R.I.P Whitney

She was the African-American female bridge into the 21st century following in the footsteps of Etta James to Aretha to Whitney then she threw it all away for Bobby Brown and cocaine. Now, it's just Mariah being the black female voice (mainly thanks to Jay-Z intentionally throttling Beyonce's singing. She hasn't actually sung a song since Destiny Child broke up). Sad, sad day for music.

No. You can't blame Jay Z for that. She made up her own mind. She wanted to go into movies and she did.

Besides MAriah is a poser from the beginning. She hid who she was until she thought it would get her what she wanted. She was ashamed of her "darker" side (pun intended) so I'm sorry but I don't put her on the same level as the others mentioned.

I just realized that cause of death has not been determined at this time so I am going to strike my previous comments. Though if drugs were involved in her death, then yeah I standby what I said. I feel no sadness for her but I do feel sadness for her family and friends.

No, I'm talking about the type of music she's been putting out since hooking up with him. It's all dance crap that Madonna and hell Ke$ha do better. She should be singing songs not dance songs that any two bit hack could do well at.

As for Mariah, I don't care about her race and never have. She's still got an absolutely awesome voice though which I do care about.

Kesha?? Really? Kesha doesn't sing...she tries to rap but fails.

Mariah had some good music until recently. The last song she had that I enjoined wax Honey.

Jay z doesn't control the type of music she does. She does what she wants. You talk about her doing something anyone can do....go do what she's doing and get the same success then tell me that crap.

Out of the final three members of the group I feel that she was the worst singer. Both Kelly and Michelle were better singers (once again in my opinion).

What separated Beyonce from the other two was that Beyonce was better looking than both Michelle and Kelly. Also, Beyonce's father managed the group so of course she was going to be in the forefront.

I always found it funny that Beyonce pretty much played Diana Ross in Dreamgirls because Beyonce's career mirrored that of Diana Ross. A singer in a famous trio all women group is pushed to the forefront of said group in Diana's case it was Berry Gordy in Beyonce's case it was her father. Both were weaker singers in my opinion when you compare them to their bandmates.

Kelly is good. I don't like the other girl. I don't see how you consider Beyonce to have a weaker voice though. Kelly is more laid back and a sultry tone, but Beyonce has a deep soulful voice.

But Kesha?? Really...that just makes me sick. Hell I'd almost listen to justen what's his namee and Rebecca Black do a duet over Kesha....

Not to gang up or anything like that, because I believe Beyonce has been very successful in comparison to the "other's", however I have to agree that her voice wasn't the best... To be honest, I can't help but to think that the "4th" voice of Destiny's child was better, but I can't remember the name. The one that wasn't present when they went to three people instead of four (I could look it up, but it's late and I'm feeling lazy).

In other words I agree with the reference to Diana Ross (whom ended up more successful solo as well). The thing is, there is a definate gift there, even if their vocals are (or were) a little over rated. Both of them seem (at least to me) more confident then their co-group members. Both of them were creative without them (or picked better songs to sing), and both knows what they are best at. With Beyonce, she hides what she can't do by singing in almost a "rap" style (faster lyrics). With Diana, she sung quite a few songs that just made you "feel" her, notorious for crying on stage and making her fans cry as well (if you were a fan, you did... IF you weren't, you might have made fun of it).

Either case, being a person that has played songs for many different crowds... I can tell you one thing. They both have a "POP" quality that goes beyond the music they sing.

Also... I don't know if I agree with the Mariah comment. When she FIRST come out, she was singing songs like "Vision of Love", "I Don't Wanna Cry", "Someday" (worked good with an R&B Crowd), and "Love Takes Time". That album was one of the best debuts from an artist ever, and proabably my favorite album she done. I mean, I like alot of other songs she did, but that first album was pretty hot. The vocals blew me away. IF she was trying to "Act White", she had a strange way of doing that. Sure, she was "Popsy", but it wasn't in a bad way.

Now... The second album had only one song I can think of that I liked at all, and I can tell you nothing on that album worked like the first. "Emotions" was the only one I can remember getting anyone excited about, but it was nothing like before.

Realise that all this stuff happened when she was dating, then married executive Tommy Mottola, who was also guiding her. IF I were to blame anyone for people thinking that about her, I would gaze his way a little more then her way... She was 20 years old, and in my opinion... most 20 year olds are going to be impressionable. Strangely her sound completely changed after they split??

My point is, her carreer wasn't spiralling down, she had no reason to change up. "One Sweet Day" is still the longest running number one single in US chart history. She had her "demons" to overcome, but it wasn't her music. She changed because she wanted to, because she liked it, or because she was finally writing or co-writing, pluss producing alot of her own music. With money, with confidence, comes the ability AND power, to try something different. I'm not saying I'm right, but it's not the first time a singer was led to sing "certain" types of music, over other types of music.

Funny thing is, I'm not that much of a Mariah Carey fan, and prefer listening to most of Beyonce's music over hers... However, I can't deny the Five-Octave vocal range of Mariah.

However, if you want to talk soul and stuff... I'm still going with Mary J. Blige, sorry.

R.I.P. Whitney.

Mary J is tops at what she does I totally agree with you.

The Mariah thing, well it bugs me because I hate her stuff after honey. Mimi is annoying. It's like she's trying to be like Madonna who can't figure out if she's American or Brittish, or Roseanne who can't decide if she has one or five personalities.

Change can be goodman but Mariah changed way WAY to much to quickly.

I'm glad DJ you didn't say you liked Kesha, I'd have puked. :p
