Purple Cowboy Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Don't know if very many others are also fans of Out of the Park Baseball, but if there's ever any interest in putting together a GDS online league please let me know. I'd be happy to try and set one up. I've been in online leagues before but never run one so if anyone with more experience cares to run it or offer tips I'd be happy to just be a team owner and help in other ways.
damonster Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 does one need the game to join a league like this?
Purple Cowboy Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 Yeah I believe so. The commissioner runs a week or two of game time and you download the savedata to your game and make your updates or roster changes, etc. and then upload it back.
GardnerFTW Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I've run a league in the past, but don't have anywhere near enough free time to do so again. Would definitely be interested in playing. It's possibly to play without the game, but honestly is more work for the commish, and in my opinion puts the person without the game at a significant disadvantage as well.
BHK1978 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 PC do you have OOTP13 yet? If so I was wondering how it is. I have a rule that I only buy it every other year and I bought last year's version so I was thinking about not getting it this year. I was wondering if there were huge differences in the newer version.

Seems like 40 bucks is alot to pay for vague "upgrades!" language and added depth to the story lines feature. I am intrigued by the "guys can show up in any year!!" draft feature. makes me want to start in 1908 and see when everyone shows up...just not sure thats worth 40 bucks.
Bigpapa42 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I spent some time with the new version this weekend. Its pretty polished and solid. I didn't play 2012 beyond a run on the demo. Did put quite a bit of time into 2011. I definitely like the overall feel of 2013 much more than 2011 and still quite a bit more than what I saw of 2012. The storylines feature is pretty awesome - saw one running several months regarding Coco Crisp, where an off-field injury ended up leading to relevations that he had a mistress. Quite funny.
HansLanda11 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I'm a baseball mogul man myself but I am told that OOTP is a better, more in-depth game. Now that I have MLB 12: The Show, I don't think i'll be purchasing any PC baseball games this year. Just incase anyone is wondering, The Show is where it's at as far as I'm concerned... although I cannot hit.

I dunno... aside from some UI changes and the fact that catcher rating now factors in "framing pitches" I'm not too sure it's a huge upgrade. The add-on central now is super-easy though and it took about 2 mins to get a MLB game going with pics, logos, stadia, etc.. Haven't really played enough yet to really get a feel for all of the upgrades. I've been waiting about 5 years for the "Keep All Transactions" option to actually work properly. I'll see how that goes after this season is finished!

The storyline thing would probably end up annoying me and that is one of the main reasons why I would not buy it.

And the new stories aren't emphasized or obtrusive - they look the same as all the other new stories you get emailed in-game all the time. I can't really say its worth an upgrade, though. It definitely feels like a better game than 11, but can't say its that much different from 12.
