Personal Attributes

Recommended Posts

Do player attributes (strength, speed, agility, instincts, intelligence, etc.)change over time (based on playing time, matriculation, training). The player development in these areas never shows any changes season-to-season. Is this something that is being looked at for v1.1

Most of the time the athletic skills (accel, speed, agility,...) and personality ratings (aggressiveness, instincts, Intel) stay pretty constant. Strength will obviously change and you may see a few players have athletic skills increase over time.
bump. It's a good question. I have ONE player on my team who's attributes changed this year, and they changed dramatically. I didn't change his position or anything...why did his attributes change but no one else's?
Some players are "boom" or "bust" guys that come in scouted as one way, but actually perform significantly better (or worse) after the first year or two. I'm guessing this was one such player.

While scouting a HS player and seeing feedback on him something like "He's working on becoming more aggressive..." or "He'll someday develop the instincts of a top-notch QB..." I assume that means there will be some increases in these attributes. I love that kind of feedback during scouting, but I'm disappointed to see now that it's useless. So I understand what you're saying, that these ratings will not likely change at all for most players, (and from what I've seen, most = about 99% of them) but don't you agree that this is in conflict with what the scouts are saying?

Once he is in college, these attributes aren't going to change a great deal.
There is some variability for some players, but I think these comments are more geared towards evaluating how his current attributes will translate to college. Once he is in college, these attributes aren't going to change a great deal.
I guess I still don't understand. In my 8 seasons, I've seen only about 2 players ever have any changes in attributes. I have 80 players on my roster right now, not one of them has even a +1 or -1 attribute change. Doesn't seem realistic to say that only 2 guys out of all those seasons have had any increase or decrease in agility, speed, aggressiveness, etc. Perhaps this is the way you've designed it, and it's working the way you want, but it seems to me that changes in attributes would affect a majority of the players to at least a very small degree, and would be quite significant for a few. Also, if the scouting comments are 'geared towards evaluating how his current [High school] attributes will translate to college', then why are the same comments listed on the Player Card under the heading "Potential"? If my junior OT has a comment on his player card like "He should reach a decent level of agility and that should help with several parts of his game", then I'm going to be tempted to give him more training time in Strength and Conditioning in order to achieve that potential. And if the player card says "Doesn't really have an aggressive nature but coaches feel he can improve to a decent level", then I would expect that there would be a good chance of at least a 1 or 2 point increase in his aggressiveness. I just think that making these attributes virtually inflexible is unrealistic. And since your comment (quoted above) suggests that most players potential is reached during their first college training camp, it seems that putting these scouting comments on the player cards is misleading us as to a player's true potential. That said, I love the game, and hope you'll consider the points I've made for the next patch/update/version.
