MJStark
Hi folks So, the game has been out for nearly four months now and the CBH forum traffic has slowed right down, the most recent post in this forum was by Adam half a month ago to update the patch and it's looking like there are only four active diaries now, two of them are mine! The mod section still seems to be alive, but not many projects complete as yet and I worry that without much interest many of them wont be... I personally really like this game. Obviously it is the first of its kind so there are a few things that need improving, adding, etc, even Adam acknowledges this, but as an engine for what it does it works nicely. And, obviously, I find it quite inspiring writing wise... So have people fallen out of love with this game already? Or are you just waiting for a few mods to be completed? Are you already looking forward to CBH2? What are your thoughts folks?
jhd1
I really like CBH, and I always have. I think for a first iteration it's excellent, but it's an extremely fun game in its own right. I've been pretty preoccupied with the jhdVerse for the last few months but now its done I'm hoping to get back into CBH. I've even thought about doing a diary of my own, but I've not yet found the who, what, when or why to get it started.
1PWfan
It is a lot of fun, but the problem I've had with it is that my Guardian Angel dynasty kind of ran out of steam- I had everything set up for a particular feud but the villain got taken out by somebody else before we could get locked in. I'm considering relaunching it at some point with a new, less pic-heavy format (as an example, it takes me on average 10-20 minutes to format an issue that last about 3 pages, and my average page-count per issue is twice that). Oh totally, takes me roughly 1-3 hours writing time per issue and easily half that again formatting/creating images. But I'm locked in, my format aint going anywhere I look forward to reading
Guest deathcroc
I'm definitely still in love with the game, I just don't talk much as my post count reveals. :-)
Rathen4
Far, far, far too much clicking for me. I enjoyed it, but it takes so long to cause anything to happen. Even with the hotkeys!
damientheomen3
Speaking of active diaries, what do y'all think of mine?
MJStark
Yeah, its cool, though personally I feel you may have given yourself a bit of a cross to bear writing in the first person, but s'all good. If you want the pictures to show in the diary click the little picture of a mountain in the tools bar, paste in the url of the pic and it'll show up in the diary
damientheomen3
Well I've switched to third person at times, so that door is always open should I need it. Thanks for the tip!
LoNdOn
I have openly admitted to never really being a comic book/comic hero fan. I am sure I would enjoy the game a great deal if I were into that ilk of entertainment, but sadly, I doubt I ever will. I enjoyed rendering characters for the game though and don't doubt if/when a new version came out I would happily do the same.
Unregistered
I have to say I'm dissapointed with the game myself. The real reason I was really intrigued was with the game was it's out of battle stuff, which ended up being incredibly dull. Help the community? One click of the button and it's done. Try and make friends? Guess a number! Oh, thats the wrong one, they hate me now. Form a team! Well, it took me twenty tries to find a person to talk to, and because they are an anti-hero, it turns out that my face is now riddled with bullets. Don't get me wrong, I loved the idea, but I think it's way to much of a number crunch. The only way I see it being fun is if you make a diary out of it, and come up with all the neat stuff (to me) by yourself.. I just don't feel the game is worth it to me. Here's hoping some mods come out soon, because maybe having some RL charicters may add some spice to it for people like myself at least somewhat. I know it's a first itteration, but the orginal Wrespi was much better then this. As was WMMA even if it's easy to see why. I'm sure I'll be blasted for this, but I'm a huge fan of Adam's games, and I bought every single one of his releases. In fact I've bought several copies of both of the last two TEW games. This was just a huge letdown to me, and I hope for anything else then another CBH for the next release.
Cold Cobra
I really enjoy the game, and me and my friend have had great fun creating a big world to play in. It's just there isn't much to come onto this forum to talk about, you know? Trust me, I'll be playing it for years to come, even if it's just adding to our database and having a quick game. No blasting from me, I asked for opinion I do agree that there is not as much depth as with other titles. And getting into a fictional universe that isn't super deep can be difficult. I had much the same problem with TEW back in the day, however there were plenty of real world mods about that interested me. Here's hoping that some more, for want of a better phrase, real life, mods come out soon and that they can respark some interest for you I really enjoy the game, and me and my friend have had great fun creating a big world to play in. mike b
There are alot who play this game MJ i think though the reason for the low activity in forum section is well, there is only so much you can talk about in a comic games forum. Wrestling has it's eras its what if's this happened instead of that. I mean comics has that also but its just not the same as wrestling. I hope you understand the point i am trying to make(i Dont) its just you get more people talking about a comic that is out then people who talk about games. And that is not just here but almost every comic's forum that i have seen. So even though we dont have the same activity as say the TEW section here we still have people playing this game,i know i am:) How are doing by the way MJ i have not been on that much so hope everything is going well with ya. Wrestling Century
The main reason that I wanted to play this game was because I thought that it would be a game similar to WreSpi but revolving around Comic Books. What I mean is, I thought that it would focus completely on the battle/combat system, but it really didn't, so it got dull for me really fast. KingofOldSchool
I would buy it and play this like the other Ryland games, but for some reason it crashes on load up and no one can figure out why.
mjdgoldeneye
My issue is the fact that it seems really based around a whole lot of nothing happening most of the time for the sake of preventing the user from developing too quickly. I don't know, maybe Adam wanted to sync up the sort of "speed" of the game with TEW in that, in TEW, to go from 0 to Global is a very, very long process and sort of made the mistake of thinking that was an appropriate speed for a game revolving around 1 character capable of carrying out about 6 actions... lol I don't mean to come off as jerkish as I think Adam makes some of the best games for the value around, but CBH could have been so much more and it I'm disappointed that I paid for it. Did anyone play test it and think spending half an hour trying to communicate with Bee Girl without really even knowing if it was possible or if/how it would benefit them was fun? I still find myself messing around with it, hoping to be surprised, but it seems very flat and very transparent and, as someone said, very "number crunchy". There's no mystique, nothing to drive for except a higher number in X, Y, or Z for the sake of making it easier to further advance X, Y, Z in the future (which is one of my complaints about MMO's, but at least they're social and have an exploration factor). It's like he wanted to give a D&D sort of vibe with the "rolls" and made the combat system transparent so people would never have to question what a power did or how it worked, but that sort of "open hood" thing makes the game very easily manipulable. Once I got the kinks out and figured out how the system worked, I ended up with a fairly low level character who could ace combat constantly. (It's a bit hard to build for puzzles AND combat initially, but that's not a cleverness factor as much as a "I have this many points" kind of thing.) So... yea... The game comes off more as an experiment in structure rather than function. I like the system for defining powers a LOT (as well as the ATD system) and the new SQL framework makes the game ruin like lightning compared to TEW 2010 (I can't wait for the next TEW game... It feels like I spend half my time between days in 2010...), but it just isn't FUN. It's like an interactive ant farm... Again, this is probably 87% more jerkish than I intend, but I guess I'm a little bitter that I'm out $25... If GDS makes another CBH game, I'll be interested in it. However, it'll have to be a bit of a departure if I'm going to purchase it in the end.
grits207
I still play it a little bit, but nowhere near as much as I play WMMA 3. The biggest disappointment for me so far is the lack of real world mods. I feel the same way about CBH as a did with WMMA 1. It's a good concept with a ton of room for improvement. I'm not bothered by how "number crunchy" it is, after all every text sim I have ever played has basically been disguised number manipulation with a bit of randomness thrown in, I think there just needs to be a lot more to do outside of the combat. LordJaguar
For me it's too shallow. A single comic has as many villians as CBH plus twice as many npcs. Also, it seems every villian is a major one, and there are no one off villians like Calender Man or Metal Master.
Pinke
The game itself is pretty easy once you fall into a routine with your character. I find often I'm pushing the same button over and over again with not much happening. It can be fun though. I'm not sure if it's on Adam's agenda for a sequel, but honestly ... the moral choices and decisions ... I'd like to see those *all* the time. Yes, there's combat improvements like having certain actions work better in certain locations etc etc etc ... but honestly I'd really like to see moral decisions in combat, when I'm resting, when I'm working etc ... IE ... Child runs across street during combat, save for a combat penalty? Person discovers my secret identity, do I kill, threaten, or talk to them? Company asks me for sponsorship? My powers become weaker randomly and I'm told it's because of X (X being thing I have/haven't/should do/done) Two heroes have a falling out, what do I do? I'm framed and police are after me ... I realise this might not be something that would normally be associated with Adam Ryland games, but in this instance I'd like to see a lot more of these type of things with the results being some stats mixed with choices. TalonK
Personally I have fallen out of love with this game, some evenings I think, 'Oh I'll play CBH,' after 5 minutes of pushing the same button and nothing different has happened to MY character, I get fed up and stop playing. I've even tried one of the MODs of Batman characters, it didn't help. In fact it seemed like Gotham was a ghost town, there wasn't even a hint of crime, when I think of the comic books I've read, this is NOTHING like Gotham. Yes I know writers are 'putting' crimes there, but I thought that was partly the idea behind CBH, I was a comic book writer as well as playing out the actions of my main character, writing each episode as I went along. IF there was to be a sequel, I'd have to think whether to invest any money in it. Which is sad, because I like the concept of the game, just not the game itself.... Pampero Firpo
This game definitely didn't hold my interest as long as most of the other GDS games. That said, I still played it quite a bit and certainly feel like I got my money's worth. I also see a ton of potential for improvement. So to summarize: 1. Yes, I've fallen out of love with CBH. 2. But I did play it quite a bit and think it was worth the price. 3. I see lots of potential for future editions and hope Adam makes a sequel. OctoberRaven
It really was a fun game to mod and do a watcher game for (which is actually pretty easy to do if you turn morale off). But the gameplay just becomes very unexciting for me. Fights seem like a complete forgone conclusion 90% of the time, and the other 10% are largely mass combat situations with lower-level characters. The combat system's not nearly as deep as it first seems either. It's a great game to play in short bursts, don't get me wrong... but long term, it just kinda drags. MJStark
So, from what I can gather, depth is the main issue for gameplay and folks aint posting cos there's not much to post about, but that may pick up once more mods are released. This gives me hope for a future release some evenings I think, 'Oh I'll play CBH,' after 5 minutes of pushing the same button and nothing different has happened to MY character, I get fed up and stop playing. I've even tried one of the MODs of Batman characters, it didn't help. In fact it seemed like Gotham was a ghost town, there wasn't even a hint of crime, when I think of the comic books I've read, this is NOTHING like Gotham. The game is set so that things have to get going, nothing is active straight away, so a bit of perserverance is key here. If you're getting frustrated try using the Cheat Code RCL, it shows you all the schemes currently being hatched in your city so you know when to train and when to patrol
