Tag Team Championship gold here in HIW. Ax is a rough and ready veteran, and the Demos are looking to reclaim what they claim is theirs...respect and the throne atop pro wrestling's tag team division.

Axl Rotten: Hardcore competitor Rotten has some ECW and WCW experience. I am sure he will be waging war in some of our more "Extreme" contests, as well as in the tag team division with his brother, Ian.

Billy Kidman: A young up and comer who trained with Afa in Allentown, PA. This kid is an amazing high flyer who will be working in HIW's Junior Heavyweight division, and the sky is the limit for him.

Chavo Guerrero Jr.: The nephew of Eddie Guerrero. Chavo is just getting started, and HIW will be his first exposure on American soil and airwaves. I am sure he will make the most of it.

Chris Wright: This young man has a unique Anderson esque look. He has done some training in WCW's school and now he looks to make an impact in HIW.

Crazy Eddie: What can I say about this future Hardcore Legend? The man has no fear and feels he is the future of the Extreme style, and he will be looking to prove it as soon as he gets the chance.

Crush: Some legal troubles aside, this man is truly an extraordinary specimen who knows how it feels to hold the gold. Now will he reunite with his former Demolition teammates or will he be going it alone? Or perhaps with another partner? Either way, he is a powerhouse with a huge upside who could see himself among the top contenders for the HIW World Title.

Dan Severn: "The Beast" competes on MMA events throughout the world and is the current NWA Champion. He is bringing his competitive nature here to HIW. What will his goals be and will he stand alone?

David Cash: This youngster has competed all over the country and has developed quite a reputation for his ability already....and his attitude. Another future Junior Heavyweight star.

Devon Storm: Another up and comer with some experience in the big leagues and unlimited potential IMO.

Dick Togo: An import from Michinoku Pro wrestling in Japan. This stocky competitor will surprise the fans with his athleticism, his agility...and his willingness to do whatever it takes to win.

Horace Boulder: Has competed in some Hardcore promotions in Japan and has some WWF experience as well. Has a very famous Uncle.

Hugh Morrus: Hugh is just now finally getting the national exposure he deserves through his WCW contract. He will be competing here in HIW on his off nights. A big beast of a man with an exceptional moonsault.

Ian Rotten: Axl's brother and tag team partner. Probably one of the most Extreme competitors around today.

Jerry Lynn: Has gotten some exposure throughout the years, mainly in the GWF. Tremendous well rounded wrestler who is just waiting for the right opportunity to show his skills.

John Kronus: One half of the Eliminators with Perry Saturn (who we are currently negotiating with.) Has competed in ECW and the USWA. Extraordinarily agile for a man near the 300 lb mark.

Killdozer: Has competed as Brian Lee in SMW and has also been seen in the WWF. Just a big, mean, tough SOB who loves to fight. HIW wrestlers would be served well to fear this man.

Mustafa Saed: One half of the Gangstas with New Jack. Has competed in ECW and SMW. Known for his willingness to brawl all over the building with no concern for his own safety...and especially not for his opponent.

New Jack: The other half of the Gangstas. A very charismatic brawler.

Pitbull # 1: Mostly a tag team competitor. Good, strong brawler. They are a team to watch.

Pitbull # 2: Maybe the stronger of the two Pitbulls. They will be a force to be reckoned with in our tag team ranks.

Psicosis: Mexican high flyer...with quite the mean streak.

Raven: Currently a big star in ECW. Was HIW's first signing and has made no bones about the fact that he is gunning right for the HIW World Heavyweight Championship. Usually has a group of lackeys around to ensure his victories.

Rey Misterio Jr.: Don't let his small stature fool you. Rey can go and has piled up victory after victory on larger opponents. Excellent high flyer and big time fan favorite, in both ECW and Mexico.

Rob Van Dam: Van Dam competed briefly, and with success, in WCW, and currently works for All Japan. Seen by many in the industry as a future star. Was trained by the legendary Shiek and his nephew, HIW competitor, Sabu.

Rocck Rock: One half of Public Enemy and the more athletic of the two. Table smashing expert. HIW is currently negotiating with his partner, Johnny Grunge.

Sabu: Homocidal, suicidal and genocidal and the biggest name in Extreme and Independent wrestling today. It's a pleasure for us here in HIW management to have Sabu on the roster and it will be for the fans as well. I can't tell you what to expect from him because the man is quite simply the most unpredictable superstar I have ever seen.

Shane Douglas: A well travelled veteran, currently on the WWF roster...a fact he seems none too pleased about in the conversations I have had with him! Has competed with great success in the UWF, ECW and WCW as well. Will no doubt be a controversial star at the top of our cards.

Smash: The other half of Demolition. Has experience in the NWA, WWF, and WCW. A big tough brawler. It is said to have been Smash who mended the fences with Ax and suggested their reunion.

Steve Austin: This man's potential knows no end...and he won't hesitate to tell you about it if you don't believe him! Austin is currently the most sought after free agent in the business, and we are lucky to have him. He has also made no bones about the fact that he wants to be and plans to be, the top dog around here.

Stevie Richards: Only known as a goof, a clown, and Raven's lackey. Stevie has already stated a desire to be taken more seriously here in HIW...and then proceeded to tell me how great his man Raven is...so who knows what this clueless putz's plan truly is.

Super Crazy: Mexican Luchador and a high flyer of the highest magnitude. This youngster is full of untapped potential.

Taka Michinoku: Another import from Michinoku Pro along with Togo. Amazing high flyer with a devastating finishing maneuver which will make him a force to be reckoned with in the Junior Heavyweight division.

Vampire Warrior: Is known throughout Florida's independents and also has some ECW and International experience. What can you say about a man with fangs except....watch out!

Valets/Managers

Beulah McGillicutty: Cunning, sexy vixen usually found by Raven's side

Dawn Marie: Young future starlet. Clients yet to be announced.

Francine: Now this young lady is Extreme! Trained in ECW's school, not afraid to take a bump. Manages her "Dogs Of War" The Pitbulls and definitely gives them an extra added dimension.

Announcers:

Bruce Prichard: Has worked in the GWF and the WWF among many other places. Will be working as our lead Color Commentator.

Scott Hudson: Scott has experience in some independents. He will be our lead Announcer

Kevin Kelly: Kevin is an up and comer. He is expected to be our lead Interviewer as well as step into the announce booth from time to time.

Joel Gertner: Former ECW ring announcer, Joel's charisma was always noted by their fans. He will now be given his chance to shine here in HIW, with a "Piper's Pit" type segment, as of yet unnamed.

Referees/Backstage Staff

Bill Alfonso: Known in ECW for his heelish antics, Bill is however, a legend here in the Florida area. For now, it is just straight up officiating for Mr. Alfonso.

Charles Robinson: Young referee with a bright future

James Beard: James brings a wealth of experience in officiating to HIW

Jim Mollineaux: ECW referee. Knows how to handle chaotic situations.

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat: Former NWA World Champion, former WWF Intercontinental Champion, and a legend. Forced to take early retirement in WCW at the hands of HIW competitor, Steve Austin. Now working in a backstage capacity, helping to shape matches and train the younger workers, but...you never know in the world of wrestling. Maybe one day, Steamboat will fly again!

Gabe Sapolsky: This young man has been working on the fringes of ECW and other Philadelphia independents for a couple of years. He will be working for HIW in a road agent capacity.

HIW Championships

The following 4 Championships will be instituted at HIW's inception, and will be competed for almost immediately:

HIW World Heavyweight Championship: This speaks for itself. It's the top of the mountain. The champion will be crowned at our first PPV, Hardcore War '95.

HIW Southern Championship: A secondary title to be defended only in our cards based in the Southern area of the US.

HIW World Tag Team Championship: Unlike in some other organizations, we will take our tag division seriously here in HIW, as you have noticed by the quality of our signings. The champions will be crowned at our first PPV, Hardcore War '95.

HIW Junior Heavyweight Championship: In an effort to spotlight the athletes who don't receive much credit in this country, this division has been created, and we have done our best to get some of the top talent in the world. A champion will be crowned ASAP.

UPCOMING EVENTS

HIW Wrestling: Our weekly event that will be held mostly in Florida for the time being. The first one will be held on Saturday in the 3RD week of September. The details for the location are being finalized as we speak, and the card will be announced after we complete some more negotiations in the coing week.

HIW Hardcore War '95: This will be our first foray into the world of Pay Per View: The venue and the card are being put together as we speak, and will be officially announced shortly. I can tell you this; CHAMPIONS WILL BE CROWNED, and you the fans, will see the best Hardcore Wrestling action that this world has to offer!

Within the next few days, HIW will announce any further roster additions, and our top contenders for the World and Tag Team Championships, as there will be tournaments put together to crown each champion! Thank you for your time, patience, and interest in HIW!

Until next time,

HIW Founder Crazy Eddie

Oh, P.S. HIW is currently in negotiations with the following: Chris Benoit, Vader, and Harley Race....

As reported on Pro Wrestling DOT COM....

HIW News

HIW announced their roster today, and the top signees include Raven, Steve Austin, Shane Douglas, Sabu, Demoltion, and Dan Severn. They are rumored to still be in negotiations with names such as Chris Benoit, Vader, Harley Race, The Sandman, and Perry Saturn of the Eliminators.

Rumored booking plans include a possible heel alliance between Benoit and Austin if they are able to convince Benoit to sign on the dotted line.

Shane Douglas is being allowed to work in HIW even though he is currently under WWF contract. Rumor has it that he will be returning with his Franchise character, although he will be working as a babyface, with strong anti WCW and anti WWF views.

Also, here is the word we are getting on the Demolition reforming story; Bill Eadie (Ax) won a lawsuit with the WWF and now owns the team name and copyright. The team will consist of original members Eadie as Ax, and Barry Darsow as Smash. Although Brian Adams (Crush) is under contract, he will not be a member of the team, but he may be feuding with them. Brian Lee (Killdozer) is rumored to be his tag team partner is that feud does come to fruition.

The following is a press release from HIW to newletters the Observer and the Torch...

HIW would like to proudly announce the following ten signings, and also announce that the HIW roster, aside from a few forthcoming releases (attitude issues over push) has now been finalized.

Chris Benoit: "The Crippler" has certainly made a name for himself in ECW, the NWA, Japan, Mexico, and briefly in WCW. Some insides consider him the best wrestler today and he will certainly have a chance to prove it here.

Lance Storm: Trained by the Harts, Storm has extensive experience in Canada, Europe, and here in the states for SMW. He is part of an excellent young tag team, with Chris Jericho....

Chris Jericho: The flashier member of the Storm/Jericho team. Chris has been having some of the best matches on the international scene for a while now, and we look forward to his contributions.

Perry Saturn: The other half of the Eliminators, and one tough SOB. Perry excels in both hardcore and high flying styles.

Jushin Liger: That's right folks, the legendary Jushin Liger returns to the states with HIW. American fans know him from his runs with WCW. He is truly a legend and we hope to have him here as long as possible.

The Sandman: An ECW original. One of the best brawlers to come along in a long time, and extremely entertaining to watch.

Juventud Guerrera: One of the top high fliers from Mexico. Has an amazing 450 splash.

Ultimo Dragon: Though he has no US experience thus far, this man is a legend in Mexico and Japan and one of the most captivating superstars in the sport today.

Harley Race: What can be said about the former NWA Champion? His intentions are thus far unknown here in HIW. Will he commentate? Will he work backstage with the talent? Could he be here to manage someone to greatness as he has done in the past with Lex Luger and Vader?

Taz: Fresh off an injury in ECW, this man is intent on cementing his new image as a suplex machine bad ass, and he has told HIW he will not stop until the wrestling fans all around the world know the name "Taz."

At this time, HIW would also like to announce the departure of The Vampire Warrior. New signings led to this as well as our inability to sign a competitor he was going to team with, thus leaving him without a real identity in HIW. We hope to work with him in the future.

We also wish to announce the construction of the HIW Arena in downtown Miami. All of our weekly events will be held there for the time being. Our PPV Events will be held mostly on the road.

Our first event of the weekly series "HIW Wrestling" will be next Saturday. Beginning that night will be our first tournament matches to determine the top two contenders to the World, Tag Team, and Junior Heavyweight Championships. Each title will be decided at our first PPV, "Hardcore War." The top 4 contenders for each wll be announced tomorrow, as will the brackets for the tournaments. HIW looks forward to announcing it's first card to the wrestling press and fans, and hopes they are all pleased and excited by what we intend to present, and by what we feel will be the greatest wrestling in the world in 1995.

Unfortunately, he is out injured for the next 10 days. Which sucks because he was going to headline both our inaugural event and our first PPV. But that's ok. He will be in the mix sooner rather than later.

Event results, HIW News and Notes, and a preview for the PPV Hardcore War 1995 upcoming sometime today.

As reported on 1Wrestling Dot Com...

1Wrestling Dot Com Correspondent Dave Scherer reporting from beautiful Miami, Florida, where HIW staged their first event, the not so creatively named "HIW Wrestling Live!" Presumably, starting in October 1995, these weekly events will be taking place in their 2500 seat HIW Arena currently under construction, though those plans could change after seeing the attendance here tonight.

Around 9500 seats out of 10000 were sold for this show, showing that Miami is a very hungry wrestling town. However, I spoke to more than a few fans who were upset about the last minute scratch of Steve Austin, who was scheduled to compete in the World Heavyweight Championship tournament, but who was pulled due to an injury suffered while training. The details of his injury have not surfaced yet, and he is scheduled to return to the ring in about two weeks. This, unfortunately means, that HIW's first PPV, "Hardcore War 1995" will have to go on without him. Now onto my report from the event...

DARK MATCHES

Rob Van Dam vs. Lance Storm

These two had a good solid 10 minute matchup that got the crowd nice and fired up, especially since these two are basically unfamiliar talent to an American audience. Van Dam worked heel, and his personality shone through. He won clean with a Split Legged Moonsault following a very stiff spin kick to Storm's face.

Winner via pinfall in 9:57, Rob Van Dam **

Crazy Eddie vs. Stevie Richards

Stevie cut a brief promo before the match, stating how since Raven had taken Steve Austin's place in the tournament, he would gladly take his boss's place in his previously contracted matchup. A semi quick encounter which ended when Eddie hit Richards with a sit down Uranage, he calls the "Overdose." Richards looked good in defeat.

Winner via pinfall in 6:13, Crazy Eddie *

SEGMENT ONE

In ring promo with Harley Race and Chris Benoit

The US Audience seemed more familiar with Benoit than the four previous combatants in the dark matches. Race did the speaking for him however, stating how Benoit's techinical prowess would propel him to the top of the HIW, and would dismantle Dan Severn in their match later on. He also said that if he could compete, he would challenge Severn for the NWA Championship, to bring it back home where it belongs. He also name dropped Steve Austin, who he will also be managing apparently, and said Benoit and Austin will rule the HIW until the day they decide not to.

SEGMENT TWO

Ultimo Dragon vs. Rey Misterio, Jr.

The first match in the Junior Heavyweight Championship tournament was about as good as you would expect. Plenty of high flying, and some excellent counters by Misterio that I have never even seen before. Finish came when Dragon caught him in an attempted moonsault and snapped on the Dragon Slepper. Excellent match that had the crowd on their feet. Ultimo Dragon advances to the JH Championship Finals.

Winner via submission in 17:30, Ultimo Dragon ***

SEGMENT THREE

Public Enemy vs. The Gangstas

Due to their ECW exposure, this crowd was immediately familiar with these two teams and their rivalry. The basic punch and kick and brawl match you would expect from these guys, and not a table was broken! The match ended rather quickly when New Jack took advantage of the distracted referee and full on kicked Johnny Grunge in the junk. 1,2,3 was academic after that. The Gangstas advance to the TT Championship finals.

Winner via pinfall in 5:47, The Gangstas DUD

SEGMENT FOUR

Jushin "Thunder" Liger vs. Psicosis

These two clicked nearly as well as Dragon and Misterio before them, but it seemed to be more of a showcase for Liger to get over in his American return. He is periodically still used by WCW, so he got a pretty good reaction coming out. He turned an attempted huricanrana by Psicosis into a Ligerbomb to end it. Liger advances to the JH Championship finals.

Winner via pinfall in 13:39, Jushin Liger ** 3/4

SEGMENT FIVE

Demolition vs. The Eliminators

Huge pop for the Demos coming out in what was their first match teaming up strictly as Ax and Smash in 4 1/2 to 5 years. They are working as faces, not that they really have a choice. Straight up clean match up that did allow Saturn to showcase a few nifty suplexes and a double armbar submission move that I have never seen before, and Kronus showcased his agility, including a Space Flying Tiger Drop onto Smash that has to be seen to be believed. However, after Ax knocked Saturn off the apron to the barricade, and isolating and punishing Kronus, they were able to pull off their famous Demolition Decapitation for the victory. Demolition advances to the TT Championship finals.

Winner via pinfall in 12:29, Demolition ** 1/2

SEGMENT SIX

Backstage Promo by Raven

The following is a word for word promo by Raven...

"I sit here in the backstage dressing room, in disgust. You see, when I heard of HIW coming into play in the world of wrestling, I was delighted to hear of a new playground for myself, and for all of the disenfranchised. I did something I never ever do....I answered my phone, and I took the call from HIW management. I was the first wrestler to agree to work for this company. I was promised the world. I was promised I'd be on top of the mountain here. But then other wrestlers started to come here. Supposed 'bigger names' than Raven. Guys who could be 'marketed better' than Raven. I should have known better. The second that guys like Steve Austin, and Chris Benoit, and Shane Douglas signed their contracts, I should have known that I would be put out to pasture. If Steve Austin didn't reinjure himself while training for tonight, Raven would be an afterthought in a dark match...I don't belong there. I should be the focus of any company I work for. Since I began my dark work in ECW, I have been the hottest name on the lips of every fan in wrestling. But HIW management would rather have a star like Austin, or a technical master like Benoit, or a pretty boy like Douglas as the face of their company. I was lied to. I was misled. I was taken advantage of. And now I seek my revenge. I seek my revenge on anyone who steps in the ring with me in the HIW. Because it is my right, it is my will, and it is my destiny to rule this company, just as I rule ECW. When people think 'Extreme', when people think 'Hardcore', they think of Raven. Ever since I was in my teens, I learned that there is no talking with people, There is no reasoning with people. If you want someone to get out of your way, you can't negotiate. You have to move them. Shane Douglas, tonight you stand in the way of my destiny...and I will do whatever it takes to move you. Quote the Raven, Nevermore."

SEGMENT SEVEN

Dan Severn Video

A 3-4 minute video of Dan Severn highlights in the UFC and some independent footage is played, highlighting his ability to choke out opponents.

SEGMENT EIGHT

Chris Benoit (w/Harley Race) vs. Dan "The Beast" Severn

Severn wore the NWA Championship around his waist and carried two UFC titles over his shoulders, but made very little effort to engage the crowd. Benoit lived up to his reputation as one of the best workers in the world, as he got Severn going, and kept the crowd extremely into it. Quite a few series of suplex reversals had the crowd ooohing and aaahing. The finish came when the Referee got bumped by an irish whip reversal into the corner, and TAZ interfered in the match, hitting Severn with a beautiful T Bone Suplex. He nodded in respect at Benoit, and left the ring. Benoit followed it up with a picture perfect Brainbuster, and the ref came to for the 1, 2, 3.

Winner via pinfall in 14:42, Chris Benoit ***

SEGMENT NINE

In Ring Promo by Shane Douglas

The following is a word for word promo by Douglas...

"Cut the ****ing music! Here we are in Miami Florida, for the inaugural event for HIW. Another year for 'The Franchise', another championship tournament. Except this time, it is a title I want, not a representation of the Stone Age of wrestling. You see, Shane Douglas doesn't take steroids, I don't party like every wrestler you hear of, and I don't chase women. What I am addicted to is the gold. The World Heavyweight Championship. I can't live, I can't eat, I can't breathe, and I can't sleep without a title around my waist. I have had it in the UWF, ECW, WCW, and soon I will in the WWF as well, if Vinnie Mac gives me the 'push.' Here in HIW I know I will get the chance to showcase my talent as only 'The Franchise' can, and I am here to put on my best performance for each and every one of you people in the crowd tonight. Raven? You say it is your destiny to attain victory here tonight? Well, prepared to be disappointed, bitch. Quote 'The Franchise', NEVERMORE!"

SEGMENT TEN

"The Franchise" Shane Douglas vs. Raven

What a main event! A knock down drag out brawl between these two, which saw major juice from both. During the match, SABU slowly walked down to ringside, ostensibly to watch, as instead of springing to attack, or pointing to the sky as usual, he stood there with his arms crossed and watched. But at the end of the match, Douglas drop toe holded Raven towards the ring ropes where Sabu swung his chair with all the force in his body, staggering Raven into a belly to belly from Shane, and the 1, 2, 3. Post Match, Shane and Sabu shook hands, signalling an alliance....only to see Sabu throw his chair at the back of Shane's head, laying him out! Douglas advances to the finals of the World Championship tournament, and that's all she wrote from here in Miami!

Winner by pinfall in 23:45, Shane Douglas *** 1/4

SCHERER'S POST SHOW NOTES

It was a great show overall, and a good debut. Lots of potential here, and the shows can only improve as Steve Austin arrives, the locker room gels, and more guys get chances.

Per the winners tonight, the matches already set up for the PPV will include Shane Douglas vs. Chris Benoit for the World title, Demolition vs. The Gangstas for the Tag Team titles, and, in a internet nerd's wet dream match, for the Junior Heavyweight title, Jushin Liger vs. Ultimo Dragon. Feuds between Dan Severn and Taz, and Sabu and Raven also appear to have been set up. And the rumored alliance between Benoit and Austin with Race as manager will certainly be a force to be reckoned with.

As reported on Wresteline Dot Com...

HIW News

-Sabu was originally slated to feud with Chris Benoit over the incident in ECW, where Benoit broke Sabu's neck with a botched suplex. When Steve Austin was unable to compete at HIW's Inaugural event or PPV, Benoit was slid into the main event feud with Shane Douglas that was originally Austin's, and the surprise attack by Sabu was switched to Raven. The idea behind their feud is Raven's claim that he is the most Extreme/Hardcore wrestler in the world.

-Raven was legitimately disappointed as he was shuffled down the card originally when Austin and Benoit were signed, and cut a promo based in reality on that subject. Since his feud with Sabu was last second, there is no word on how long it will last. There is already talk about attempting a talent trade with ECW to bring in Tommy Dreamer to reprise the Dreamer-Raven feud in HIW.

-The HIW Southern Heavyweight Championship is rumored to be decided in a 3 or 4 way matchup at the inaugural event at the HIW Arena in the first week of October. No word on the combatants.

-Brian Lee (Killdozer) and Brian Adams (Crush) were told by HIW management to get matching tights for their rumored run as a tag team against Demoltion.

-Though he and his wife Peaches are both signed to HIW, there is no plans to use the Sandman as of yet.

-The Taz-Dan Severn feud is rumored to kick start a mega push for Taz, who is going to start a gimmick where he refers to himself as "The Ultimate Fighter." This gimmick will lead to other outside competitors coming in to challenge him, from the UFC and from other wrestling companies after the Severn feud is complete.

-Independent standout Dawn Marie is rumored to manage The Eliminators.

-HIW management is extremely high on former WCW and All Japan competitor, Rob Van Dam. He has already been put over Lance Storm in an impressive fashion, and he will be showcased at Hardcore War against Storm's tag team partner and another up and comer, Chris Jericho. HIW management has not decided whether or not to push those two as a team or seperately yet.

-It was reported on several wrestling hotlines that HIW has closed the door on any new talent in the near future, maybe until 1996, unless something really intriguing comes along. HIW Management and Crazy Eddie feel they need to get the most out of the current talent roster before it gets any more overloaded.

The following is a fan review of Hardcore War 1995 posted by RaZoRdIeSeLkLiQ on AOL's Wrestling Grandstand....

Hey everyone. I just returned from attending "Hardcore War 1995", HIW's first Pay Per View, and only it's 2nd event, and here are the results, and my notes/thoughts.

The show opened with HIW Owner/Operator Crazy Eddie vs. Killdozer in the first dark match. Dozer wins cleanly in about 7 minutes with a Big Boot and a Chokeslam. Goes to show that Eddie isn't about putting himself over in his own fed, taking a clean defeat in the first match of the show.

WINNER: KILLDOZER

The 2nd dark match was a quick one between Public Enemy and Bad Breed. Another clean pinfall as Rocck Rock pins Ian Rotten after a moonsault. Neither team seemed too into being out there in a meaningless dark match.

WINNERS: PUBLIC ENEMY

The PPV Broadcast began with Chris Benoit coming to the ring accompanied by his manager Harley Race. Harley did most of the talking, talking Benoit up as one of the future greats, trained by champions, and dominant all around the world, etc. etc. Benoit closed the interview, promising to make Douglas feel pain and submit.

The opening contest was Rob Van Dam vs. Chris Jericho, in a great give and take ten minute contest. Each man's offense and counters were pretty even, though it looked a little too rehearsed. The bell rang at 10 minutes to signify a time limit draw between the two while Van Dam was on the top rope and Jericho down. Jericho attempted to shake Van Dam's hand after, and he just smugly walked away to boos. Hopefully this will lead to a feud and lengthier matches, because with time, these guys could really tear down the house.

TIME LIMIT DRAW BETWEEN ROB VAN DAM AND CHRIS JERICHO

Next up was the Eliminators with their new manger, Dawn Marie vs. The Pitbulls with Francine. This fight was under Street Fight rules, which allowed all 4 men to brawl at the same time, and take it outside the ring whenever they wanted. Though the girls were expected to get involved, they really didn't, aside from some trash talk. Dawn was involved at the finish however, as she tripped Pitbull I from the outside, allowing him to walk into a devastating sidekick from Saturn. Total Elimination followed, and The Eliminators were victorious.

WINNERS: THE ELIMINATORS

Prior to their match, a nice video of a few minutes was shown to hype up the crowd for the forthcoming Rey Misterio Jr./Psicosis match. Lot of highlights from their matches in Mexico were shown.

Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Psicosis went about 9-10 minutes and was basically a greatest hits of their past matches, this time for an American audience on PPV. Rey won cleanly with a Huricanrana off of the top. After the match, Psicosis attacked Rey, suplexed him midsection first onto the guardrail, and hit his Top Rope Legdrop to the outside onto him. Vicious spot.

WINNER: REY MISTERIO JR.

Next up was Joel Gertner's G Spot interview segment, and his guest was Taz. The interview started off smoothly, with Gertner asking normal questions, and Taz responding. He repeatedly called himself "The Ultimate Fighter" which appears to be his new nickname. At the end, after Gertner made a joke at Taz's expense, Taz T Bone suplexed Gertner, to the pop of the crowd. He then picked up the mic and told the crowd to, quote, "Shut the f*ck up!" which put him back on the heel side. Dan Severn then came out, which led to....

Taz and Severn had an interesting match, pretty back and forth, but Taz came out on top after Severn missed a charge and hit his head on an exposed turnbuckle. Taz then choked him out with his Tazmission submission hold. Severn was rendered unconcious and did not tap.

WINNER: TAZ

Another video aired with highlights of Jushin Liger's and Ultimo Dragon's performances at HIW Wrestling Live! to lead into the next match

Liger and Dragon went close to 20 minutes in an excellent give and take matchup. There was an excellent Asai moonsault spot outside of the ring landed perfectly by Dragon. The end came when Liger went for a springboard moonsault and seemingly landed it....until there was a 2 count, and Dragon easily rolled over for the tap out. He had caught Liger in his Dragon Sleeper while on the ground in a very clever finish, and a clean win.

WINNER AND FIRST EVER HIW WORLD JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: ULTIMO DRAGON

Backstage footage was then shown of Demoltion revving each other up for their upcoming match for the titles with the Gangstas....when Crush walked in, with a different, more sinister style face paint than in his Demoliton days. He wished the pair luck, then said "We'll both be watching..." and Killdozer walked in behind him, now sporting the same style facepaint and tights.

Demolition vs. The Gangstas was a styles clash. It wasn't a Hardcore style match, so The Gangstas couldn't resort to their usual tricks. The Demos hit their finishing move after Mustafa missed a charge into the corner, hitting the steel post. Big time pop for the victory.

WINNERS AND FIRST EVER HIW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: DEMOLITION

However, Crush and Killdozer came barrelling towards the ring and ambushed the new champions from behind. Ax wound up piledriven on the outside by Crush, and Smash was double chokeslammed by the two in the ring, With the Demos left laying, I guess we know who their first challengers will be.

Raven came to the ring and got the microphone. He proceeded to tell the crowd that Extreme and Hardcore wrestling wouldn't exist without him, and that everyone knew it, including Paul Heyman, Crazy Eddie, and his opponent Sabu. He promised to take away the HIW World Heavyweight Championship from whoever won in the main event, no matter what it took. This promo led into....

Raven and Sabu had a tremendous little bloodbath, albeit, a little short. They must have been saving time for the main. Sabu used all his tricks, including hitting a triple jump moonsault, and leg dropping Raven through a table at ringside. The finish came when Sabu hit Raven twice with a chair, and when he went for a 3rd hit, Stevie Richards came out from under the ring and superkicked the chair into his face. Raven recovered, hit the DDT, and that was all she wrote.

WINNER: RAVEN

Next up was the main event to crown the first ever HIW World Heavyweight Champion. Footage was shown of Chris Benoit cracking his neck, and being pumped up by Harley Race until he slammed his own head into his locker several times.

Shane Douglas interviewed backstage with Kevin Kelly, and talked about how he brought one Extreme federation to the top just a year earlier, had dominated the WWF, and how now it was time to bring another Hardcore federation to the top of the game, and to represent them all over the world as champion. He encouraged Benoit to bring his A game, because the people deserved it, and because it only made him better.

Douglas and Benoit went a good 24-25 minutes, and battled all over the outside of the ring and up the ramp. Though this was not listed as any type of stipulation match, apparently countouts were not going to be ruled on. About 18-20 minutes in, Douglas began working Benoit's knee with a lot of Flair style moves. Benoit went for a superplex at one point, but his knee was too weak to complete it, and Douglas pushed him off, then hit a somersault neckbreaker on Benoit from the 2nd rope. He then picked him up and hit his Belly to Belly suplex for the 1-2-3 and the championship. Harley helped a limping Benoit to the back.

WINNER AND FIRST EVER HIW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: SHANE DOUGLAS

Overall, I thought it was a very good outing for a federation so young. Douglas will be a good champion, as long as he sticks around, and with the spectre of Steve Austin looming, those two should have some very good matches. Benoit, unless he gets a rematch, is seemingly a man without a feud, but I am sure HIW will find a good use for his exceptional talents. If they are wise, he will always be near the top of the card.

It looks like Sabu has some revenge to gain on Raven and Stevie, but will he attempt to do it alone, or will he find some willing backup?

Crush has returned with a new tag team partner, Killdozer, to gain some payback on his former mentors, and now current champions Ax and Smash and that should provide some good, hard hitting battles for the HIW fans.

Ultimo Dragon as their first JH champ gives HIW plenty of fresh matches for him in the future as champion, and based on his performance, I hope he has the belt for a while. Will he rematch with Liger or will he move on?

The Taz push has begun and he has embraced his new character fully. He wasn't quite as dominant of Severn as I expected, but maybe they are saving that for the future...if they can get Severn to job out that severely that is.

Other stars of the PPV included Psicosis, who really got over with his post match beating of Misterio, and Francine, who the crowd obviously loved.

That's all from me, I hope you enjoyed this review, and I want to wish the best of luck the the HIW and all of their fine competitors.
