Question on player positions

With my team getting absolutely pounded with injuries, Ive been trying to come up with a good yet fair way for me to fill in my safety positions. As sort of a personal house rule for most sports games (solo leagues), I only play players at their natural, primary positions (like in OOTP I will not play a SS at 2B even if they are rated there. I will not start them...the CPU may sub them in during a sim, but thats ok. As long as I dont start them there). I have a pretty good backup strong saftey that would be better than any free safeties I have, but with my house rule I dont want to start a SS at FS, however, I notice on the depth chart I can put FS in for SS and vice verca. Is there any penalty to a players ranking by doing this ? Or is a safety a saftey is a safety ? I guess Im asking whether there is a penalty for playing a SS at FS, or maybe an ILB at OLB ?

I wouldn't think so... My most recent recruiting class turned out pretty well after thinking I had a few holes.... I moved a 6'1-290 DE to DT and his rating current and future rating increased. I also moved a 6'2-225 ILB to OLB and his current and future rating increased. Both of these guys were considered athletes and had great speed for their respective positions. I have also been playing what was my starting FS at SS because of injuries and his production as increased. At the same time, I've seen other situations with the oppostie results. It appears to vary from player to player based on attributes and skills. -Kevin

Are you actually changing the player position or are you simply placing them into the different slot on teh depth chart ? Im talking about the depth chart. Is there a penalty to playing a FS at SS via the depth chart (or the other way around), and if not, why are there 2 different "safety" positions and not just one standard "safety" ?

with respect to FS/SS...I simply made the change in the depth chart because that is the only option mid-season. There didn't appear to be any penalty but I base that on the fact that the players performance and my over-all defensive improved. This could be a result of my defensive system...can't say for sure...I use my SS to stuff the run for the most part and use my FS mostly in coverage. -Kevin
